I've taken, both, generic levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3), as well, as brand name Synthroid and Cytomel. I did better on on generic levo than I did on Synthyroid...
I've been taking generic liothyronine for over 5 yrs and have done just as well as I did on Cytomel.
I don't think you'll have any difficulty, with generic T3, but if you do, you can always go back to Cytomel.
Hello, I just started taking Liothyronine 5mcg twice daily generic for cytomel on Sunday 8/2, today Monday I feel nauseated and have had a little diareha. Could it just be from the first day of taking it? Does anyone else experience nausea at first and then go away?
I have been on thyroid meds a year now liothyronine sod 100 mcg I'm still tired all the time and I shack off and on feel sick and sometimes I have diarrhea haven't lost any weight I feel like I'm getting worse Dr. tells me it take time for my body to adjust to meds. once I had to go to emergency room and they said it was my tsh is 0.
I had my thyroid removed in Nov due to cancerous nodules and will be having radioactive iodine treatment in Feb. My endocrinologist has recommended that I go off my thyroid medication for 2-3 weeks before the treatment to raise my TSH levels (and I've heard that this makes you feel really lousy!). However, I have heard that an alternative to going off the thyroid medication for raising TSH is to take liothyronine a few days before treatment.
Ive always been on Synthroid, .2 mcg. Last 4 months, changed to Synthroid .075 once a day. Liothyronine 25mcg twice a day!! Actually began to lose weiht! Really thought this was the key, Thank You Jesus! Suddenly started with racing heart beat! Called Dr. He said to cut back to 1 a day on Liothyronine. Here come the weight back and then some, along with head aches, fatigue, hands, feet and legs swelling looking like balloons.

I wanted to see if my symptoms were caused by over medication since my medication was 250 mcg + 25 mcg of liothyronine. I decreased my levothyroxine by 25 mcg every 4 weeks and my liothyronine was kept the same (25 mcg).
Should I increase my levothyroxine by 25 mcg and stop taking liothyronine? It's been a week since I've taken liothyronine, since I ran out but I need to know if I should keep taking it before I spend money.
I have gone to see my endo dr a few times and have had my medication adjusted each time. I had taken 75 mcg of Levothyroxine and 5 mcg of Liothyronine. Because of my last blood results, my liothyronie dosage has been increased to 25mcg. My most current TSH was found at 22.5 and the reference is .450-4.5. My T3 & T4 have been within normal range. I should add that my prolactin level has been extremely high as well 32.7 and the reference states it should be anywhere from 4.5 to 23.3.
I currently take Levothyroxine 88mcg tabs and Liothyronine Sod 5 mcg tabs (The Liothyronine was added when I was very low) in the morning. My current "T" tests are TSH 0.36 (normal range .34-4.82), T4Free 1.43 (normal range 0.8-1.80), and T3Total 94 (normal range 87-167) I have not worked for over a year now, weight gain in the passed 2 years 25 pounds (never ever had weight problems), exhausted (want to sleep all the time) do not sleep well at all.
My doctor wants to lower my Levothyroxine dosage to 25 mcg and keep Liothyronine at the same dosage due to my TSH being so low, but she knows the Liothyronine is making a big difference for me.
Would this be a good move to fix my RT3/FT3? I've been doing better but don't feel "normal" or how I did before my thyroid went out of whack. All other lab numbers were within range except my Ferritin being low-normal at 37.
I finally had a doctor who tested me for Reverse T3, and it came back in the high range. I was put on Liothyronine, 12.5 mg for the first two weeks ........then to 25 mg. I noticed a surge of power for about 3 days, now I'm back to the sluggish ways. I guess I should call and find out if I can go ahead and take the 25 mg.
Is the generic form equal to cytomel? I need to know so I can get the best care that I can possibly receive. I appreciate anyone's advice.
I have been taking Levothyroxine 25mg for almost 2 years. When I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism I didn't have any symptoms, and I have not noticed any change since I am taking Levothyroxine. I did a blood test and my THS, 3rd generation w/reflex to FT4 was 2.46. I am 35 years old. Do you think I could stop taking Levothyroxine and check the levels again in 3 months? or should I reduce the dosage little by little? It is any risk in stop this medication suddenly?

I took pig thyroid for 9 years, but last June 2014 switched to a combo of 125 mcg levothyroxine and 5 mcg of liothyronine daily, because I was allergic to the pig thyroid. Since I stopped taking the pig thyroid I developed depression, and my chronic fatigue has worsened. I read on the NIH web site that T3-only therapy of up to 50 mcg daily has helped alleviate depression and fatigue for Hashimoto's patients. Do you know of anyone in Northern Virginia who would prescribe 50 mcg daily of T3?
I could try to take a higher dose of Synthroid, but my FT4 may already be too high. I could try to take FT3 medication, but I tried Liothyronine (generic form of Cytomel) a few years ago, and that medication caused me all sorts of heart problems.
Over the past few years, I've been tested for Selenium and Vitamin E and Cortisol (for possible problems with T4-T3 conversion).
diagnosed with hypo about 6 yrs ago-at first seemed like my entire body was swollen, seemed better after meds but still had some problems-past yr has been the worst-feet & legs swell and ache and can only walk short time, have been to orthopedic dr, rheumatologists, etc & have had several tests but no results just found new endo two weeks ago put me on 150 mcg levothyroxine & 25 mcg liothyroinie sod half pill twice a day-last tests 5/14/2009 T3 uptake 29 range 22-35, T4 free 1.
If you take the medication daily, you have the bottle that has the name on it, right? If it's levothyroxine, it's a T4 med, if it's liothyronine, it's a T3 med which is almost never prescribed by itself and should never be used for a weight loss supplement.
I remember you from the Weight Loss and Dieting Community. Your fear of weight gain requires counseling.
I take oral iron tablets and space those out about 8 hours from when I take levothyroxine (synthroid) because it can affect absorption. I think it is recommended to space it out at least 4 hours from taking synthroid, I also take liothyronine (cytomel) about 4 hours after synthyroid, so I try to space the iron 4 hours from any thyroid meds.
