Handsfield I understand that Chlamydia is not transmitted orally so my fears were primarily GC since the Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone. Quinolone antibiotics which levaquin is one,can bind to the GABA receptors in the brain and cause seizures or severe panic attacks or shaking in some people.Gaba is the neurotransmitter that is a "downer"neurotransmitter and if it is blocked by quinolones seizures can develop in seizure prone people.I really can not see how blocking GABA will help opiate withdrawal symptoms...unless the researchers have discovered something new.
I was just diagnosed with Pheripheral Neuropathy which was caused by Quinolone antibiotics. My Neurologist recommended Steroid treatments, but could not promise any results. I have read that Steroids should not be taken by people whom have been floxed by Quinolones. Do you know anything about this?
The doctors do not want to admit or agree that floxing is caused by the Quinolones even though the prescription sheet from the pharmacy states so. I am absolutely sure that it is in my case.

I had unprotected sex with a woman about 2 months ago. The next day I began experiencing a slight burn during urination. I went to a doctor who gave me a weeks worth of Doxy and two other pills, Not sure what they were. After 4 days of Doxy things were still getting worse. I went back and he the gave me 500mg of Cipro to be taken 2 times daily for a week. Painful urination persisted. Went back to the doc who then put me on Levofloxicin 500 mg/day x 4 weeks.
I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me.

Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage.
Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects???
I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago).
Any ideas about what is going on?

My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
I came home that day washed very well and started drinking a lot of fluids. I ended up starting to take antibiotics as well. I had a prescription for Levaquin 500 mg pills. I have 20 days worth. Will that kill anything that I could have contracted?
I've been on 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days and I'm having difficulty breathing. Not all the time at times it's just hard to catch my breath without doing anything too physical. Has anyone else had this side effect?

I saw another doctor today and the doctor doesnt listen to me!!! He said I shouldnt have this pain, said maybe its in my head, said maybe I'm a hypochondriac, said I should force myself to do things (which I already do), said that I shouldnt let myself "think" that I'm sick. Like honestly, I'm not crazy, these are REAL symptoms I am feeling. Its SO discouraging when the doctor makes me feel like I'm a fake. I dont understand.
My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
Again the symptoms receded but again they returned. This time my doctor prescribed Levaquin (7 days x 500 mg) and 1 shot of Ceftriaxone. I was re-tested for Chlamydia and don't have the results yet.
I read scary reports of serious side effects of Levaquin. It's potent but has risks which is why it's given only as a second line of defense. I'm nervous about taking it and I'm wondering if there are effective alternatives to this.
Unfortunately, I do not really know a lot about Quinolone toxicity. I did some research, but as you probably already know, the research is very divided on this subject. Have you tried working with a physical therapist. He or she may be able to help you develop a routine that can get you back in the gym, but still protect those areas that remain painful for you. Sorry I could not provide you with more information.
Hello about 3 months ago I was prescribed Levaquin for an upper respirtory infection. Well I did experience the normal side effects listed online but then started getted ringing in my ears. I only had a few days left of the medication and didn't realize the ringing wouldn't go away since the doctor told me it was due to an ear infection.
I have been off balance and have had visual problems and anxiety of not feeling right sometimes through the day.
m treated with a topical antibiotic belonging to the quinolone - twice courses for 2 weeks. It is better but still the infection is not gone. Some of you have any experience? To continue now only local for 3th course or to be taken and internal antibiotics scheme and for how long?
