Lidocaine for cough

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for cough

Avatar f tn Hi, My pulmonologist has suggested 3cc Nebulized lidocaine 1% for chronic cough. I have Lupus which has cause problems with my lungs. Had open lung biopsy in November diagnosed with Interstitial Lung disease. Dr just started lowering the dosage of prednisone from 60mg I am down to 20. I also take advair and use the nebulizer 3-4 times per day.It appears that I do not respond well to the meds. The cough has become constant and the lidocaine was suggested to help surpress the cough.
Avatar n tn Now I have developed a chronic cough for the last 2 mos. It used to happen only at night when I lay down but now it happens during the day. I spray my throat with chloraseptic as it has lidocaine in it. The last week I woke up with terrible throat pain and swelling in my lymph notes at the sides of my throat. I couldn't talk at all for 2 days and that made it go away. But the cough is still there. I am really getting concerned.
Avatar f tn However, there are other times I start coughing when I'm just sitting there, at my laptop, for example.. I also often cough after I've eaten something that I probably shouldn't be (eg, chocolate, coffee), which normally don't bother me as long as I take my Pariet. I've had the kind of GERD that's silent (I can't tell I have it) except that it caused me to have laryngities for 4 months until we finally figured out I needed to take Pariet both morning & night. That's been well controlled.
Avatar n tn For the past 8 months, I have had a cough that started out as a mild cold. But it hasn't gotten any better. Every single day, from when I wake up to the time I go to bed (if I can get sleep), I am constantly coughing or clearing my throat. The phlegm is usually white, sometimes with a bit of yellow. It is almost always extremely thick and a large amount. Sometimes in the afternoon or night, the phlegm is stringy and chokes me. There are some days that I cough up phlegm about every 5 minutes.
Avatar n tn My 11 yr old was off school for 3 weeks with a croupy cough. That was 2 months ago- now back at school , but still coughing!. We 2 visited A&E, Paeds, ENT and family Dr numerous times - including by ambulance. Prescribed medications as your son was but now on antihistamine. IgE result from blood rest showed 8 times normal level, so allergic to something-no idea what though! Recommended no Sport, even swimming, whilst crour-like cough persists. Review 2 months time.
Avatar n tn Hi Jill, I read with interest your post from February regarding your daughter's chronic cough. How is she doing? Hopefully she is completely healthy now! My 12-yr. old daughter has had a harsh, loud, barking cough for nearly 2 months, and our pediatrician is now suggesting "psychogenic cough." She had a mild runny nose at first, and was treated with two different antibiotics during the first 3 weeks of the cough, then prednisone. No change.
Avatar f tn Funny, during the heigh of WC nothing would stop the cough for me not even the prescription cough meds. I spoke to my dr. last week and it she thought it odd I was still dealing with episodes. They come on maybe once or twice a week. I did have a total 8 week span when I had none, thought it was totally gone. She wants to investigate further when I see her next month for my annual :( I totally get your not going to the dr. yet.
432097 tn?1318552340 The ONLY reason I know this is because everyone in my family is dead and it's from lung cancer, that's why I'm so scared. Thanks for your post, I will look up pertussis and whooping cough and see if any of these symptoms are the same. If you can remember who posted the other post that was like mine, please point me to them. Thanks again.
432097 tn?1318552340 I was hospitalized twice, they did a stomach emptying test which showed normal, two endoscopies, which were normal, a motility test which was normal, and did a PH test, which was normal, but I was in such severe pain that I was given straight lidocaine to drink for the discomfort. They still don't know what the problem was, but at one point, was admitted in critical condition.
1131859 tn?1260255087 We focus more on relieving pain through simple analgesics like Ibuprofen or Tylenol, heat ,minimizing activities that provoke the symptoms, or using cough suppressants. Physical therapy has also been used for musculoskeletal chest pain. Local injections of combined lidocaine (Xylocaine)/corticosteroid into costochondral areas can be, but is rarely used. Costochondritis usually lasts a variable amount of time, from weeks to months, but usually goes away within a year.
891287 tn?1241230967 When we left the hospital today the pediatrician got her into a ENT, went there he did the scope through her sinus and said her trachyea and throat look good. Did a swap for whooping cough and sent us on our way. I called the pediatrician back after the ENT he said he didn't know what else to do, he called in Ipratropium for the nebulizer and said he would refer her to a pulmonologist, she has been like this 6 days and has to go through the weekend.
Avatar n tn Vicoden, Toredal, Aleve/Advil. Use homeopathic pain patch for topical relief. Given Lidocaine patch by mistake- am allergic. Pain constant for 2 weeks now. Ideas?
Avatar n tn For 7 months, I've had a chronic cough in which I often bring up copious amounts of thin, clear, salty tasting mucous. I've often choked on this and ended up throwing up violently. I don't ever sleep an entire night. I've been given inhalants, cough meds, nasal sprays, antibiotics, and a nebulizer with lidocaine. Xray and CT scan have shown nothing. I'm beginning to identify a pattern.

