I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Thanks for all your advices and recomendations. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he told I must use levemir and novorapid and check my BS several times during the day. As the time passes the diabetes is getting more difficult, its what he also told me. I live in Peru, here there's not enough aid and information on using insulin for the diabetics people.
You wife needs both the long acting insulin (Levemir) to be taken twice a day, and she will also need a fast acting insulin (such as novalog, Humalog or aphidra) to be taken just before eating so that it can 'cover' the food she eats (and with dose adjusted based on how much carbs and protein she eats).
I also read some information about insulin injections/side effects on MedicineNet.com and I expect their information is similar to what is on the package insert for your particular type of insulin. Do read the particulars of potential side effects for your specific insulins.

I do have the insert at home. It said if there were NO lines it was inconclusive, but nothing about a line in the circle and nothing in the oval. The way it reads, for it to be positive, there should be a line in each opening. I will be taking another one tonight, hoping it is more conclusive. thanx!
The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart.

When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
Hi there. When you say you have read this, do you mean on the package insert? That's a good source of information (the material that came with your packs of pills). The main issue is protection from pregnancy. So, I'd use back up protection such as condoms for the next few weeks if sexually active if you don't follow the package instructions.
Hello! Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. First, it's always best to talk to your own doctor at your next visit about this. Prep H is generally considered an 'as needed' medication verses one taken as a regular regimen. It's considered safe by clinicians. Package insert recommends using only for 7 days to see if they heal but many use Prep H long term. Perhaps not daily as preventative but whenever they feel discomfort. Talk to your doctor.
Your chances are slim to none of being pregnant. Taking plan will cause disruptions in your cycle, it says skin the package insert. Taking it on top of all the other meds you're taking will surely disrupt your cycle even more. I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd be more concerned that the plan B messed with your thyroid levels or caused some issue with the effectiveness of your PCOS meds because that is much more likely.
