Lidocaine for catheterization

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine for catheterization

lidoderm

Avatar f tn I have IC and have to self cath to do bladder instills. Pediatric catheters are recommended for us and they have them from 8-12 FR. I prefer a 10fr cath personally. Also using lidocaine on the catheter for insertion helps ease discomfort. Is this an indwelling catheter or a intermittent one?
Avatar n tn I am not new to self cathing. Been a couple of years. Reuse catheters until they fall apart. Originally, got horrendous infections. Last 18 months or so, infections: zero. No boiling. No soap. For me the secret is one word: alcohol. I use generous amounts of hand sanitizer on hands and penis before procedure. Catheters are stored in a bath of 90%+ alcohol. (Higher the percentage, quicker they dry before use by waving around).
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have had a urethral catheter for a year and a suprapubic catheter for about a year. I have had to have the catheters changed every 4 months. I can state that the urethral catheter which is inserted through the penis into the bladder is not pain full. It can be uncofortable but not pain full. The thing that you have to do is to relax and not clamp down once you feel the catheter near the sphyncters. We normally have the reflex to resist things like this.
351404 tn?1299489130 My specialist suspects pulmonary hypertension and has so far given me a VQ scan which has proved negative. I am due for a TOE which I think is an oesophagal tube which can give an echocardiogram of the heart from the back and cross section. I am also due to wear a Novacor monitor (when our NHS can get one!). Will these tests determine once and for all whether I do also have PH?
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar n tn This is a question for your doctor or a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn Should catheterization be administered ONLY by the oncologist or any experienced nurse can do it with no possibility of adding risk to the procedure?
Avatar f tn Can aspercreme with lidocaine be used on a burn caused by a flame if its not blistered
Avatar n tn After identifying the defects a cardiac catheterization helps to study the arterial structure of the heart and to identify the blocks for further therapy. So, your doctor has asked for cardiac catheterization. Please follow up with him. Regards.
Avatar m tn I am terrified of needles too and I FELT NOTHING.. They used Buffered Lidocaine injection which I did not feel any of.. I must admit, I did put over the counter Lidocaine cream all over my breast about an hour before the procedure. I used this Lidocaine cream on my arm before a tetanus shot that I had to get and was so afraid of and I was screaming for the nurse to WAIT but.. IT WAS ALREADY DONE! Helps a lot so you don't feel pain. Nurse also gave me tips for next time I get an injection.
Avatar m tn In my case, the rationale given for a cardiac catheterization is "suspicion" of blockage. At high risk for complications of the procedure itself, being mentally prepared for an invasive procedure is very difficult. Might women who have not had an infarction, but who have undergone cardiac catheterization please relate their experiences.
Avatar m tn An excellent study by Greenwell et al suggests that self-catheterization has no value, at least for anterior strictures,1 and the current authors add doubt about its usefulness for posterior urethral distraction injuries. This suboptimal management scheme remains wildly popular, judging by the referral population seen at our clinic, despite the real doubts as to its efficacy. It is another specter in need of a stake to the heart, in my opinion. Richard A.
Avatar m tn Other tests usually involved in the evaluation include an echocardiogram and/or a cardiac catheterization (only if indicated). The decision on which tests are used for evaluation are based primarily on the clinical presentation of the condition.
Avatar n tn Hello, My sister needs extensive dental work i.e. root canals and fillings and crowns. She is a heart patient and we are wondering if Lidocaine, EPI, or any of the 'caines' are safe for dental work in heart patients? We do not want to start an arrythmia attack. Any safe meds? Thanks much.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed this for genital outbreaks or PHN? My doctor did for PHN. I just tried it for the first time it hurt to apply and doesn't feel the most pleasant now. Has anyone ever used this and what was your experience?
Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Hi Sandy! My doctor also prescribed me the Lidocaine patch for my hip and lower back. (didn't have neck or upper back pain at that time) They only worked for about a day and they also wouldn't stick to my body but I just found out last week that I tore a ligament in my hip so that my be why they didn't work. I hope your dr.can find the right med that helps with your pain!
Avatar f tn My grandfather was operated for bph for which TURP was done and was catheterised for 21 days, now his catheter was removed but he developed urinary retention and catheterised again is there any way his catheter can be removed and he can urinate normally, his age is 81yrs?
Avatar n tn Not to my knowledge, there is nothing that can cause a positive cocaine result.
Avatar m tn Thank you. I will address the issue with my doctor a few weeks before the surgery. Thanks, again.
Avatar f tn My husband had a stress test followed by a heart catheterization and was diagnosed with 2/3 blockage of his LAD artery and also blockage of the cirumflex artery. His doctor said he did not stent because of the size of the blockage and could not do CABG because of the location of the blockage (he said there is nothing to bypass to). His ejection fraction at time of catheterization was 35%. Was put on Coreg 3.125mg bid and lisinopril 2/5mg at night. My question is how should this be treated?
Avatar m tn I really wish I could get some feedback from a medical professional. To be honest, I do not trust our local "for profit" medical community. They seem to order tests and procedures, simply for the sake of making money. This is my life, and I am worried about someone messing around simply for the sake of getting rich off of me, and others like me. I have been at their mercy since being admitted to the hospital. It's "don't question my authority" all along.
