Levaquin black box warning

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin black box warning

levaquin

Avatar n tn This is DEFINITELY an adverse side effect from the Levaquin. I believe this medication has a "black box" warning in the USA. As soon as you NOTICED the problems, you should have NOTIFIED your physician ASAP!!! In the future, if you notice problems WHILE taking a medication you should NOTIFY your physician to get recommendations and not just finish a medication.
Avatar n tn On July 8, 2008 the Food and Drug Administration slapped a black box warning on Cipro and other, similar antibiotics due to an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture. Recent adverse reports include ruptures to the shoulder, hand, bicep or thumb tendons." "Fluoroquinolones carry a Black Box Warning To/For Doctors." http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/features/cipro/cipro-side-effects-antibiotic-drug.html#.U0Ar5HQ8lCx From The FDA: http://www.fda.
148588 tn?1465778809 m more concerned with its other scary sides than this tumor thing, as I have none of cancers mentioned in the black box warning. But its either take procrit or reduce riba or abandon tx, so I'm choosing procrit to see if I can finish tx and clear this virus once and for all.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, taking a drug which cures me, even though it has a black box warning, is a whole lot better than avoiding that drug and ending up in a pine box six feet under instead. However, one might be surprised at the drugs that have black box warnings. Many are very commonly taken and no one thinks twice about it.
Avatar f tn It is so common that there is a Black Box warning for this. Again, thank you for your response.
4451049 tn?1387153437 With the advent of a “black-box warning” mandated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there is enough data to suggest that FQs should be used cautiously in a selected population of patients.1 This review is designed to unveil for the clinician the pathophysiology, epidemiology, treatment options, and outcomes related to FQ-induced tendinitis and tendon rupture.
4451049 tn?1387153437 They both deserve that Black Box warning. Or pulled----- since surely there might be other drugs that could do the same thing? I hope you will benefit by molecular and genetic medicine when it becomes the 'thing'. I probably won't live that long. Some of the problems with side effects etc may be overcome then.
Avatar n tn Hello. I thought I would give you ladies some information I've just read about the drug Reglan. I thought it would be important because I've read that several women have been given this drug to increase Milk production. With the recent Black Box warning: "Feb. 27, 2009 -- The FDA has ordered a "black box" warning, the FDA's strongest warning, for drugs that contain metoclopramide, which is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Elidel, however at first I was concerned with the black box warning and asked my doctor for a prescription skin barrier cream instead called EpiCeram to try first. Anyways, I have used the EpiCeram for a couple months along with a penis vitamin cream call Man 1 Man Oil and Emu Oil also. It seems as though my condition has improved somewhat, but not completely and I am wondering whether or not I should try the Elidel now since I want to get this resolved faster!
Avatar f tn Those antibiotics have been black boxed Twice in the US by the FDA. Google Cipro and Levaquin lawsuits or black box warnings or permanent damage caused by...
179856 tn?1333547362 Nygirl, When I was on treatment, I got sick and my neuts fell to zero, I was on IV levaquin for 15 days and went home with oral levaquin for a few more weeks. I have cirrhosis. My liver enzymes didn't even budge. I think you will be ok, too. While we have to be cautious and make sure our docs are doing the right thing, many of those warnings are weighed against the benefits of taking the drug.
Avatar f tn According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children. I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.

Avatar m tn Do you have a question about the black box warning?
Avatar f tn Your liver has to process all those drugs. I hope you are alright! My mother has paracetamol toxicity and her liver enzymes were very high. You can die days after overdosing on drugs due to liver failure. I would go to the hospital just in case. I too had suicidal thoughts. In my case due to vitamin B12 malabsorption. This was my cause of seriously deficient serotonin levels. Serotonin is the happiness neurotransmitter.
Avatar m tn There is now evidence that is damaged our GOD GIVEN DNA and mutates it.. 2 black box warnings. all for mere bronchitis when I asked for a mild drug they scoffed at me and gave me this.. I really had no clue, now it is too late.. I don't know how I can hang on without any relief. I have tried everything I can think of and it is 3 years and I don't think I can spend my life standing in the shower crying for relief much longer.
Avatar m tn From what ive heard, the fda has some sort of black label warning on this drug, the most severe warning a drug can have...next is to pull it off the shelf. I was on Levaquin for 5 days and have experienced much of the same side effects of others.
5079728 tn?1365549989 Bupropion, also known as Wellbutrin (as an anti-depressant) and Zyban (as a smoke cessation aide) has a black box warning for suicidal tendencies and suicide completion. Anti-microbial drugs (antibiotics) that contain fluoroquinolones, such as Avelox, Cipro and Levaquin, have warnings because they can increase the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, especially in patients over 60 years old.
Avatar n tn I had pneumonia in Feb 2017. Was on 750 mg of Levaquin for 5 days (1 per day). A few days after the last dose my left Achilles tendon was very sore. 1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle.

Avatar m tn I took 80,000 epo for 48 weeks then dropped down to 40,000 for the next 24 weeks at Dr. Jacobson's order. I don't know of anyone on here who would consider taking iron at all since we've all been explicitly warned not to because iron is crucial for viral replication. Much better odds just taking the epo/procrit and working towards that SVR goal.
Avatar f tn Hello about 3 months ago I was prescribed Levaquin for an upper respirtory infection. Well I did experience the normal side effects listed online but then started getted ringing in my ears. I only had a few days left of the medication and didn't realize the ringing wouldn't go away since the doctor told me it was due to an ear infection. I have been off balance and have had visual problems and anxiety of not feeling right sometimes through the day.
Avatar f tn s called a black box warning from the fda that it causes bone density loss. They only put a black box warning on drugs that have serious side effects that are severe. Google it. It is by far the most dangerous and damaging of all the birth control options and no one who values their health should use it.
Avatar f tn I agree doctors should definitely tell the patient of possible side effects, but they don't. You have to ask and even then they act like you are taking up too much time. I always look the drugs up on line before taking anything and call the local pharmacist if I have questions. I would have stopped taking it if I had a bad reaction or called the doctor right away or doctor on call for this. You probably should have gone to the ER right away. It sounds like a very serious reaction.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I feel so grown up :-) self diagnosed and confirmed at a local Doc-in-the-Box. Let's hope 500mg Levaquin 1/Day does the trick!
Avatar n tn I took two doses of 500 MG Levaquin on consecutive days, then stopped. Now a week later I still have tingling in my hands and arms. Peripheral Neuropathy is a rare adverse reaction to quinolones. I have reported this to the FDA and to McNeil. The waring statement says (may be reversible if treated in time). Another just says irreversible. The 2004 warning from the FDA states: "{the drug} should be discontinued if the patient experiences symptoms of neuropathy . . .
