Avatar m tn 21 M has episodic severe headache from age 16, the frequency dropped from about 10 per month to once a month by age 18 (allegedly as the sleep became regular and smoking was stopped). You feel the description of your headache is similar to cluster headaches. During headache you have severe irritability on hearing sounds, and you are able to hear the hum of live electric cables. You noticed blood beneath the skin of forehead after one (Or all?) episode of headache.
Avatar n tn t an option for you according to your doctor (the SSRI interaction is actually very rare... although, for some cluster headache patients triptans do not work and anything but a sumitriptan pen tends to be counter-indicated... so, yeah, best to stay away from the triptans for now I guess... and if the SSRI interation ever stops being a problem, only ever use a sumitriptan pen, that's an injection of sumitriptan)...
Avatar f tn It would be extremely rare for a cluster headache to start at exactly the same time your child hit you. There are also so called "facial pain (neuralgia) syndromes" the most well known and common is tic doulereaux (sp?) but again the timing is a stretch.
Avatar m tn Like with severe migraines, over-the-counter medications do absolutely nothing to touch the pain of a cluster headache. Maxalt is not a triptan that works on cluster headaches. The only two triptans that work on cluster headaches are Zomig Nasal Spray and Imitrex Injection. I would suggest asking your doctor for prescriptions for these triptans in order to try, starting with the Zomig Nasal Spray as no one likes to give themselves injections... so, leave the Imitrex Injection for last.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 28. She doesn't have high BP. A recent MRI that was completed showed she had sphenoid sinusitis - deeply involved?? She was finally prescribed antibiotics for the infection, a "headache" pain reliever instead of a narcotic, and steriods to reduce the inflamation. If, after the course of antibiotics has completed she is still experiencing the headache, she is to revisit the neurologist to discuss alternative methods of relief.
Avatar f tn See if you can find a headache specialist in your area (call or write online to Diamond headache clinic and ask for names of MDs in your area they recommend). You can get their newsletter free and it is WONDERFUL.
Avatar f tn s opinion and asking for referrals to local headache centers that focus on cluster headaches may indeed be helpful. Cluster headache usually responds to similar migraine preventative drugs and can often be brought under better control temporarily by steroids or nerve blocks. Many patients also respond to inhaled 100 percent oxygen while others benefit from topical anesthetic applied inside the nose, injected or nasal triptans.
1673424 tn?1304007191 i'm a 23 year old female. I have had an extremely painfull headache for a little over 2months now. Along with this headache i'm having sharp shooting pain through out my entire head, short blackouts and sever dizziness. I also feel somewhat weak , and have not had much of an appetite. I have tried every over the counter medicaton there is. What could this be, and should I go to the E.R.?
Avatar f tn Yes, you can have headaches for years after a stroke. I have had migraines for over 3 years since my stroke which the neurologists seem to think were caused by my stroke. And I have since read many posts from others who have migraines after their strokes. But there are many treatments that the doctors can do. You need to find a headache specialist or at least a neurologist.
Avatar f tn Aside from eye issues and primary headaches ( such as migraine, cluster or tension headaches), other possible causes include caffeine withdrawal, discontinuation of analgesics. In particular, cluster headache begins as a severe, sudden headache and may tend to occur at the same time of day. The headache may also strike while sleeping. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
424634 tn?1277857528 Any suggestions on how to get rid of a persistent headache? I've had this one for 3 days. It's on my right side, at the temple and base of my skull. Two motrin minimizes the pain, but it's still there, lurking, and waiting for the motrin to wear off. I wake up with it and go to sleep with it. I had one once that lasted for about a month or so, and I'm really not in the mood to go throught that again. The pain isn't excruciating (I thank God for my high pain threshold).
Avatar f tn head and preceded by aura (starts with blurred vision). Cluster headache may appear as burning, explosive in nature and tear appears from eyes. Tension headache originates with stress and anxiety disorder. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders by clinically examine you & ordering MRI or CT scan here that may be the main reasons of your headache attacks & other symptoms and can provide you an appropriate treatment.
Avatar n tn Compared with the general population, the first and second degree relatives of the 370 patients with cluster headache had a 14-fold and twofold increase in the risk of having cluster headache after standardisation for sex and age. This increase in familial risk strongly suggests that cluster headache has a genetic cause." Avatar n tn From your post it does seem that you have symptoms typical of cluster headache and not migraine. The degree of pain in cluster headache is much more severe than even migraines. It is a boring pain which is also present behind the eyes and associated with eye redness and runny nose. These are also known as alarm clock headaches as they have a cyclical time for occurrence. I would suggest you to seek a second opinion.
Avatar n tn The pain of a cluster headache peaks in about 5 minutes and may last for an hour. Someone with a cluster headache may get several headaches a day for weeks at a time and usually interrupted by a pain-free period of variable length. No one knows exactly what causes cluster headaches. Some of the attributed causes of cluster headaches may include: some medications, heavy smoking, normal sleep pattern interruption, or problems with the hypothalamus.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you very much for your question. CSF leak or spinal headache usually resolves within few days or week as many of the causes of leak go away on their own after a few days. Complete bed rest or blood patches for several days are usually recommended. Therefore, I do not foresee your continuous headache even after three years is due to CSF leak.
Avatar f tn You should go check for a cluster, because with cluster: 1st the pills work but then they don't anymore.
Avatar n tn t have a headache. I understand that there is a test or treatment involving lidocaine dripped directly on the sphenopalatine nerve. How do I get to the right specialist. More importantly, do my symptoms sound like this syndrome. I plan to explore this more with my doctor which is 12 days away.

Avatar m tn I was wondering what the reason may be for my sharp intense headache. Its is not constant happens every half hour or so and is a quick sharp ache. It goes through the front left of my head where my temples are. I am a teen and haven't experienced this before.
Avatar m tn Preventive medicines work well to reduce the number of headaches during cluster periods. Avatar f tn The pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. These attacks occur every day for weeks to months, then disappear. Alcoholic beverages and excessive smoking may be triggers to this. Also, this type primary headache may be present in ombination with other types like migraine or luster headaches. Check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Prescription medications like ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent may help.
Avatar n tn It certainly can be depending on the difficulty of the extraction and whether there was an infection present at the time of the extraction. It also can be related to the age of the patient and medications she might be taking.
