DTP stands for Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (not Polio). Once you are an adult, you would not get the DTP or DTaP since it is reccomended only for children up to age 7. If you have never had any Tetanus vaccinations, you would want to ask your doctor about starting a series of Td shots to get the basic immunity. After that, you would get one every ten years.

From what I understand, older adults may no longer have strong immunity to Pertussis. With certain vaccines, I think for adults they are adding the Pertussis back into it, if you so choose, but I'm not 100%sure. Also, not sure if this is a recommendation by the Pediatricians or your daughter.

My mom told me I should get a pertussis vaccination before I have the baby. Has anyone else done this??

t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Safety and efficacy in pregnant women and nursing mothers have not been established. Levofloxacin is not indicated for pediatric patients (<18 years of age). Levofloxacin is contraindicated in persons with known hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolone antibacterials.

For us in the Philippines, the pertussis vaccine is part of the babies vaccination at 2 months old. Just avoid sick coughing people as much as possible.

I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?

I have had a cough for over 5 weeks now. I wasn't sick and it basically popped up out of no where. I haven't ran a fever at all. I went to the doctor, and my throat isn't swollen or sore, and my lungs are clear. When I cough I stop breathing. Its as if my throat closes up completely. It takes me a a bit to catch my breath, but before I am able to, my chest goes to hurting from not being able to breathe. Once I am finally able to breathe again, I feel exhausted.

He has recieved pertussis immuization. He coughs so much he vomits. I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.

I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

TDaP stands for Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis. Pertussis is whooping cough. This vaccine gives you protection of all three of these diseases. By getting vaccinated while pregnant, your body forms antigens which cross the plecenta and to the baby meaning your baby will also be immune to the diseases.

Not sure that Dr Handsfield will answer but will try anyway as related to this thread. This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.

t get the Tdap until they are older abs it contains the pertussis vaccine. Pertussis is on the rise and can be fatal to an infant if they get it.

My last tetanus (Td) shot was in 2007 (9 years ago). I asked my doctor if I can have my booster shot now before I lose my health insurance in a few weeks. He told me that since I wasn't due for a booster until next year that I would have to wait (and therefore pay for it out of pocket). They tested me for TB- negative, the lab messed up the test for cat stratch fever and tested for pertussis so need to go give blood again to rule that out as cause of GM. (Interesting thing is that 2 of the levels of pertussis came back high and I have never had pertussis in my life, so now I need to figure that out.) And also, she wants me to get a second opinion from another breast surgeon to see if she is missing anything surgically, etc. I totally trust her and have agreed.