Avatar n tn always apply ice pack for 10-15 minutes on and off for a few hours a day. this will decrease swelling and pain. you both need a chiropractic doctor. this is the undisputed expert in spine care. he/sh will x-ray (while standing) the region. apply ice packs and adjust and decompress the spine. works all the time. pills are not the answer. yes i'm a DC, and see 400 of yas a week and my advice works all the time. even with fractured coccyx.
Avatar n tn Have you tried PRO-BIOTICS yet? It sounds like your daughter's large intestinal bacteria may be unbalanced, and lacking the necessary BENEFICIAL bacteria called PRO-BIOTICS. Antibiotics & meds can destroy the beneficial bacteria. Two types of these good bacteria are ACIDOPHILUS and BIFIDUS. These are sold in health food stores, and can often cure "simple" constipation. I am also wondering if she might have some MALABSORPTION even though they said her intestinal biopsies looked OK.
489867 tn?1209210894 Hi Dear, Coricosteroid injection can be painful. For what specific indication you are taking injections? You can opt for the intra lesional injection which is mixed with lidocaine. Consult your surgeon.

1806721 tn?1510192923 I went to see my doctor on day 5, tested negative for strep. He gave me some lidocaine oral rinse to numb the throat pain so I can get some sleep and some codeine based cough meds. But he said this is viral, I'd have to wait for it to run its course. Problem is with the trip coming up, I cannot afford to wait much longer. I'm also quite anemic. Sometimes I wonder if that's what's prolonging my illness.
Avatar f tn I have been seen and treated time and time again for an ongoing infection- tracheitis. It causesme to cough violently and break capillaries in my stoma and disrupt the lining of my trachea. I also have very yellow and brown discharge that I am coughing out. Last night I was coughing out a large amount of bloody clots. I was on a series of antibiotics for the tracheitis and have finished them two weeks ago, but my mucous had returned to the green, brown and yellow colors.
Avatar n tn I have had similar reactions to lidocaine and other medications for over 15 years. I used to work for a natural doctor who treated this. When she passed away I found a very skilled immunologist who ran a lot of unusual blood tests and found that what regular MD's were telling me were "mental problems" and "anxiety" were in fact very real physical problems with my immune system. Certain blood values were off-the-scale high.
Avatar f tn hello,my name is debbie i have had a trachea for little over a year, and have had 4 surgerys, when they try to take it out they have to do emerecy sugery and put it back because i can not breath with out it.i have one of the best top dr,there is in this field ,very good doctor, but he dont no what is my problem is.i had a big mass on my vocal cord, but they said it was not cancer, but they removed part of my vocal cord on the left side.and the left side is parlized.
Avatar n tn Then they gave me an albuterol breathing treatment and a lidocaine breathing treatment. They send me home with another cough syrup and Biaxin(antibiotic). I started to feel better when I started the Biaxin and thought this was over, but it's been almost a week and a half and I am still on the Biaxin and I am starting to wheeze and cough again. I feel my tubes tightening up. What is going on and why is this happening.??????? I use a vaporizer and I boil a pan of water.
219522 tn?1251764229 I never felt the needle for the biopsy go in - only pressure as they were getting what they needed for the biopsy. Yes, I had to stay still. And you know how that goes. When they tell you not to cough - what do you feel like doing? ;-) I never had to be held down by anyone, though. I was in and out of there in like 15 minutes, and only had to be "stabbed" twice.
Avatar n tn i was confined to the ccu for monitoring and was given premixed lidocaine and metoprolol for my tachycardia...yes, i have tachycardias too.. my pulse is irregular too.. i was discharged yesterday but i still have the palpitations.. what food will i take and avoid.. what activities shuold i avoid.. will it get worse over the years.. by the way im having bad colds and cough, hospital acquired so im taking carbocesteine and vit c.. pls help me.. thank you..
Avatar n tn TIA can lasts few seconds to 24hour. Why a TIA does not lasts for a LESS than a Seconds? I have discussed experts and professor in Neurology. Everyone has said that there is no TIA of less than ONE second.
2177836 tn?1355177477 For you ladies that have had your baby could you please try and give me some answers, I just had my son on the 22nd, he ripped by a 2 but on the inside so I got stitches. I've noticed my girl area has been feeling really sore lately. I feel like its ripped or has a cut. Is it possible for my stitches to fall out?? When I laugh it hurts, when I laugh I feel myself leaking down there, when I cough it hurts.
Avatar f tn Then turned into a cough like I was starting to catch a cold. Finally almost non-stop hard cough so dr thought it best to test for whooping cough (takes 10 days to get result) but started me on erythromycin. That weekend I was in hospital with IV erythromycin and steroids. Lost control of bladder...gulping and swallowing air so then I'm full of air which results in belching and then explosive gas passing when coughing.
Avatar f tn I wasn't in any pain after the surgery and I didn't take any meds. I was up and around the next day. It does hurt to cough or sneeze for a few weeks but other than that, you'll be amazed that you were ever worried.
