Common Questions and Answers about Levonorgestrel mirena hair loss

Avatar f tn Sharma please do your research. Levonorgestrel is a cause of hair loss in women. Every single birth control that contains high androgen index progestins can cause hair loss. Stop telling women Plan B and birth control pills don’t cause hair loss. They do. The more doctors that understand this - the less of a problem women will have as they can make an informed choice. Please do your research. A simple search on any big BCP air IUD containing high androgen index progestins will show you this.
Avatar n tn Bleeding after Mirena removal is usually a case of hormonal balance. When you suddenly remove the Mirena– the current source of external hormones– you deprive your body of its daily dose of levonorgestrel (progesterone). This creates a state of hormonal shock, because now there is excess estrogen. It is this excess estrogen that ultimately causes the uncomfortable symptoms in your body after Mirena removal– including heavy, irregular vaginal bleeding and severe cramps.
Avatar n tn I had severe hair loss due to the Mirena. I actually went bald in certain areas. It has been devastating I have always had a beautiful head of hair. It has been a year since I had it removed and although my hair is not falling out anymore the damage is done. I now have stringy thin hair.
Avatar f tn In addition, very few women were diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after they had Mirena inserted. They all attributed to the low dose of levonorgestrel contained in Mirena since breast cancer is a hormone-sensitive cancer. However, Mirena's hormone is very low dose and only supposed to affect locally within your uterus. It should not be circulated in your blood, unlike the pills etc. If not in blood, how can Mirena affect your body systematically can cause weight gain, or breast cancer?
Avatar f tn no weight gain, no hair loss, and no mood swings. I recently begin to experience a foul smell even shortly after taking a bath. I went to my OB/GYN who then told me I had bacteria vaginosis (first time ever), no STD ever. I told my husband and he was like if the Mirena is causing this I need to take it out. The only thing I hate is the foul smell even after sex. I am getting it removed Friday and just getting my tubes tied. We don't want any more kids, during these horrible times anyway.
Avatar f tn The main reason I wanted it out was because I had extreme hair loss from it. The first 6 months after having it removed I looked like a ChiaPet from all the new hair growth. I don't recommend the mirena to anyone. The paragard is the same concept, but hormone free. If an IUD is what you want, talk to your doctor about the paragard.
3053649 tn?1356365017 I then started spotting and that turned into a light period monthly but lasting 2 weeks sometimes. I was experiencing hair loss, acne, mood swings, depression, weight gain. I finally went to doc to have it removed. I explained it all to her and she said mirena wouldnt cause these symptoms with bleeding so she had my thyroid checked as well as sent me for a pelvic ultrasound which I had this morning.
Avatar f tn A little background, I had it in for about 1 yr and during that time experienced, food intolerance (in a bad way), headaches severe, constant bloating and pressure in my stomach, dizziness, hair loss, cystic acne, fatique, ,chills, vomiting during my cycle, daily nausea that progressively got worse as I neared my cycle, Anyways, went to my family doctor and had many tests done (not realizing it was the Mirena causing the problem).
Avatar n tn I sure will keep you guys posted! The reason I had it taken out after 2 years is because I was in constant pain. I was having so many bad side effects like major hair loss, outrageous mood swings, really bad short term memory, couldn't focus to save my life,.... The list goes on & on & my doctor told me it couldn't possibly be the mirena causing it. My response..... "Then explain to me why NONE of this started until AFTER the mirena was placed?????

Avatar f tn I too have had an adverse experience, I had the Mirena for 6yrs. I had increasing symptoms of hair loss, rashes on my face, abdominal pain and swelling, under active liver, swollen pancreas, bloating weight gain, extreme fatigue and mood swings... I have found acupuncture is helping. It's been 2months since I had it out. I've felt elevation of positive moods like joy (unaware I was missing it), hormones are a mess, cold uterous but slowly getting back in balance.

Avatar f tn My symptoms with mirena were hair loss, weight gain, anxiety, tingling in hands, hot flashes, cramps, bloating and I believe I developed high blood pressure from this also. Which could have been caused by the wieght gain. Before mirena I was 105 I have sinced gained 40 pounds putting me at 145 I'm only 5'1. My bra size has gone up 3 sizes.
Avatar f tn I had it. Had major hair loss, depression, loss of Libido and plenty of other issues. When I had it removed, it got stuck and had to be yanked out. Nearly had to have surgery. With in two months of removal, all my symptoms went away.
Avatar f tn i took two that were negative but I've noticed the bottom of my mirena possibly sticking out and I've been having alot more pain and I've had some hair loss and jaundiced hands and feet so I'm starting to think it just needs to come out. Thanks for responding tho!
8722107 tn?1399602652 I had the acne, weight gain, mood swings, hair loss, pelvic pain. Make sure you read all of the side effects before you have it inserted. I am well aware that there are some women that have no side effects, you may be one.
Avatar f tn I've had lower back pain that shoots down my leg since December that my Dr. masked with Tramadol and sent me on my way. It was supposed to be a pinched nerve that would correct itself eventually. Well it didn't and finally now, I decided to go to a chiropracter. He said from the x-rays and my discription, it looks like a cental bulging disc in the last lumbar and mayb the one above it. I may be going for an MRI.

Avatar m tn I have a terrible history of long, heavy periods. I tried everything. Finally got Mirena put in about two years ago. Removed it after 11 months---had a lot of side effects I didn't like (mostly major bloat, hot flashes, daily spotting and uncomfortable sex). Unfortunately, my period has been more horrendous than ever before since the removal of the Mirena. I am now scheduling a NovaSure procedure. But I am 33 and am done having kids....
Avatar f tn ve encountered are weight gain/bloated, loss of sex drive, mood swings, abdominal tenderness, cysts, depression, hair loss, headaches, pain during intercourse, and PREGNANCY! Up until a couple days ago I just wrote off all the other things. I woke up 2 days ago with extreme abdominal pain. I went to the ER and give a urine sample. The nurse tells me im pregnant. (I cant tell you how shocked I was, that was the last thing on my mind!
Avatar n tn s swollen blisters on my genitalia. In anycase, I had the Mirena put in about 5 months ago. Initially, I had no side effects besides the almost constant bleeding which I'm told should decrease or possibly go away in the next month or so. Then about 2 months ago, I was very sore "down there". I thought it was just irritation from the constant wetness, so i put A&D ointment on it for moisture protection.
Avatar f tn Well, I am proud to say I had the mirena removed 8 days ago and INSTANTLY felt a difference. I was afraid of the mirena crash that I read about but so far I've felt great. I had some slight bleeding after removal but nothing a few panty liners couldn't handle.
