Levaquin tendon pain

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin tendon pain

levaquin

Avatar m tn Hi and Welcome t o our Pain Management Forum. Levaquin is an excellant ATB (Antibiotic). However like many medications it comes with some risks and side effects. Form a trusted Web-site: "Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" .....
Avatar n tn I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar n tn 1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle. And possibly feeling it in my right shoulder and right hip (but not sure if this is part of the Levaquin). This is awful!
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
1994720 tn?1352742233 Also, since the surgery and a sepsis infection that nearly took my life, I get severe nerve, tendon, and joint pain after eating primarily proteins and am exhausted all the time. I am sick of always being the mystery diagnosis patient! Also, my iron and ferritin levels have been on the low end, though I take Slow FE and cook with an iron skillet. And, my Alpha 2 and Beta globulins are low now. Any feedback???
Avatar m tn I am suffering from debilitating tendon pain in many joints. I am inclined to accredit this as a side effect of Levaquin, but none of the doctors I've seen have agreed with this, though they also have not offered any other explanation. Please find my story below: I am a 25 year old male. I have been an avid weight lifter for about 5 years, and a regular rock climber for about 1 year.
Avatar f tn I was on levofloxacin (Levaquin) for my Bart, and I had to stop after six weeks when I developed pain in my left achilles heel. I was disappointed as my anxiety pretty much disappeared on it. Levaquin is known to cause tendon rupture, especially in the achilles tendons, even weeks or months after a person stops taking the drug.
Avatar n tn after taking Levaquin 500 mg for 2 days I had a sudden onset of stiffness at inner rt thigh. after 1 hr could not put any weight on rt leg. numb spots bilateral calves. I stopped Levaquin and contacted my dr. who changed the antibiotic and told me to take motrin for the inflammation and explained that tendon rupture was rare on Levaquin. This is day 4 I'm walking with a slight limp due to stiffness inner thigh and weight bearing.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Well, the 3rd day I got a horrific stabbing pain on the sides of my foot, where the heel connects to the arch. My LLMD said this was Levaquin tendon pain, so no more Levaquin for me. I worked well on the UTI. If I do need to go back on abx for Bart, I presume it will be Rifampin. There are other intra-cellular meds that can be used, although they're not as effective.
798555 tn?1292787551 so had cipro and levaquin in the past, lost 1 tenon in each shoulder due to rupture, have joint and tendon pain when tsking certain antibiotics, recently amox clav, guess you can be sensitive to My penicillin too.all drs look at me like im crazy when i tell them im. not tolerating an rx,huh? anyway,i usually feel better about later in day 1 or 2 then by day three its excruciating bordering on unbearable, what to do?
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar n tn Good to see his symptoms improving. It could a side effect of levaquin, as this can cause swelling and pain in the joints, this is more so if he is prone for joint/tendon problems such as tendonitis and bursitis. It should resolve once the medication is stopped. Discuss these symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I took the antibiotic Cipro (which causes tendon pain and ruptures) and now have a bunch of problems with both ankles. I have achilles tendon pain, and I also have pain and swelling on the inside of my ankle and arch of foot. It hurts to move my toes back, and I can't stand on my toes at all (can't even get off the ground). I also have no balance and sway. If I walk one foot in front of the other (like a drunk driving test), I fall.
Avatar n tn I've heard you can have this with fluoroquinolines like levaquin in rare cases- I'm taking levaquin now and seem ok but it seems these drugs can cause tendon ruptures
4451049 tn?1387153437 "Levaquin and Cipro left you with pain, as in it didn't stop when you quit the medication?" Oh, yes! there are many people who report that--- a lot of class action suits with that mentioned. When I started Cipro I almost immediately started feeling pain where I'd never felt it before in my body---- and NOT in the Achilles, as doctors are fond of warning you about! Hard to describe, but as if every tendon in my body started hurting except the Achilles!.
Avatar m tn For about a year I have had diffuse, symmetrical tendon pain. The pain is mainly in my elbows (both Lateral and medial epicondylitis) and the back of my knees. But it also afflicts my left rotator cuff, the area just below both calves, the base of the achilles, my knees, and (within the last 6 weeks) has started to affect my fingers and toes. Along with the tendon pain, I experience a lot of muscle stiffness in my forearms, hamstrings, and calves The pain is very activity related.
Avatar m tn I was having testicular pain 7 weeks ago and the doctor suspected i was having a UTI he prescribe me 7 day 500mh cipro twice a day antibiotic treatment. How during the course of it , i have difficulty in breathing and had dey theoat and mouth which i thought should be the normal side effects of the medication. However after completing the course of the drug , i felt nerve pain on my eyes , thighs , groin area , legs , arms. And muscles weakness.
798555 tn?1292787551 I was fine until I took cipro, levaquin or bactrum. I changed meds and my tendinitis went away.
2109342 tn?1380908975 I was assuming that neck pain meant the creaks and stiff neck that Lyme can cause, which is different than tendon pain. Does your LLMD know about your Levaquin pain? Mine took me off it when I got achilles heel pain. I guess it is a balancing act...treating a disease that needs to be treated vs, suffering the side effects. This will be my topic of conversation at my next appointment re: kidneys vs resuming treatment. Sigh.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
867582 tn?1311627397 I recently took a 3 day course of Cipro for a UTI. I have alot of tendon pain already, as I am also battling Lyme disease, but I will "BOLO"! (Be on the look out.
739070 tn?1338603402 I went to PT today to see why my left shoulder arm are aching and causing non-stop pain. I was afraid it was a frozen shoulder , which I was told I am headed for anyway from the weakness in my left arm and the atrophy . The other option I could think of was a rotator cuff tear. Thankfully she ruled both of those out and said I had brachilis tendinitis. Add this to the slowing resolving pneumonia and fatigue and I doing jimmy-dandy.
Avatar f tn I was given the drug Levaquin at the hospital I was diagnosed with Tendonitis 3 months later. I saw an orthopedic surgeon, I had a MRI which show I had Tears in my Tendons and Tendonitis. I had surgery for my Tendonitis. Now After the surgery the pain is worser, I get tingling, sharp shoting pain from the shoulder to my elbow to the forearm. Afetr the surgery he said I did not have Tendonitis.
