Common Questions and Answers about Levemir weight loss

levemir

Avatar m tn m pretty sure she was taking tablets, so I suspect you would no chance of complete success with her approach towards not needing to take meds (but, you might or might not find with weight loss that not only would you gain assorted health benefits, but, would perhaps find that a less expensive diabetes 2 med would suffice). I'm certainly no expert on this topic, but that's a question to ask of your doctor (or possibly your pharmacist), next time you're chatting with one.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar f tn He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar f tn I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn Dear Danielle, As you may know, we are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We are alsmo most versed in Type 1 diabetes, based on our personal experiences. Be sure to check out whatever you read here or elsewhere on the Internet with a physician who knows your husband's particulars. My first suggestion is that you be sure to work with an Endocrinologist and not a 'GP' for treatment of diabetes. An endocrinologist is a specialist who treats this type of disease.
Avatar n tn It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
1353681 tn?1387083733 Hi, I have not used lantus, but I do use levemir. Both are medium acting basal insulins. Levemir works best injected twice a day. I inject just before going to bed (22 units), and when I wake up in the morning (8 units). As you can see, I don't use the same dose morning and evening, as I find I need more basal insulin at night when I am inactive, than during the day when I am active. You will need to adjust your dosage based on your target blood sugar levels.
529799 tn?1226797209 It's been really hard for me to reach out like this after so long of hiding my little problem and taking advice from people who have no idea what complications type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent) has with weight loss. I've been through the fads, even tried the shakes which was the worst idea and didn't last long. Worked out religiously and condemned any 'junk' food to hell, well i still do.
Avatar n tn Some people do think that Lantus insulin causes some patients to gain weight, while the new Levemir insulin apparently does not do this. I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking!
Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
Avatar n tn )(Wait one more thing, does she also have hair loss? Because I do (nothing noticeable by looking at me, its just everywhere though. I think its from the lantus maybe, or novolog.) E-Mail me if you get some free time, suzmarie1872yahoo.com Thank you- Suzanne , best of luck.
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. To be upfront, I've never taken weight loss pills, no one in my family has, so I have no knowledge about them and am usually skeptical about their claims. With any such pill, though, I wouldn't do anything without first checking with my doctor (both personal and endo) about the effects. I did a search for info on cylaris, and the weight loss predictions sound like marketing hype.
Avatar m tn fast weight loss is most of the time lost water and muscles. Fat takes ages to go away. Third: Think of a diet as something permanent. Crash diets just help you gain weight faster once they are over. So, pick some simple rules of a balanced and healthy diet, and follow them. Don't sweat it if you crave for something "bad", to a balanced diet belongs the bad side, too. If you give in now to a small piece of chocolate, it is much better than to eat two whole packages later.
Avatar f tn Yes please talk to your dr, there are many things that could cause rapid or excessive weight loss and some of them can be serious. In addition to Thyroid and GI testing maybe ask about diabetes. It seems odd, but it can cause weight loss.
Avatar f tn I promise you your completely fine. I'm 19 weeks haven't gained any weight. Lost weight and the baby is perfect. It didn't matter how tall or how much you weight as long as baby measures up during ultrasound it's perfectly fine.
