Avatar n tn Hello, I have just found this site after searching for help in regard to bleeding after the removal of my mirena 3 days ago, I am 52, & only had it in 1 1/2 years, but was told by my specialsit it could be taken out as my blood test showed I was now post menopausal. With night sweats 5 times a night & feeling flat & tired all the time, I agreed with him, now I am bleeding like I have a period & wondering is this normal, but thanks to your comments I can see this is common.
Avatar f tn In addition, very few women were diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after they had Mirena inserted. They all attributed to the low dose of levonorgestrel contained in Mirena since breast cancer is a hormone-sensitive cancer. However, Mirena's hormone is very low dose and only supposed to affect locally within your uterus. It should not be circulated in your blood, unlike the pills etc. If not in blood, how can Mirena affect your body systematically can cause weight gain, or breast cancer?
Avatar n tn I'm currently on birth control pills (Ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) and i'm overweight so i'm planning on taking Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen. Will Hydroxycut affect the effectiveness of my bcp?
Avatar n tn s swollen blisters on my genitalia. In anycase, I had the Mirena put in about 5 months ago. Initially, I had no side effects besides the almost constant bleeding which I'm told should decrease or possibly go away in the next month or so. Then about 2 months ago, I was very sore "down there". I thought it was just irritation from the constant wetness, so i put A&D ointment on it for moisture protection.
Avatar m tn An hour later, I took the 72-hour emergency contraceptive levonorgestrel, two tablets of 0.75 mg. Is my girlfriend more likely to get pregnant? Sorry, my English is not very good.
Avatar f tn Plan B emergency birth control is a single 1.5 mg tablet of Levonorgestrel. I'm not familiar with the regime you have followed. You are now in the two week wait. Run a home pregnancy test on first morning pee when your period tracker says you are due on. For future reference, pull-out is a poor method of birth control. You should refuse entry without a condom or other method, especially when close to ovulation like that.
Avatar m tn so early monday morning , my boyfriend and i were having sex and our condom broke . i have levonorgestrel at my disposal , but i haven't used it as a regular birth control . we had a similar situation a few months ago , and i used 4 pills of levonorgestrel immediately , & then 4 more in 12 hours following the first dosage , as recommended by a university healthcare website . everything worked out fine , & i felt very mild abdominal pain .
Avatar f tn Fast forward a week and we tried to have sex and I went halfway in but it was very sore for her and we stopped but ever since after that she is bleeding everyday in the morning with light red spotting today was the 6th day though today the spotting was a bit darker and she has pain in her lower abdomen and her legs hurt. What could be the issue? Is it pregnancy? Or is it normal to bleed after your first time if we didn’t do it correctly?
Avatar f tn 2-3 hours after that, he rubbed his penis on my v and when it got wet I immediately wiped and washed it with water. I was only able to take levonorgestrel 24-25 hours after that happened. He told me that he doesn't release anything before and after he ejacs. Are the chances of getting pregnant is low, medium or high?
Avatar f tn I'm also looking into Mirena, i haven't gotten it yet. I have read however that if the string is further down/up, check with your doctor just in case (I'm assuming you got it recently). If it IS slipping you don't want it to slip out/get stuck, in *some* cases this can happen and may need to get surgically removed in extreme cases. Better safe than sorry!
Avatar n tn While I understand that there is always a risk of DVT, depression or stroke when taking contraceptive pills, I was thinking, there are other brand of pills which contains more or less the same hormones ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel. So should I be concerned? I have been on other brand of pills in the past which contained ethinylestradiol and norethisterone and I was fine with it.
Avatar m tn This is the second Mirena that I've had, and it's been in for about 18 months. About 3 months ago I had severe pains and a little bleeding which lasted half a day. The strings have always been very short but I can still feel them poking out by about 2mm (although at some points in the month they disappear). I haven't had periods with either Mirena in place and I haven't had any bleeding since that one occasion three months ago.
Avatar f tn Keep wondering whether having the Mirena out would help, but all of the medical profession tell me no, leave it in. They are fixated on Mirena being a miracle product and seem to push it at every opportunity! Would be good to hear an unbiased view regarding my particular situation. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Since hearing this information (I was not at the consult) I have done my best to research the topic and find no evidence and thus credence to the information that failure of levonorgestrel may result in fetal malformation. I have therefore tried reassuring my wife that the doctor was perhaps wrong. Can you please comment on this?
Avatar f tn I'm 24 and have had the Mirena IUD for just under 2 years. I love it, and have not had any problems with it. ruI was on my period when it was inserted, and it lasted for 10 days. Then a year later I had some light spotting, but that's it for menstruation. About two weeks ago, maybe a little more, I had these weird PMS-like cramps. They were really low and I felt like I was about to start my period any second. Then they disappeared after a day, maybe two.
Avatar f tn I was having normal periods and ovulation as observed with basal temp even with the Mirena in. Last period before having it taken out was 10/6, but my temps had already dropped back down before having my Mirena out, so I started my AF on 10/31. It started out spotty for a day and then VERY heavry with clots and such. Now it is 11/8 and my period is brown. I gather it is just the old stuff. Watching my temps and they have been very steady. I know that this is the week to try.
Avatar f tn There are certain times in a month where it is easier to get pregnant so honestly even though people say there's still that .1% that you can get pregnant still means it need to be when your ovulating. Just make sure he wears a condom and it fits. Next, relax! Breathe!

Avatar n tn I have been researching the cardiovascular effects of birth control and saw that it can raise c-reactive protein levels. How clinically significant is this? I know crp is a measure of inflammation in the body. So is increasing it's level going to actually cause inflammation? Or is it simply upregulated, and if so what are the consequences of that? I recently switched for alesse which has levonorgestrel. I read this progestin has the worst effect on cholesterol levels.
Avatar f tn My girlfriend and i had unprotected sex and we bought this pills Levonorgestrel Tablets 0.75mg. She took one pill about an hour after intercourse but she did not take the second one. On the paper it said one pill should be taken 12 hours after taking the first one. Now i am worried can the one pill work?
Avatar f tn I'm surprised now they are pushing mirena for those women who haven't had children. I just checked the Mirena website and I can't use it. "Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a hormone-releasing system placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy for as long as you want for up to 5 years." It is a hormone IUD. So that's out. So we'll see how long this period lasts. I'm wondering if I have fibroids which are causing the bleeding.
