Lidocaine for suturing

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for suturing

lidoderm

Avatar m tn m a general doctor and a few hrs ago I was suturing a deep hand cut. When injecting lidocaine, some of it, probably mixed with the patient's blood drops, spurted and landed on my face (around the mouth I believe) and glasses. I wiped it and then washed everything off, after I came around from the small shock. Do I run a risk of getting an infection?
Avatar n tn The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever. An EKG will verify that because tissue death is reflected in an abnormal ST segment.
Avatar m tn My fiancée is a student health care assistant in a very small island Mauritius. She was suturing a wound on the leg of a patient in his 40s when her hands got pierced with the needle she was using. There was no PEP given to her. The HIV status of the person she was suturing is unknown. Any reason for concern or testing? Any help would be really appreciated.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn Iris cerlage is sutures completely around the pupil if is dilated symmetrically. Suturing is for an irregular section to make it round. Crystalens would allow near vision. This would work better with your other eye which still accommodates. Dr. O.
553516 tn?1255867219 Hi Friend, I was out for surgery myself I do appologise for the lateness in response. A colpohappy is simply the suturing of a vaginal defect such as a herniation or prolapse. It is not really comparable to a hysterectomy. To the very best of my knowledge the terms are in and of themselfs not used together. they are seperate procedures. A colpo. is surely less invasive than a hyster. The exercises your doing are Keagel? Has the possibility of a bladder suspention or sling been prosented to you?
Avatar m tn Now with the sutures put back in - if done properly -the astigmatism can be improved to some degree again, and the sutures can be left in - again as long as they are placed properly. I feel badly for you. Was it the same surgeon who did the original rezoom??? Things can be improved but they require significant skill.
Avatar f tn Can aspercreme with lidocaine be used on a burn caused by a flame if its not blistered
Avatar m tn I am terrified of needles too and I FELT NOTHING.. They used Buffered Lidocaine injection which I did not feel any of.. I must admit, I did put over the counter Lidocaine cream all over my breast about an hour before the procedure. I used this Lidocaine cream on my arm before a tetanus shot that I had to get and was so afraid of and I was screaming for the nurse to WAIT but.. IT WAS ALREADY DONE! Helps a lot so you don't feel pain. Nurse also gave me tips for next time I get an injection.
Avatar n tn Hello, My sister needs extensive dental work i.e. root canals and fillings and crowns. She is a heart patient and we are wondering if Lidocaine, EPI, or any of the 'caines' are safe for dental work in heart patients? We do not want to start an arrythmia attack. Any safe meds? Thanks much.
Avatar f tn Yes, I had hemorrhoid surgery on Friday and would be happy to share this with you in hope that I can help you. I will post a bit more after I see if this post takes.
Avatar m tn It hurts when I cough or sneeze. It also itches and its numb in that area. The bulge is hardly noticeable. It has been this way for a couple months now and everytime I think its going to get better I end up sneezing or coughing and irritating it again. I originally thought the small bulge was a lipoma because I have several of them in different areas on my body. Could I possibly have a hernia and is it dangerous to have one in this area?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed this for genital outbreaks or PHN? My doctor did for PHN. I just tried it for the first time it hurt to apply and doesn't feel the most pleasant now. Has anyone ever used this and what was your experience?
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
Avatar n tn Not to my knowledge, there is nothing that can cause a positive cocaine result.
Avatar n tn HI, Bleeding several years after a hysterectomy can be due to granulation that grows at the site of suturing in the vaginal vault. It can also be due to growths in the vagina like polyps or cancer. Hence an examination with a gynaecologist and Pap smear are necessary to find out the cause of bleeding. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.

383138 tn?1314167773 They wont inject lidocaine into a vein for pain... If they did any dose they give would be negligable for your heart.
Avatar m tn The surgeon was suturing up the patient when his hand slipped and knocked the needle into my hand. I was momentarily looking up when I felt what I think was a blunt object jab into my hand. I am a bit worried about a needlestick, but was too embaressed to bring it up at the time. I'm assuming I would KNOW if I had gotten poked as logically needles are sharp?
Avatar m tn Getting lidocaine for wisdom tooth extraction--felt the needle going in and woke up 45 minutes later in ER. I had had a seizure! Hundreds of shots for teeth over the years, never any such experience. Surgeon swore he found no blood in syringe and couldn't understand why I seized. Swore he did everything right, never heard of lidocaine causing a seizure this way. Apologized profusely. I'm now worried about completing the extraction, which has to be done.
Avatar m tn Hello, You may need to show the split skin to your doctor as if it is deep then it may need suturing. Otherwise in superficial splits, application of topical antibiotics may help. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn They found it to be a large medial meniscus tear. I wore a brace for a long while and things seemed to be looking up, however it is now 5 years later and i don't particularly enjoy wearing my brace but i still have problems with it. Sometimes it will just lock up and i feel like i can't move my leg. What are my treatment options to prevent this from plaguing me forever?
306455 tn?1288862071 I used them for a couple of years for my knee and back and they worked great. But I never thought about the possiblity of addiction and can't find any info if they are.
