I have trouble with levemir. I have been diabetic fro 12 years but found out his information about insulins. You need to know the onset and peak times. The article i read is Levemir onset is 3-4 hour after initial injection and then peaks at 6-8 hours after injection. I do not see a 24 hours effect when taking Levemir.
I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.

As you may know, we are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We are alsmo most versed in Type 1 diabetes, based on our personal experiences. Be sure to check out whatever you read here or elsewhere on the Internet with a physician who knows your husband's particulars.
My first suggestion is that you be sure to work with an Endocrinologist and not a 'GP' for treatment of diabetes. An endocrinologist is a specialist who treats this type of disease.
t giving him any the lantus people wants me on toujeo cause their patent was coming up so they stopped sampling it!!!! He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!

I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
Honestly dont be nervous. Gestational diabetes is pretty common. Just watch the amount of carbohydrates in your meals. Keep them low usually under a total of 60g for breakfast and dinner and under 45g for lunch. Keep snacks to no carbs at all. Cheeses are great. Cut the soda and sugary food back and you should do just fine. Im a type 1 diabetic for 13 years. Talk to your doc about it. Its not that bad when its just the gestational diabetes.
The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart.

Yes, diabetes that develops during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes requires close monitoring throughout your pregnancy. Typically, once you deliver, the diabetes resolves. However, immediately after delivery your doctor will monitor your blood sugars and your baby's blood sugar. Good luck.
I have Gestational diabetes as well I have had it since 26 weeks I'm now 30 weeks in the beginning I had to see a dietitian and have to test test myself 4 times a day for my glucose levels I was doing really well for a while I lost weight but now baby is getting bigger and hard for me to control my sugar I've done everything I can and doc said they will start me on insulin next week just once a day but wish you all the best if you have a question let me know the biggest risk is the baby
Gestational diabetes is a fairly common precursor for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. So yes, please treat gestational diabetes as an advance warning. This means attention to diet (lower carb is usually helpful), weight, activity, and the need for regular monitoring (hba1c testing every 6 - 12 months is a great idea). Be aware of diabetes symptoms and if in doubt test.
Some people do think that Lantus insulin causes some patients to gain weight, while the new Levemir insulin apparently does not do this. I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor.
However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking!
I do not have diabetes but everytime i am pregnant i get gestational diabetes. I would think your dr would be working w/ you to make sure that you have controlled diabetes as i am sure there are still things you will want to be informed about being pregnant w/ diabetes.
That sounds more like anemia than diabetes, I have gestational diabetes for the second time and I've never experienced that.
