Avatar m tn Acella's NP thyroid can be absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) which is an option. I've read Armour and Naturoid both have too much cellulose due to reformulation which binds the desiccated thyroid so it is mentioned you need to chew them or crush them first. You can mix it with honey or syrup. You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting.

Avatar n tn There is a difference in Generic Levothyroxine and Name Brand Like Synthroid, I went from 10mg to 25, 50, 75, and finally 100 mg of Levothyroxine (Generic) At that time I started seeing an Endo, He informed me that when it comes to thyroid meds, Generics are not as consistant as name brand meds, all during this prior period my symptoms were all over the place, they would stop for a few days then reappear and I would feel bad for two days, The Endo put me on a name brand (Synthroid) 100mg, at thi
Avatar f tn Has anyone had good luck on levothyroxine? My mother has taken Synthroid namebrand for twenty years with mostly good luck. She was diagnosed as hypothyroid in her 40s but has never been tested for Hashimoto's, though I'm guessing she has it too since it's genetically inherited... Anyway. Sorry to ramble. Encouragement and suggestions welcome.
Avatar f tn According to the instructions on the insert that comes with the medication, levothyroxine is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, with a glass of water, then don't eat or drink anything for 30-60 minutes. Other medications should be separated from levo by at least an hour or they can interfere with absorption.
617316 tn?1274867515 Hello, Has anyone tried to combine Armour with Levothyroxine? I have been taking Levothyroxine for 2 years and still have many symptoms e.g. extreme tiredness, sore mucsles, brittle nails, dry lips, mouth ulcers etc. My TSH has never been normal ranging from 7.5 to -0.1 but never the dose my doctor wants me to get to which is 0.6. I want to experiment with Armour but my doctor will not prescribe it for me so I have bought it over the internet.

Avatar n tn I have had a thyroid issue for 9 years and I have dealt with Tinnitus on and off throughout. Last night I woke up with major ringing in my left ear and I would say a 25% loss in hearing. I went to the doctor this morning they do believe it may be caused by the Thyroid since I am way off still on my labwork results. Also, I do notice and I don't know if this is part of it but when I drink alcohol I tend to get the ringing that night and last night I had a glass of wine while out.
5054005 tn?1362922551 Thyroid hormones control the metabolic rate (the amount of energy expended while at rest) so when there is too much thyroid hormone this will cause the metabolic rate to speed up - hyperthyroidism. When there is not enough thyroid hormone the metabolic rate slows down - hypothyroidism. The treatment for hypothyroidism is to take thyroid hormones to increase the metabolic rate.
Avatar n tn I am a 36 man and was recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I originally went to the doctor with muscle, joint and general fatigue symptoms. My TSH came back at 4.58 and combined with my fatigue symptoms they decided I have hypothyroidism. The doctor prescribed 25 MCG tabs of levothyroxine (generic) for 60 days and then they’d retest me. Never being sick in my life I am having trouble dealing with the diagnosis. Is 4.58 alone enough to prescribe life long treatment?
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced late/delayed periods with Levothyroxine? My doc prescribed me on 12.5mg a day of levo (I actually have to cut the pill in half). I'd love to hear feedback. Thank you.
Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed with PCOS, and prescribed with Metformin for the same reasons, I feel amazing on it, at first I had a reaction (severe runs) but powered through and it is also what helped me fall pregnant. I am still on it now that I'm pregnant but from my experience, the metformin does not, or rather has not caused exhaustion for me, probably in fact the opposite. I think your doc needs to investigate if the two drugs are counter acting each other.
Avatar m tn t touch, chocloate, cheese, sugar, alcohol. She also seems to be getting worse in the summer with Pollen etc. Is this a common side effect of Thyroid removal and can she do any thing other than avoid these. She is on daily anti alergy tablets.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism on August 12th (TSH 4.53). Started taking levothyroxine 25mcg on August 20th and found out that I conceived a week after I started taking medication. However the most recent blood work done on September 1st showed a rise in TSH. My current readings are: TSH 7.83 normal range 0.34 - 5.60 U/ml FreeT3 3.0 normal range 2.0 - 4.
Avatar n tn It is always a possibility because most T4 meds contain dyes and fillers. Patients react to some brands but not others. Some brands also contain lactose, to which some patients are intolerant. To avoid this type of problem, some of our members have switched to Tirosint, which is a fairly new T4 med. Here is what the manufacturer says about it, "Tirosint is the first and only T4 in liquid gel cap form. This pure formulation consists only of T4, glycerin, gelatin, and water.
Avatar f tn My ultrasound results were: The thyroid is diffusely heterogeneous in echotexture with the right thyroid lobe measuring 4.4 cm in length x 1.5 cm AP x 1.3 cm respectively. No focal lesions are identified. The isthmus is mildly thickened and measures 3mm AP. The thyroid gland is mildly hyperemic. I am really getting no help from the VA. I went to a military doc for help to get this test done. Now they want me to wait for a month to see a doc to go over results. This is nerve racking.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was diagnosed with thyroiditis and after going from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism I was put on 75mg of levothyroxine than my doctor said to only take half a dosage and now I've been off the medication for 6 days I was supposed to be done with treatment but ever since I stopped the medication I've been feeling dizzy again and exhausted my hair is falling out again my hands are shaking I have cold feet and nausea I told my doctor but he says I'm fine I was wondering could
541196 tn?1293552936 t felt well with the levothyroxine and dostinex for weeks. The last 2 days I have felt great with the 1/2 pill amount. Silly question... I had blood drawn this morning for creatinine and cortisol test. My arm at the draw site is swollen and hurts really bad... I have never had that before with blood tests. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn My dog has had hypothyroidism for several years and has been on 0.2 mg of Levothyroxine twice daily ever since. Recently, when they did a check on his T4 they found that it was low and they increased it immediately to 0.4 mg. A week or two later he began to significantly pant and wheeze. Then he decided to give him 150 mg of Theophylline twice daily. Could the thyroid dose change have caused these symptoms or is it a coincidence?
Avatar m tn He became unwell after treatment had finished mainly with struggling for breath dry skin ;sickness; constipation ; loss of appetite . Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Hasimoto's disease, but had absolutely no symptoms. The doctor put me on Levothyroxine, and now after 3 and a half months, I have indigestion approximately 3 times a week, bloated stomach, and balance problems. Why should I take this medication when before I started taking it, I had no symtoms? Can I stop taking this medication? I'm thinking that perhaps I was born with this thyroid problem, and it was not a problem until I started taking the medication.
