Levothyroxine and tinnitus

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine and tinnitus

synthroid

Avatar n tn I got a prescription for an increased dose of levothyroxine and within a month, the tinnitus was pretty much gone and my thyroid hormone levels are in an acceptable range. I still experience tinnitus occasionally....usually when I haven't had enough sleep. After reading the above posts....I wonder if alcohol might be a factor. I occasionally drink a glass of red wine or a mixed drink and perhaps that's enough to trigger it?
3179512 tn?1344461428 This is DIRECTLY linked to consuming a small dosage of Armour thyroid. I was previously on Levothyroxine and Liothyronine and read the hype about Armour, so my Doctor kindly called some in for me. Wow. Never had this reaction on the synthetic stuff. Since I know it is a reaction to the Armour, my question is not what caused the temporary ear-ringing, but why the Armour did so and not the synthetic?
Avatar n tn Hi. I am a 59 yr old male. 1139187 tn?1355706647 Atypical presentations [of hypothyroidism] such as weight loss, hearing impairment, tinnitus, and carpal tunnel syndrome may occur, especially in the elderly." Maybe you're taking too much or too little of the Synthroid? Or maybe another medication is blocking the Synthroid, making your T4 go too low?
Avatar n tn MRI was clear with the exception of something called an arachnoid cyst, which the ENT told me was benign and nothing to worry about. (Hope I can trust that!) My regular doc put me on 50 mg of levothyroxine, and I have to tell you it did not seem to make anything better at all. I've been having achy joints, ALWAYS feel fatigued (more tired when I get up than when I go to bed), no energy, difficulty making decisions and focusing, depressive, and moody.
Avatar f tn m 45 so probably the right age for that variant, and definitely tinnitus (anybody have experience with this when hypo?). In spite of all that, I feel generally well. I am supplementing with iodine, started progesterone cream, and other vitamins too, but taking no meds at all. When retested 8 weeks after quitting levo, and after getting enough education to get what I think are the right diagnostic tests, here are my results: TSH: 10.812 (flag ref range: .340-5.600) Free T3: 3.
Avatar f tn I am stressed all the time and can often feel my heart beating in an unpleasant way and have tinging in my hands and feet- and the tinnitus gets worse as well at night. I jump at any little noise and feel constantly wired and grind my teeth. 2 weeks ago I developed a very unpleasant virus and had headaches as soon as I got up which lasted all day, I was constantly having hot flushes and then shivering attacks - alternately, and swollen glands in my neck.
Avatar f tn 2002) Advancing age may also be accompanied by inner ear damage and tinnitus. Many medications also can cause tinnitus (see list below). Generally this is thought to arise from their effect on the cochlea (inner ear).
Avatar n tn If Zoloft curbs stress and anxiety, and stress aggravates tinnitus, there may be just a cause and effect relationship, and not necessarily a medical relationship between the two. I'm sure other health factors could be involved as well.
Avatar f tn I had a full thryroidectemy in November and have since been taking levothyroxine 1/day. I know that my does is 175 per day..and yet..I swear, I am experiencing the side effects of being hypo. My hair is still falling out, I am exhausted, I am irritable, and MOST of all...I have no sex drive. I need help - I go back to my endo in a month and I need to speak with him about this. I believe my blood work comes back normal, but I don't feel normal. Any help?
Avatar n tn I have been on a 50 mcg dose of levothyroxine for about 4-5 months, after the doc noticed in some blood work that I was on the high end of normal for my thyroid count (sorry, don't have numbers in front of me) ... Almost immediately I noticed a distinct ringing in my ears. I think it's from this whole thyroid thing but my doc dismisses it as coincidental. So ... my question is this: Can i stop taking this pill?
Avatar m tn it sounds like you have tinnitus. I suffer from it and have done for years. here's some more info for you http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn s disease, Otosclerosis, circulatory problems all can lead to tinnitus. The cause of your tinnitus and the associated symptoms are important for determining the correct cause and management of your condition. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn Does Tensor Tympani Muscle have any problem and causes hissing and roaring tinnitus in some cases because of muscle tension. And does it cause pressure fullness, ear pain, jaw pain? If i have problem with my inner ear, why should have pain in jaw? In my case jaw pain happens because of middle ear problems.
Avatar n tn Try valsalva maneuver (take a deep breath and blow while pinching your nostrils shut and closing your mouth). Tinnitus can also be a psychological problem. Hence get a psychiatric assessment too. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn What you PROBABLY have is a bad case of tinnitus. Tinnitus is the ringing you're hearing and it is associated with loss of hearing, depression, and sleep disturbances. The pain is probably caused by hyperacusis, which is another condition that sometimes comes with tinnitus and makes you very sensitive to noise. There is no "cure" for tinnitus, but there are treatments. Eating healthy, exercising, keeping busy, and reducing stress can help.
Avatar n tn i asked as i suffer with tinnitus...and the last few months tho it is always there..it used to be at bed time or when there was quiet around me..so it was more noticeable..but i had a bump in a car about a month ago and since then it is more aggrivated.. i hope you find the answers your looking for and sorry i couldnt of been of more help..
Avatar f tn I worked for a non-profit for 7 years that serviced hard of hearing and deaf persons. Tinnitus was something we dealt with and it was non-reversible. HOWEVER. A number of the conditions we experience on treatment seem to reverse when the drugs stop. As in nygirl's situation, I hope the same for you. What I'm thinking is that it's yet another reason to keep hgb up in reasonable numbers. That's what I'm thinking, anyway.
1930941 tn?1400107522 If you are really desperate, I read an article on the internet written by a person who has researched tinnitus for a LONG time..tried drugs and surgery...and finally came up with a holistic approach and says he/she(?) is cured. There are lots of other testimonies from other tinnitus sufferers on that web site....but of course, when you are selling something....you have to read with a lot of discretion. Just thought you might want to at least have a looksie....
