Avatar n tn There is a Capsaicin cream. It is considered alternative medicine. My friend uses it on a arthritic knees and claims it really works at least for a short periods. Capsaicin (pronounced cap-SAY-sin) is the active ingredient in chili peppers. It's what gives chili peppers their kick. When it is applied to the skin, capsaicin cream has been found to deplete substance P—a neurochemical that transmits pain—which desensitizes a person to pain.
Avatar n tn My doctor gave me a lidocaine patch to numb the pain, but for me it did not work. That does not mean that it did may not work for someone else however. It is commonly used for back pain. Also my neurologist said that one option to consider was capsaicin cream. He warned that it would be very painful at first and maybe make the TN worse before it got better. But that it technically would destroy the peripheral nerves on the surface, thus dulling the pain sensations.
1974283 tn?1425609124 Hello, Vestiulitis is vulvodynia localized to the vulvar region. Treatment consists of topical medications (i.e. cromolyn, lidocaine, estrogen, capsaicin), anti-depressant medication (i.e. amitriptylin, amoxapine, clomipramine, imipramine), cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback, vestibulectomy (surgery), laser surgery and Botox injections. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. This must be very frustrating. You've not found anything skin related? Neurological itch does happen. Here's an article that is very interesting on the subject. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3139924/ This article talks about neurological itch and that often, the place that is itching is not where the abnormality is that is causing the itch. They will need to determine where it is coming from.
Avatar n tn I suffer from a chronic external nose irritation: idiopathic paresthesia?(my) Doc says it's sensitive nerve endings. They tingle/throb constantly at the tip(nasal dorsal nerve?) The area below my lower lip is similarly affected. No neuralgia, ie pain. Swiping yields but temporary relief. It always creeps back. I've tried a plethora of topicals to no avail: OTCs(all) , returns to East Coast manufacturers, and compounded medicine.
Avatar f tn It is now known to be one of the most potent hepatotoxins The study demonstrates that capsaicin partially improved liver damage in the BDL mice and inhibited further progression of the injury. In the second group of CCl4-treated mice, capsaicin prevented livers from injury development but did not reduce the fibrosis when it was already established. These results support the need for further investigation into capsaicin for the treatment and prevention of liver injury and fibrosis.
Avatar f tn Seizure-control drugs like Lyrica and Tegretol also suppress it. Capsaicin cream (Zostrix, no prescription needed) applied to the painful area can bring relief. Lidoderm patches and lidocaine gel, products related to Novocain, offer easing of pain." Avatar f tn Treatment of post herpetic neuralgia are antidepressants, anticonvulsants (such as gabapentin or pregabalin) and topical agents such as lidocaine patches or capsaicin lotion. Opioid analgesics may also be appropriate in many situations. For more information visit http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Is it possible, Capsaicin, as a dietary supplement in pill form (500mg per day), to cause bleeding (in intestine) in someone who has a polyp of 5 cm in the large intestine ; I have been told so, and i want an other opinion thanks
Avatar n tn Do capsaicin and mustard oil make A delta and C fibers inflammed in humans ? if no then how would you explain this article https://jn.physiology.
Avatar n tn Hello, Julia. I'm so sorry to read that you're living in so much agony - especially at such a young age. I've lived with chronic pain for nearly 10 years now. My pain is the result of being hit on my bicycle by cars twice in two months. My docs treated me the same as yours treat you - with medication. "If the meds can't help, then live with it" is their philosophy. The pain drugs did help me until I became addicted to oxycontin.
Avatar f tn A nurse friend gave me a sample of Voltaren gel and it worked great. I asked my surgeon about it and they gave me some samples and a prescription. (It' expensive, around $200 a tube. Now I use a compounded cream prescribed by my PM nurse practitioner. It has about seven different things in it. I know 2 of the ingredients are ketamine and lidocaine but I can't remember the rest. (This also runs around $200.) I find this works a bit better than the Voltaren.
Avatar f tn Acute health effects Capsaicin is a highly irritant material requiring proper protective goggles, respirators, and proper hazardous material handling procedures. Capsaicin takes effect upon skin contact (irritant, sensitizer), eye contact (irritant), ingestion, and inhalation (lung irritant, lung sensitizer). Severe over-exposure to pure capsaicin can result in death; the lethal dose (LD50 in mice) is 47.2 mg/kg.
4619045 tn?1361132610 Alternatively, a pinch of cayenne pepper can be mixed with olive oil or other unscented facial cream and applied to the painful area. Both capsaicin and cayenne pepper may produce hypersensitivity of the skin and the affected nerve. Discontinue use if this occurs. People who bleed easily should avoid using cayenne pepper. Wellness to all of you!
Avatar f tn My dentist gives me my shot and see another patient, by the time he got back to me I was fully numb. and the numbness last for 8 - 12 hours. I am highly allergic to lidocaine it puts me into anaphylactic shock, I have an epipen but sa that I don't have to use that I just make sure everyone is doing their job and I always wear my medic alert bracelet.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have asthma problems after eating foods with Red Chilli peppers in it? I keep meeting more and more asthmatics with this capsaicin allergy and wonder why there is not more information on how certain foods can cause inflammation in lungs. One tenth of a teaspoon of chilli pepper sent me into an anaphylactic asthma attck that nearly killed me. Now that its out of my diet completely I have a 70% reduction in symptoms for the first time in 25 years.
Avatar n tn I know this is a somewhat crazy question--but given that diet seems to be important in managing herpes outbreaks, does anyone know if spicy food (more specifically digesting capsaicin, the chemical that makes food spicy) has either a positive or negative effect on frequency, duration, or pain of outbreaks?
Avatar n tn t put the cream on, and the spot has not disappeared even a little. Is this with me for life? It is very noticable and bothers me. Thank you!
Avatar f tn So I have really bad vaginismus to the point where intercourse can only be done with a lot of lidocaine and with the help of dilators. I am 15 weeks pregnant and concerned about delivery. Will my vaginismus prevent me from vaginal delivery? Is anyone else dealing with or has dealt with this??
Avatar f tn ve had quite a few stellate ganglion blocks and have had some success. They thought the lidocaine infusion might help the other pain I deal with and kill two (or more) birds at the same time so to speak. KittKat23-78, Sorry the infusion didn't help you!! I hadn't heard about having several a few days apart; I'll have to ask about it. Mine is (at least one) being paid for by worker's comp. I'm hopeful but also trying to keep things realistic and in perspective.
Avatar m tn I had a nerve test and MRI test and all came back normal and no nerve damage. Is that could be related to herpes? I had a very pain on my left testicle before and was very sensetive and painful to touch it with pain in the side like lymph nodes with legs pain like burning and like tingle or vibration onthe head of my penis. Any advise!!!

Avatar m tn left pointer finger, at work i stuck a cedar sliver under the nail past the start point of the nail. I attempted to pull it out and it broke off. only 1/4 inch came out so a good 1/2 inch is still in there i can see it thru the nail. I attempted to cut and split the nail with razor blade but once i got part way thru nail it hurt bad. my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed this for genital outbreaks or PHN? My doctor did for PHN. I just tried it for the first time it hurt to apply and doesn't feel the most pleasant now. Has anyone ever used this and what was your experience?
