Common Questions and Answers about Levemir and traveling

levemir

Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar f tn Thanks for all your advices and recomendations. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he told I must use levemir and novorapid and check my BS several times during the day. As the time passes the diabetes is getting more difficult, its what he also told me. I live in Peru, here there's not enough aid and information on using insulin for the diabetics people.
Avatar n tn You wife needs both the long acting insulin (Levemir) to be taken twice a day, and she will also need a fast acting insulin (such as novalog, Humalog or aphidra) to be taken just before eating so that it can 'cover' the food she eats (and with dose adjusted based on how much carbs and protein she eats).
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn To night I will keep bed time sugar 10(as standard comparator for morning sugar) and take 26 unit Levemir and no bed time snack. I will see how much it goes down in the morning.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar n tn Pharmacologic dosages of chromium (200 mcg/day or more for adults) may potentiate the hypoglycemic effect of insulin and oral antidiabetic agents. Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels.
Avatar f tn He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking! Park your car further from the door, take stairs instead of elevators, etc. Or use your lunch hour to do some mild exercise right in your office.
Avatar f tn I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
Avatar n tn I have diabetic complications. Metformin and Diamicron harmed me while I was skipping the meals. Some times my whole body burns, specially when blood sugar started to increase or decrease quickly. I have adrenaline weakness. I have intense anxiety, because of complication. Alwayes feel bad. 369912 tn?1229650090 Is anyone else traveling while ttc'ing? My work has me traveling quite a bit of late and I can't ttc. I know it should be fine and that I should look at it as a month's break or time to relax. But it's so depressing and frustrating. I've known that I wouldn't be able to ttc right now for months. But I guess I've been in denial. I thought that I would maybe, possibly, have my bfp by now. But, of course, my first day away from home ~ AF greets me.
5739386 tn?1378836460 I'm 11 weeks and traveling to Japan and in two weeks to Australia...
Avatar f tn I'd personally talk to my Dr first but I think as long as you aren't having contractions or showing signs of labor, as long as you take a couple of breaks along the trip, you don't stay for too too long and as long as you take it easy I would think it'd be OK. But talk to your Dr to be sure! My Granny lives about 2.5 hrs and I wanna visit her so bad :( I haven't seen her in a year and before that it had been 6 yrs.
519661 tn?1264516208 Hello, ladies!! Hey, I had a quick question....dh just found out he has a class reunion at the very end of July. I am due 3 wks. from the reunion date and he really wants to go. the trip would be about 1,000 miles. we are arguing because i have told him it's too close to my due date to be traveling that far, but that he was more than welcome to go, just without me....he is throwing a fit and does not think it's a big deal for me to be traveling, etc. what do you guys think?!?
551885 tn?1300383822 My husband plays semi-professional hockey so we were always driving hours and hours and I was fine. However since this Wedding is 3 weeks before your due date I wouldn't recommend going. Right around 36/37 weeks was my worst week! It was when my son decided to rest right on my sciatic nerve! I could barely walk, sit, stand without being in pain! Nevermind sit in a car for hours.
Avatar f tn I think it cause ur a way from ur Dr. And they don't want u yo sit for to long because of blood clots.
Avatar f tn Ohh and that neck traveling pillow!!!
5807499 tn?1383275275 we discussed stopping at every state welcome center, packing a cooler of drinks and snacks for me, along with stopping for gas and foo, and hotel when I get too tired. Do you have any suggestions to make this separate car trip to Louisiana a little easier? By the time we leave Virginia, I'll be beginning my second trimester.
Avatar f tn Make sure to stop every 2-3 hrs to walk around and stretch. and go look restrooms immediately if you need to pee. Don't try to hold it. Because holding your pee for a long time could cause an UTI. Also always have water or juice handy and keep hydrated.
