Levoxyl recall drug

Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl recall drug

synthroid

Avatar f tn I had been on Levoxyl for over 20 years and doing really well. Due to the recall I was forced onto Synthroid in July 2013. My body is not accepting it very well, I have lost 1/2 my hair and continue to have head aches. Is there any idea when Levoxyl will be back on the market?
Avatar n tn Hi, there is anyone else having to deal with this Levoxyl recall? I have had hypothyroidism for 18 years. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I was on levothyroxine 100 for many years and did great. Then something changed, Hashimoto's Dr.s said...Been on Levoxyl 75 for 4 years and have never felt good. Tried Armour, too much t3 for me, I swelled up on Sinthroid. I am ok on Levoxyl I guess but now they had to give me the generic because of the recall.
Avatar n tn Before the 'new' formula for Levoyxl, this med was great for me. Synthroid I could never tolerate from the terrible side effects. I am glad to say that I found normal again with Sandoz Levothyroxine. I have been on it since the recall, and am pleased to find it works great. I do, however, take the 50 mcg in several pills per day because I cannot tolerate dyes. It is lactose free. When I picked up my refill today, I found a 'coupon' from pfizerfor a 30-day free amount of Levoxyl.
168348 tn?1379357075 I saw this in Endrocine Today (4/1/13) The American Thyroid Association has acknowledged a recall of levothyroxine sodium, according to a statement on their website. The drug may not be available until 2014. http://www.healio.
1139187 tn?1355706647 First of all, you cannot confuse Levoxyl with levothyroxine. Levoxyl is a brand name drug. If you are prescribed Levoxyl, you get the same drug from the same company (King Pharmaceuticals) just like you get Synthroid from Abbott Labs every time if you are prescribed Synthroid. If you are prescribed levothyroxine, you get the generic version from whichever manufacturer your pharmacy feels like buying from Note the brand names it the following link: http://www.medicinenet.
Avatar f tn Of course, many things can stress the adrenals and if one has an adrenal issue, that should be addressed prior to a thyroid issue, and yes, thyroid med should be introduced slowly. Of course, excess cortisol can cause weight gain, especially that spare tire around the middle that keeps us afloat in the water. In that case, it's not the thyroid med causing the weight gain; it's the excess cortisol.
Avatar n tn s the backstory. TT 11/14, RAI 1/15. Started on Levoxyl 150, then Tiro, Naturethroid for a long stint and then after feeling skinny yet too hyper, decided to return to Levoxyl 125 and 5 Cytomel 1/16. I've been wanting to see if I can convert T3 alone so I dropped the Cytomel mid-February and raised my Tiro to 137 early March. End of March they raised it to 150 and I've been inquiring with friends when they noticed a drop in my energy.
7074596 tn?1387754708 been taking levoxyl for a few years.Recently my insurance substituted synthroid.Dont feel comfortable with this change.
616450 tn?1228433627 After the RAI I felt great for a few months. When the doctor put me on Levoxyl, after I supposedly went a LITTLE hypo, I started feeling like ****. I have more anxiety, can't sleep and my heart gets pumped up easily. I get out of breath real easy too. I think my heart is affected and I have chest pains. I feel sick and nauseated all the time and have to go lay down even at work, so I'll eventually lose my job if something isn't done.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Levoxyl for 11 years post thyroid cancer surgery and it has been a very good drug for me. With the removal of the drug and not knowing when in 2014 it will come back on market I wanted to see if I could get a compound made to duplicate it as close as possible.
Avatar n tn How is levoxyl for anyone taking it. I am prone to anxiety before my diagnosis is there any advice you can give me.
Avatar f tn I was taking a pill that was not round and believe it worked better, levoxyl (sp?) Are these the same or is one preferred over the other? I have such exhaustion it becomes difficult to do anything.
Avatar f tn OK, I GAINED 15 LBS IN THE PAST THREE MONTHS, I AM CURRENTLY ON LEVOXYL 100 MCG AND BEGAN TAKING TWO 5 MCG CYTOMELS TWICE DAILY YESTERDAY. I GOT BLOOD WORK DONE YESTERDAY AND HERE WE MY RESULTS, OH MY IS MY THE LOW! TSH, 3RD GENERATION: 0.94 T4 FREE, 1.3 T3 TOTAL, 98 LOOKS LIKE I NEED A HIGHER DOSE LEVOXYL? Avatar f tn Is it okay to take levoxyl and iron supplements both together on an empty stomach???
Avatar n tn When you went back on Levoxyl after the recall, were you put back on 75 mcg or 88 mcg, which would have been the same as the levo you were on? Is TSH the only thing that's ever being tested when you have blood work? A TSH of 4.71 indicates hypo, but without Free T3 and Free T4, it's kind of a crap shoot, because TSH isn't a good indicator of thyroid hormones, for most of us.. If you had Free T3 and Free T4 tested, please provide those results with reference ranges, as well.
Avatar n tn I take Levoxyl 50mcg twice a day. I understand this is T4. I am experiencing hair loss and thinning. Could T4/T3 help me? Is Levoxyl the same as Synthroid? Is there really anything that can help hair to grow back? I am an 80 year old woman, in excellent health aside from the loss of T4.
Avatar n tn (Same price at 2 different pharmacies, not sure if that is a negotiated rate or if it is what it would cost if I filled the prescription without any drug coverage). I have Empire BCBS too, but our drug coverage is through Medco.
Avatar f tn I will probably either go back to taking my Nutri Thyroid at an increased dose or try Levoxyl. Has anybody got any experience with this drug or Evotrox Liquid ?? Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. AquarianGlory This discussion is related to Levothyroid and mood swings.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
Avatar f tn I was reading these questions and answers and have found that I have also had a reaction to Levoxyl. I have been on the drug since the end of January when my endo switched me from Synthroid to Levoxyl (125 mcg). For about 3-4 weeks now I have noticed that my blood pressure is higher than normal, 138/78, it used to be 110/70. I get heart palpitations and my chest feels like it is squezing in the front and the back.
Avatar f tn It states on the Levoxyl drug website that: In patients with severe hypothyroidism, the recommended initial levothyroxine sodium dose is 12.5-25 mcg/day with increases of 25 mcg/day every 2-4 weeks, accompanied by clinical and laboratory assessment, until the TSH level is normalized. Does anyone know why? could i be considered "severe hypothyroidism" with TSH of 102 and Free T4 .17? If so, why would my doc want me to start with 88mcg - 100mcg?
Avatar n tn The info sheet that came with the drug does say not to eat for 30-60 minutes. My question is about coffee with NO cream & sugar. Do I have to wait 30-60 minutes to drink that. It is what I crave when I wake up. The food can wait!
Avatar n tn Help I have been on levoxyl (137mcg) for the last month and 1/2. Previous to that Leoxyl 150mcg for 3mo. Been going from dose to dose for last 2 years. I am still tired, cold feet, cold hands, moody, puffy, depressed, just to name a few. Considering Armour?. Is there a possible this could do the trick or should I stay with levoxyl? All my test show "normal" so of course the Dr. is comfortable with what I am on., but I AM NOT NORMAL. Any suggestions?
