Avatar m tn Yes, I've left a message for my doctor asking for an alternative. I'm waiting for is reply.
Avatar m tn was prescribed levaquin 500mg for 7 days.
Avatar f tn t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.

Avatar f tn I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn I had levaquin for three separate infections at the same time -- had no problems other than complete and utter exhaustion -- hope you all feel better Jeanne
Avatar m tn I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar m tn Any help would be appreciated. The strep test was negative. Could it be mono? Could it be tonsillitis? This morning, May 24, I had diarrhea and my appetite is not as good. A person in the STD community said it could be HPV, HSV, or syphillis. It appears as if my body is fighting some type of infection, although it could just be my paranoia. I am a male by the way. I have had allergies for years and have never had a sore throat last this long.
Avatar n tn Not sure that Dr Handsfield will answer but will try anyway as related to this thread. This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.
Avatar n tn To confirm the presence of HIV infection, the most specific test would be testing for its antibodies with an ELISA test which is a screening test which looks for antibodies in the blood. The antibodies are usually produced within 1-3 months of the infection. If this test is positive as a lot of false positivity exists with this test another more specific test to detect the antibodies is the Western blot test. Sometimes persistent enlargement of the tonsil can sometimes be due to a lymphoma.
Avatar m tn At the beginning of April (2016) I started feeling unwell so I went to the doctors on the 10th of April and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. I was treated with antibiotics and it went away. I was going through a very stressful period in my life and was smoking (never smoked in my life before) and drinking heavily which started around January so I thought this may have caused the tonsillitis. In May I got a bad urine infection and it turned out my ex had given my chlamydia.
Avatar m tn Do not take Levaquin for a sore throat. The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.
Avatar f tn All my symptoms gradually getting worse. Each time iv just been given more antibiotics for tonsillitis none of which seems to help. I have reffered to the hospital to have my tonsilis taken. However when i went to the doctor last week he suggested that when i saw the consultant at the hispital they should consider throat cancer, this worrys me as i am 18, however i did used to smoke heavily and only recently quit and i am a student so i do drink alot.
Avatar m tn Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
1444860 tn?1284421541 I suffer tonsillitis all my life, I have not taken out my tonsils out, but for 2 weeks straight now I have not being able to swallow properly. My tonsils are swollen which came with a flu too. Please I know I have to go to the doctor to get an antibiotics, but my appointment is not until the 20th of September. I don't remember what type and name of the antibiotics doctors use for tonsillitis besides Penicillin. What can I take in the mean time?
Avatar f tn I'm a little confused, because if there's one thing any doctor should be able to diagnose is advanced tonsillitis. It makes you pretty sick, and it can feel a lot like mono. I had it once and at first it is hard to tell what's going on, but after a week it clearly showed as tonsillitis. Which is what makes me confused, as you've had it for awhile and so docs should have been able to diagnose it by now.
Avatar f tn Tonsillectomy is advised if there is recurrent streptococcal tonsillitis, recurrent peritonsillar abscess and chronic tonsillitis. Recurrent tonsillitis is an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils may harbor the infection which keeps flaring up, or they may develop new infections. Also, sometimes persistent enlargement of the tonsil can sometimes be due to a lymphoma. So, if it is not responding to max, medical treatment, then tonsillectomy is the option.
Avatar m tn Yes you can still feel pain and some slight symptoms even after all seven days, the antibiotic continues to work for a day or so after antibiotics are finished. However if it continues for more than 48 hours after finishing the medicine you should go back to doctor....or if it gets worse. The other thing is you may have a strain that is resistant to amoxicillin and may need to get a different antibiotic altogether. Are you getting better at all? Gargle with warm salt water.
Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar f tn t respond to sinus pills (or any pills, what are sinus pills by the way). You likely have or had a virus and what you do for a virus is comfort care. That means ibuprofen/acetaminophen for pain relief and inflammation relief, fluids, things like hot tea to sooth, gargle with salt water, those numbing products you spray or su ck on. It should run it's course.
Avatar n tn I can understand the antibiotic, but I can't understand the steroid. Kind of odd to mistake tonsillitis for an allergy. The bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotic, otherwise it should have worked by now. I don't know what to suggest that would be efficacious. If it were me I might try using an antiseptic mouthwash and gargling with it.
