Hello I also had the norplant but I got rid of it after the 5th year 4 1/2 yrs ago. Right after the Norplant i took the pill for a year so I have been clean for abou 3 yrs and 1/2 and I have not been able to get pregnant don't know why. Dr says I'm fine and DH is fine also. I blame it on the the Norplant though.
ok, here's my situation... i've had my norplant for more than five years.. it was cheduled to be removed in april 2009 but i don't have the money to get it removed...is it possible to be pregnant if the norplant in you arm is expired??
I received a norplant with 6 rods in my left arm in 1992. I had them removed in 1997. The Dr couldn't find the 6th rod so left it in my arm and said it wouldn't hurt anything. I had a mammogram 2 weeks ago and they found a suspicious mass under my left arm and the Dr asked me if I had a port under my arm or if I had swallowed a nickel or if I had ever had gold treatments. I have never had any of these.
Hi I've had the Norplant for 3 years and I'm getting it switched out tomorrow and was wondering how they do that. Do they do an exam on your vagina first? And is the removal basically painless like when they put it in?

1- we were enjoying dry humping. (no intercourse and dry humping with full clothes on)

So my wife is a virgin and we had non penetrative sex and some sperm was left on her vagina and we got worried that she could get pregnant then she took emergency contraceptive (levonorgestrel) 48 hours after. Then after 2 days we did non penetrative sex again and we got worried about pregnancy and she took emergency contraception again. This is emergency contraceptive twice in a week.
I like it the only thing is that I became really emotional and grumpy I loved that I had no periods what so ever but I had took it out two months ago I a mar of were it used to be and it looks ugly.
The best for anyone who is sexually active, unmarried and not trying for a child, is for the female to be on some form of birth control (the pill, the IUD, or Norplant) AND for the male to use condoms. Not one or the other. The pill, IUD, etc. will prevent pregnancy but not disease. Condoms will help greatly to prevent disease (given that they are used properly) but are not considered 100% for preventing pregnancy.
You should do an internet search for the history of Norplant because it's not positive. The history of this device showed such negative side effects that the first generation of the device was taken off the market for being too dangerous. This second generation, which they are marketing under the name Jadelle, is just a reworked version with fewer rods implanted in the arm but potentially the same kinds of side effects.
While I understand that there is always a risk of DVT, depression or stroke when taking contraceptive pills, I was thinking, there are other brand of pills which contains more or less the same hormones ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel. So should I be concerned? I have been on other brand of pills in the past which contained ethinylestradiol and norethisterone and I was fine with it.
This is similar to the Norplant my daughter had. After it's removal, It was at least 4 months before she had any signs of a period.

Since this original post we have visited a doctor and my wife has taken the ECP levonorgestrel. She took the first pill ~32hrs after the event and a second pill about 12hrs later as per doctor's instruction.
We were unable to visit a doctor prior to this late hour due to the holiday season (Chinese New Year) over here resulting in clinics being closed. Unfortunately ECPs are not available as an over the counter drug at pharmacies.
bc has a tendency to disrupt cycles.I was on norplant for 10months and never had periods during that time. which bc were u using specifically?
I can only tell you bad, sorry. I got the implant when it was known as Norplant, but they changed the name after a major class action lawsuit.
I gained 30 pounds in the first month. I had acne (or later described to me as boils) so bad that my entire face was bright red all the time - I had never had more than the occasional pimple before that. They would explode at the slightest brush against any fabric, my hand, etc.

Or is it simply upregulated, and if so what are the consequences of that? I recently switched for alesse which has levonorgestrel. I read this progestin has the worst effect on cholesterol levels. How significant is this effect? And finally, how significant are nutrient depletions wile using the pill? I saw research done on it decades ago, but don't see much research on the topic concerning lower dose pills.
My girlfriend and i had unprotected sex and we bought this pills Levonorgestrel Tablets 0.75mg. She took one pill about an hour after intercourse but she did not take the second one. On the paper it said one pill should be taken 12 hours after taking the first one. Now i am worried can the one pill work?
