Common Questions and Answers about Levemir and weight

levemir

Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar f tn He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar f tn Thanks for all your advices and recomendations. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he told I must use levemir and novorapid and check my BS several times during the day. As the time passes the diabetes is getting more difficult, its what he also told me. I live in Peru, here there's not enough aid and information on using insulin for the diabetics people.
Avatar n tn You wife needs both the long acting insulin (Levemir) to be taken twice a day, and she will also need a fast acting insulin (such as novalog, Humalog or aphidra) to be taken just before eating so that it can 'cover' the food she eats (and with dose adjusted based on how much carbs and protein she eats).
Avatar n tn I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking! Park your car further from the door, take stairs instead of elevators, etc. Or use your lunch hour to do some mild exercise right in your office.
Avatar n tn To night I will keep bed time sugar 10(as standard comparator for morning sugar) and take 26 unit Levemir and no bed time snack. I will see how much it goes down in the morning.
Avatar n tn I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it. I test my blood sugar every morning (fasting) and before bed.
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
776302 tn?1241091853 By drinking two shakes to substitute two meals they lose weight fast, like 10 lbs in one month. I am hypothyroid and diabetic and finding it hard to lose even 3 lbs. I fluctuate back and forth. Please let me know if any of you have tried Herbalife.
529799 tn?1226797209 But I am still only taking minuscule amounts of insulin, 2 units breakfast and lunch, 3 at dinner and 9 units of levemir. I am also taking 50micro gms of Eutroxsig. I eat healthy, there is no doubt that I take care of myself. I am scared s***less to think of ending up in the ambulance again. I have tried cutting down on my carbs. I have not injected in that area for 3months now. I have done 250-300 sit ups a day. I still run 3 kilometres 2-3 times a week .
Avatar f tn I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
1340011 tn?1276617767 The standard is a basal insulin such as Lantus or Levemir and a bolus such as Novolog, Humalog or Apidra. You might want to work with an endo. Sounds like your other problems are complicating your diabetes, hang in there!
Avatar n tn I have diabetic complications. Metformin and Diamicron harmed me while I was skipping the meals. Some times my whole body burns, specially when blood sugar started to increase or decrease quickly. I have adrenaline weakness. I have intense anxiety, because of complication. Alwayes feel bad. Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
Avatar m tn I've been taking Victoza since May 2011 and i've been experiencing shorthness of breath since Nov. 2011, I've had several tests for angina and my lungs and everything are ok. I was wondering if it could be the Victoza that is causing the shorthness of breath. I have diabetes type II and I'm taking Metformin as well as insulin. The Victoza has done wonders, it helps me have a better control and I have lowered my intake of insulin. Can someone help me?
Avatar f tn m assuming she is Type 2 as that is the forum you are posting to? It would depend on her degree of insulin resistance, her weight and other factors. Is she newly diagnosed? Didn't her doctor give her a starting dose? Is she on a basal/bolus regimen or just on the basal (Lantus). You say she is having trouble adjusting doses. What was she on before and what were the results?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes for the last 4 years. I thought I was doing a reasonable job controlling my diabetes with my 3 month average around 7.1. About a month ago, my doctor changed my long acting insulin from Novolin NPH to Lantus. This completely threw me off and I ended up being woken up by paramedics 3 times in 1 week. My blood sugar would be normal before bed and then by morning it had gone to 1.8.
Avatar m tn I am taking 13 unit humalog for each meal and 23 unit Levemir at at bed time. But I am having shortness of breath some times after taking insulin, or walking.
Avatar n tn If you really cannot tolerate it, you may ask your Dr about alternative long acting insulins such as Levemir (injected twice a day) and Tresiba (injected once a day), which may be alternatives to Lantus.
