Common Questions and Answers about Levemir and pediatrics

levemir

Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn m on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar f tn Thanks for all your advices and recomendations. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he told I must use levemir and novorapid and check my BS several times during the day. As the time passes the diabetes is getting more difficult, its what he also told me. I live in Peru, here there's not enough aid and information on using insulin for the diabetics people.
Avatar n tn You wife needs both the long acting insulin (Levemir) to be taken twice a day, and she will also need a fast acting insulin (such as novalog, Humalog or aphidra) to be taken just before eating so that it can 'cover' the food she eats (and with dose adjusted based on how much carbs and protein she eats).
Avatar n tn Go and take him to be checked out by your Doctor for reasurrance especially as you have some knowledge.
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Avatar n tn To night I will keep bed time sugar 10(as standard comparator for morning sugar) and take 26 unit Levemir and no bed time snack. I will see how much it goes down in the morning.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar f tn He is 4 years old and the dent has not gone away. It’s noticeable at the right angle and in the sunlight. His pediatrician says nothing about it. He’s a healthy boy with no issues medically. Just concerned the dent won’t ever go away and what should I do?
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar n tn Pharmacologic dosages of chromium (200 mcg/day or more for adults) may potentiate the hypoglycemic effect of insulin and oral antidiabetic agents. Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels.
Avatar f tn He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn 9 year old w massive stomach pain above his bellybutton, low grade fever, headaches, dizziness, extreme tiredness. have had bloodwork done X-rays and catscans and everything comes back normal this has been going on for a week now. in the last two days he has slept 30 hours and has trouble staying awake what could be the problem?
Avatar n tn I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking! Park your car further from the door, take stairs instead of elevators, etc. Or use your lunch hour to do some mild exercise right in your office.

Avatar f tn I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?

Avatar f tn I have had 3 boys and it was not covered for any of them. Even with some private insurances it is not. Luckily my ob told me as soon as we found out they were boys and we just saved a little here and there to cover the cost.
Avatar f tn lol Just a few weeks ago when I took my son to the doctor, his doc.( Dana Ankney, Forest Park Pediatrics) told me that it was okay to feed him eggs and he was barely six months. As long as the eggs are cooked and you're feeding him so he doesn't choke, he's fine.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Victoza since May 2011 and i've been experiencing shorthness of breath since Nov. 2011, I've had several tests for angina and my lungs and everything are ok. I was wondering if it could be the Victoza that is causing the shorthness of breath. I have diabetes type II and I'm taking Metformin as well as insulin. The Victoza has done wonders, it helps me have a better control and I have lowered my intake of insulin. Can someone help me?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes for the last 4 years. I thought I was doing a reasonable job controlling my diabetes with my 3 month average around 7.1. About a month ago, my doctor changed my long acting insulin from Novolin NPH to Lantus. This completely threw me off and I ended up being woken up by paramedics 3 times in 1 week. My blood sugar would be normal before bed and then by morning it had gone to 1.8.
