Levoxyl iodine

Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl iodine

synthroid

Avatar n tn I've been asked to try a new multi vitamin that has iodine in it and I take levoxyl for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. They told me that it shouldn't affect my medicine but I would like to know for sure. Is there a cut off for how much iodine you can take? Or should I not take it at all?
Avatar n tn s not that unusual to be on higher dosages. As a matter of fact, levoxyl, is iodine based, from what I hear, so they are just making money and calling it a fancy chemical instead of saying go buy over the counter iodine to help your thyroid work normally. i read that out diets from the commercial foods, contain very little iodine at all compared to the typical Asian diet. I'm sold, I'm taking 2 "3 Mg" pills each day now.
Avatar f tn t understand why some people continue to have hair loss on thyroid medicine like levoxyl (T4), but iodine will stop loss all together. Does iodine put more T3 out, therefore increase metabolism? I am also trying to understand the process. I am desparate for some guidance!
Avatar n tn My first question is how were you taking your Cytomel? Were you splitting it and taking it more than once a day? 10 mcg may have been too much for you. Many of our members take as little as 5 mcg per day (split) and that makes all the difference in the world in how they feel. T3 (Cytomel) is approximately 4 times more potent than T4, so 75 Levoxyl and 10 Cytomel is roughly equivalent to 125 Levoxyl...sounds a little high sine you can't tolerate 100 Levoxyl.
Avatar n tn I'm hashi's hypo and take Levoxyl 75mcg. I am wondering if my multivitamin that contains iodine(as sea kelp) at 100% dv OK to take with thyroid pills? I had asked my endo what supplements to stay away from and he mentioned the iron etc. but I noticed on here some say to avoid kelp. Is it ok to still take my multivitamin with my thyroid meds? Could it mess up my levels?
Avatar n tn I have been on thyroid meds for 10 years I heard that taking iodine would fix my thyroid so I got some thyodine and took it a few days and after a few days my skin was on fire and itchy and really bad heart palpitations I did stop the iodine about a month ago but when i take my meds my skin starts itching again and my face feels burnt is this iodine still in my system??
Avatar f tn You should do some research on iodine and Hashi's. Iodine is often contraindicated with Hashi's and can actually exacerbate the autoimmune reaction. You've still been taking your Levoxyl while taking the Iodoral, correct? My endo maintains that it doesn't matter if your TSH is 8.0 or 80.0. If it's 80.0, it just shows your pituitary is working well.
Avatar n tn Another endo started me on Levoxyl 50mcg daily and after 5 months on it, TgAb and TPOAb went down (557 and 73), TSH 1.14, but TSI went up to 180%. I decided to stop the medication because I was having to much heart trouble and was scared. I have a fullness in my throat that doesn't go away and my voice is getting hoarse. Do I have both diseases?? Should I stay with Levoxyl?? Your advice is greatly appreciated!!
Avatar f tn I have had thyroid disease for years, being diagnosed with Graves Disease in 1992, having radioactive iodine in 1997, then becoming hypothyroid ever since. I have been on levoxyl since 1997 and had some surgeries and major episodes happen in my life since 2003, which, in turn, have stressed me out. My tsh level was 58.165 back in June and my primary dr put me on 300mcg of levoxyl but I could only take it for a week as I thought I would jump right out of my skin.
Avatar f tn If the T4 is 0.49 & the TSH is18.451 almost 3 months after a radioactive iodine treatment what does this mean?
Avatar f tn He takes large amounts of iodine, his wife, an even larger dose. I just had to lower my dose in half, because anxiety/panic levels that I could not handle. Yes, my D is always borderline low, magnesium too, ferritin always hovers in the upper 20s.. I'm hesitant about armour too though....I've read a whole lot about it, and know that some women make their hair loss WORSE by starting it. God help me, I can't make it any worse than it is. I'll be in a wig.
Avatar f tn t understand why the Levoxyl caused your thyroid to swell. Iodine is part of all thyroid meds since it is an element in thyroid hormones...I've never heard of anyone having a problem tolerating thyroid meds because of iodine intolerance. The quantities are extremely minute. Some people have problems with allergic reactions or intolerance to the fillers in the different brand names or the generic. You might try a different brand to see if you have the same reaction to it.
Avatar m tn you need iodine and not! hormones! but better use borax and after iodine because iodine remove fluoride as calcium fluoride. so not only fluoride cause constipation, it cause osteoporosis, alkalosis, weight loss, chloride deficiency, ****** up stomach anxiety..... please do not use potassium with iodine together as it congest thyroid. nascent, atomic, colloidal, ammonium or even sodium iodine are way better than lugol's. now my tsh is 1.79! the best! and body temperature is 37.
Avatar f tn I have a very mild hypothyroid problem, but when they treat it with even very small doses of synthroid (50mg) I have a severe reaction (like I've reached a toxic dose). This last time I took 25 one day, 50 the other for 14 days and have now been having a reaction for over 30 days! (My doctor says I metabolize weird.) I can't stay on this merry-go-round any longer, I have to get off. I can't work, can't tend to my child...
