1571533 tn?1322943509 Lidocaine (INN) ( /ˈlaɪdɵkeɪn/), Xylocaine, or lignocaine (former BAN) ( /ˈlɪɡnɵkeɪn/) is a common local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. Lidocaine is used topically to relieve itching, burning and pain from skin inflammations, injected as a dental anesthetic or as a local anesthetic for minor surgery.
Avatar f tn They both can have effects on the heart, adrenalin has an obvious effect and lidocaine is actually an antiarrhythmic drug (class 1b sodium blocker) which may have proarrhythmic effects. The problem is - adrenalin is added to prevent the lidocaine from having systemic effects, the blood vessels are constricted. If you have reactions towards lidocaine, choosing the one without adrenalin would be bad.
383138 tn?1314167773 wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday. I dont know what to do, so any info on the lidocaine and any contraidictions with heart arrhythmias would be helpful. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn Are these antiarrhythmic drugs safe? I want to improve the quality of my life but have not had a lot of direction on how to handle all of this. My anxiety is sky high and wonder if it could be complicating my issues. Also one more thing, I have been waking up two to three hours after going to bed with a feeling of shortness of breath, slight ache in upper left chest, feeling just "uncomfortable" and when I checked my heart rate, it was 54-59.....I take 25 mg atenolol before bed.
Avatar f tn The concurrent use of class IA or class III antiarrhythmic agents with other medications that can prolong the QT interval should preferably be avoided unless benefits are anticipated to outweigh the risks (i.e. you won't find many doctors that will prescribe 2 antiarrhythmic agents together). Caution and clinical monitoring are recommended if these agents are prescribed together, especially to patients with underlying risk factors.
Avatar f tn Many people have abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) that cannot be controlled with lifestyle changes or medications. Some patients cannot or do not wish to take life-long antiarrhythmic medications and other drugs because of side effects that interfere with their quality of life. Other consideration for cardiac ablation does rapid heartbeats that begin in the upper chambers, or atria, of the heart.
Avatar f tn Patients who have benign but strongly symptomatic PVCs often have a difficult choice to make – living with the PVCs and the palpitations they cause, or trying frequently ineffective and often toxic antiarrhythmic drugs. If drug therapy is chosen, then appropriate precautions can reduce (but not eliminate) the risk of irreversibly bad outcomes. You don't indicate if your condition is disruptive!
Avatar f tn However, due to the theoretical or known adverse effects of antiarrhythmic drugs on the fetus, antiarrhythmic drugs are often reserved for the treatment of arrhythmias associated with clinically significant symptoms or hemodynamic compromise. There is minimal information on morbidity associated with SVT in pregnancy but pregnancy with SVT often results in Csection.

640423 tn?1225391519 Often, with atrial fibrilation, one is prescribed a blood thinner to lessen the chances of blood clots, and sometimes an antiarrhythmic is prescribed to lower the frequency of a-fib episodes. You should speak to your doctor to decide the best course of treatment for you based on your specific situation.
967168 tn?1477584489 Some patients cannot or do not wish to take life-long antiarrhythmic medications and other drugs because of side effects that interfere with their quality of life. Most often, cardiac ablation is used to treat rapid heartbeats that begin in the upper chambers, or atria, of the heart. As a group, these are know as supraventricular tachycardias, or SVTs.
Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
Avatar f tn Magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker which may have a mild antiarrhythmic effect. The question is however, if you lack magnesium. I would recommend getting a blood test before spending money on supplements. It could be that you don't need magnesium at all.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
306455 tn?1288862071 lotsatrout...good idea...you ought to get a patent....lidocaine suit...i like that!!! ...My educated guess says it is not addictive!!!...and we know where my educated guesses have gotten me before!!!
Avatar f tn Look at the ingredients on the bottle. Benzocaine is mostly made up of lidocaine -a numbing agent in no way related to cocaine. You are more likely to test positive for THC (pot) from using motrin.
673999 tn?1226935279 The new standard inoffice bladder instillation for IC is Lidocaine instillation with bicarbonate solution. The lidocaine is a local anesthetic and the bicarbonate allows the lidocaine to penetrate the bladder wall to get to the bladder nerves. Lidocaine without the bicarbonate solution has only minimal bladder wall penetration and very short duration of action (minutes to an hour).
Avatar m tn I have read previous posts, but am wondering what medications would cause a false negative 4th gen test. Medication that I am concerned about is lidocaine viscous. My Doctor has told me several times that it would not and that I am conclusive non-reactive. But just checking.
Avatar n tn t have a headache. I understand that there is a test or treatment involving lidocaine dripped directly on the sphenopalatine nerve. How do I get to the right specialist. More importantly, do my symptoms sound like this syndrome. I plan to explore this more with my doctor which is 12 days away.
14051 tn?1238251732 I have had 2 sympathetic blocks in the past, but no real relief. My surgeon gave me Lidocaine injections, on 2 different occasions, in my back, where the rod was on the right side to see if I had infection or the rods were the issue. The Lidocaine was a godsend!!!!
Avatar n tn My first ultra sound FNA was a done by a Radiologist. I felt the 1st stick of lidocaine. I didn't feel the other needle sticks, but felt lots of pressure. The Radiologist seemed to have lots of problems getting the needle into the nodule even though it was ultra sound guided. He poked around in me for about 25 minutes before getting a sample. I was scared to death and could feel the needle inside my throat every time I swallowed. Two days later, I was told the sample was not adequate.
