levaquin

640719 tn?1277140030 I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor.
Avatar n tn Hey there...you cannot cut the dose in half....i would call your doctor and see if he/she can change your meds or if it's ok to stop..Levaquin can be given in 250, 500 & 750 mg doses...I was on Levaquin earlier this year for uti and had horrible side effects, so i just stopped taking the meds...I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...
Avatar m tn Handsfield I understand that Chlamydia is not transmitted orally so my fears were primarily GC since the Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone. After the Avelox, Flagy and 4 days of the Levaquin I resumed sex with my partner. She had the Bladder infection not long after that and was treated with Nitofuran, Flagyl, 750 mg per day x 6 days and Levaquin, 500 mg per day for 6 days...at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...
Avatar m tn Well, those would work on chlamydia only. They won't work on anything else. If you think you have an std, get tested. No reason to self treat. If you take meds yourself, and they don't clear up symptoms, you screw up the testing time line, and it creates future resistance to the medication.
Avatar m tn My symptoms cleared up the next day. I have been reading on your forum about resistance to fluoroquines (Leviquin). Does Leviquin still work for gonorrhoeae? We live in Florida. Could my wife get gonorrhoeae from vaginal sex 1 day after I had a risky encounter? Will swab of throat test positive for gonorrhoeae if she has been on Leviquin for 3 days? Is Dr. checking for strep and would not test for gonorrhoeae since I didn't tell her? Do the improved symptoms mean she is cured?
Avatar m tn Eventually progressed to epididymitis and I was diagnosed with NGU. Treated with Doxy (no relief) and finally 30 days of levaquin which seemed to take care of the main pain but still had a little bit. Received unprotected oral sex again and same problems started all over again. Given azithro, cipro, and levaquin again and nothing cleared symptoms up. I tested twice for HIV at 8 months (oral test) and a year (blood test) and both were neg.
Avatar m tn I am getting painful ejaculation too in the veins or cords and terrible shooting pains in the pelvis with fungal infection. you could try methenamine/cystex. also cipro and levaquin may help and diflucan.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage. Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

Avatar f tn Hi Robin, Firstly I am sorry you are suffering from this problem, psudemonas is not a nice bacteria. Unfortunately, it is has a high resistance to penicillins and many other anti biotics which makes it difficult to get rid of. However, some psudemonas are sensitive to piperaciliin, tobramycin, imipenem, cyprofloxacin and ticarcillin... although these are still not guaranteed to work. I don't know what anti biotics they have already tried you on, some of these may be worth a try.
Avatar m tn Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
Avatar f tn Had vaginal and oral sex about 30 days ago. Within 24hrs I developed a mild burn/irritation in my urethra and head of penis. I have no visible signs (discharge or redness). It slightly burns when urinating but nothing severe. I've been on a week of Doxy and a week of levaquin-currently on my 3rd day of Zithromax and it still persist. Should I receive a cystoscope from urologist? Does this sound like something transmittal? I had test done through requestatest.
Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
Avatar n tn I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?
Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
Avatar f tn If you stopped the flagyl before the full course was complete you may have developed resistance, they may need to switch you to Vancomycin by mouth. Flagyl can hurt the liver but this is rare. It is a spore that is only killed with bleach outside the body, family members and co-workers may need to tested at the first sign of diarrhea, esp with that foul C diff smell Take the med and get a repeat in 3 weeks after you finish the flagyl, this can be difficult to kill.
2109342 tn?1380908975 Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and to Lyme. I've been doing so well on Levaquin for 30 days. Infact, I've been feeling great! Last week, I began having pain in joints and neck. I know Levaquin can cause this, but so can Lyme. I'm not sure if I should stop taking the Levaquin now, wait and call my doctor on Monday, or try something else first? My doctor is not a Lyme doctor.
Avatar m tn Again the symptoms receded but again they returned. This time my doctor prescribed Levaquin (7 days x 500 mg) and 1 shot of Ceftriaxone. I was re-tested for Chlamydia and don't have the results yet. I read scary reports of serious side effects of Levaquin. It's potent but has risks which is why it's given only as a second line of defense. I'm nervous about taking it and I'm wondering if there are effective alternatives to this.