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed last summer with thyroid cancer, had my thyroid removed and then had the Radioactive Iodine treatment to get rid of any of the other particles left in my body. I was put on Levoxyl at 125MCGs in the beginning and didnt feel that my energy level had returned to the normal level so my doctor raised me up to 150 mcg's which is what I am currently on. Recently I had a TSH test and my doctor said that my level was at a 21 or a .
555598 tn?1215749084 Today I was told my TSH level is 41. I haven't received my bloodwork, other than this last bit of information. What questions should I ask. Since I had severe symptoms, the endo put me on Levoxyl 112 mcg. That is a very high dose. He did this by calling it in to the pharmacy, and he didn't want to see me in person, although I was trying to get in to his office to be checked. Should I be worried about such a high dose?
185634 tn?1257071139 You talked about taking iodine for the swelling/bloat problem that can come with thyroid replacement meds. Can you please post what to get and how much to take? I'm feeling a bit like the Michelin tire man. :-( Thanks!
Avatar m tn Otherwise, I feel great. I would love to take iodine, selenium, and whatever else I need and be done with it, but in the past, Iodoral has given me cystic acne. I took Iodoral for a brief time because I self-diagnosed my hypothyroid state before getting lab tested. I stopped when my face flared up. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn I believe my thyroid is not giving off anything anymore (Hashimoto's). I was told 20 years ago that one side wasn't giving anything and the other was giving very little. My TSH is normal and my T3 is normal with levoxyl and cytomel. I'm still feeling terrible, weight gain, constipation, body aches which is the worst, very dry skin. Can anything help me? Iodine maybe? I don't know what to do when the medication makes me normal, but I still have all these symptoms.
Avatar f tn Good question! I was diagnosed with hyper and had the worst jaw pain. I took advil for about six weeks and my accupuncturist and doctor said it wasn't thyroid. My dentist told me I had a cracked tooth and I got a crown, but honestly about 2 days before he fixed it- it was much, much better. I am curious what you find out.
Avatar m tn after surgery and on levoxyl now and still having problems. do they finally go away? is there any treatment that is more effective than another? the endocrinologists dont even admit that there is a connection but after donig several searches on pubmed central there have been numerous studies to show there is definitely a connection and that these problems are much harder to treat. thank you.
646105 tn?1223653476 We are currently attempting to wean me off Synthroid and I want to try KELP (iodine) and after a bit introduce L-tyrosine which promotes the production of T3 while the iodine is more T4 related. I am tracking my own blood pressure three times a day and I watch my blood pressure spike about 2-3 hours after taking the Synthroid and go to normal/low by late in the day. I am going off it slowly because going off it too quickly can cause some serious issues with your heart.
Avatar n tn ve been on the correct amount of Levoxyl and Cytomel now for a long time, but I still have ALL the thyroid symptoms. I have horrible constipation(tested and I show slow mobility with a sitz marker test) to the point I had my colon removed, My periods are almost every two weeks(heavy) and last for 7 days with ovarian cysts, totally dry skin to the point I break skin when itching, dry thin hair, body aches that I've been told is fibromyalgia.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Anyone with a hyperthyroid should steer clear of anything that will aggravate it. Kelp (which has iodine) included. If someone is hypo a small amount of iodine will help. If a person has been using iodised salt and eating bread with extra iodine in it, it is unlikely they will need to buy a supplement. Personally I find many of the supplements are not within the FDA guidelines of recommended daily allowances and I would certainly treat them with caution.
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was on 112 mcg of levoxyl for 8 years after my thyroid was ablated with 30 mci (radioactive iodine). I have major spinal problems since 2001 failed surgery from a small herniation that should not have been untouched. I knew nothing about back surgery. Anyway, the surgeon left my spine unstable causing all discs to shift like a stake of plates moving over ready to fall. Second surgery by another Dr. failed, plus he put in rods, cage and screws. I just had my entire spine operated on in May.
727481 tn?1231203771 I was diagnosed with Graves Disease and last March was given radioactive iodine to kill my thyroid. Now I'm Hypothyroid with a TSH level of 3.21. At first I was given 100mcg of Levothyroxin; it made me tremble so they cut it to .88mcg and then switched to Synthroid at .75mcg. Still trembling I was switched to Levoxyl, 50mcg, But I'm still trembling. The doctor feels that it has nothing to do with my Thyroid, but the trembling started with I was given the Levothyroxin.
