Avatar m tn Surgical repair for rotator cuff tears is reserved for partial tears refractory to conservative treatment and for full thickness tears. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar f tn I was mowing with a riding mower I heard and felt a load pop. Ihave been told its not a torn rotator cuff, its just a strain. I still have constant pain in my shoulder and I found a bruise on my shoulder it looks like it is going away but it looks like it covered all of my shoulder. What does this sound like? And what if anything can be done?
Avatar f tn I am 75 and last year had surgery for massive rotator cuff repairs due to a fall on my right shoulder. It has taken a year for recovery. I have full range of motion but weakness on over the head movement. Meanwhile I fell again on the left shoulder. I had two injections which helped briefly. The MRI shows massive retracted rotator cuff tendons. My choices are biological repair or reverse replacement. Any suggestions?
755109 tn?1234238837 Most of the answers to your questions will depend on the specifics of your injury; torn rotator cuff injuries can range from small tears that can yield complete recovery, to large tears that cause chronic disability. Steroid injections will not heal a torn rotator cuff, but they reduce inflammation and pain, although the pain can get worse for a day or two after the injection before eventually improving.
Avatar f tn However, many patients still suffer disability and pain despite non-surgical therapies. For massive tears of the rotator cuff, surgery has shown results; discuss all options with your Orthopedician. Take care!
1205014 tn?1265727913 You have involvement of supraspinatus, infraspinatus and long head of biceps. Rotator cuff consists of supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subcapularis muscles. Surgical management is indicated for a rotator cuff tear that does not respond to non surgical management and is associated with weakness, loss of function, and limited motion. Take care!
Avatar f tn Then I went to yet another surgeon. Told me I probably had rotator cuff tears and recommended physical therapy. I opted not to do that because I spoke to too many people that had rotator cuff tears who informed me that it does no good, do not waste your money......you need the surgery. Went to this new surgeon last week and he said no it is not a torn rotator cuff, it is a pinched nerve. Ok.......sent me for bone scan and MRI last week. Finally we got to the bottom of it..
535758 tn?1213715961 I did not have shoulder pain before the neck surgery however, now I have pain in both shoulders. Eight weeks ago I had slap and rotator cuff surgery because I was told my shoulder was torn. I am not getting any better! It was my left shoulder they operated on however, now both are hurting without any relief. I don't know how my shoulder was torn bad enough to have to have slap and rotator cuff repair without knowing it........I woke up after neck surgery this way!
Avatar m tn m sorry to read that your Rotator Cuff is problematic again. We all know how pain, especially when chronic can disrupt our lives. Rotator Cuff repair surgery can sometimes be iffy. There are a lot of factors that come into play. Success often depends on the severity of the tear, the surgeon preforming it and what degree of activity your lifestyle demands from your shoulder. Rotator cuff repair surgery for a tear from a sudden injury works best if it is done within a few weeks of the injury.
Avatar f tn following an MRI of the shoulder for another reason other than to go looking for tears, the scans come back showing tears to many of the rotator cuff muscles and damage to the long head of the bicep tendon together with a few other issues. My question is.... when you view the MRI scans, because the patient doesn't have any history whatsoever of symptoms relating to this damage and functioned quite normally they would not know when this damage may have occurred.
Avatar m tn Impression: 1. Rotator cuff tears with 2 discrete moderate grade tears at the anterior leading edge of the supraspinatus and at the junction with the infraspinatus. Low-grade intrasubstance tear of the subscapularis. 2. Complex intrasubstance tears of the posterior superior labrum and anterior and anterior superior labrum. This is superimposed on a sublabral foramen. 3. Moderate acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis and associated bone marrow edema. 4.
Avatar f tn Hi, marrow edema most often is associated with a history of trauma and with rotator cuff abnormalities including full thickness tears. Bone marrow edema has several ediologies (sp) such as infection, cancer, stress fractures, cancer etc. Any abnormalities of your rotator cuffs or tendons?
Avatar n tn MRI showed torn biceps tendon and other small bursal tears and tendonitis, and a rotator cuff tear. Would a bone metastases have been revealed on the MRI of my arm and shoulder? Should I ask for a bone scan? I am 57 years old and have been cancer free since a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis 8 years ago. I am worried that the pain does not go away.
Avatar f tn I had a shoulder decompression and rotator cuff tear repair about 5 years ago, A few months ago I had a ultrasound which showed a full thickness tear, bursitis and osteoarthritis, went to see a ortho surgeon who then got me to have a MRI scan. The scan showed no tear but alot of fluid in the shoulder, he called it a angry shoulder? Is it possible for a MRI to be wrong? If not what is with the fluid in the shoulder? can someone please help.
Avatar f tn It is a very weird sensation- it feels as if it starts underneath my shoulder blad then wraps around my rotator cuff and then comes across my collar bone about half way to my neck. My fingers do not tingle. It feels as if my shoulder is in the wrong location and needs to be popped back into place. I also have a mild winged specula on that side and TMJ. I had a pinched nerve years ago (almost ten years ago) where the chiropractor moved my shoulder. I think he might have done a poor job.
Avatar f tn This sounds like a rotator cuff injury. Rotator cuff tear of the shoulder causes pain and weakness at the joint. Complete rotator cuff tear results in inability to raise the arm away from the side under your own strength. This is usually injured due to excessive force like trying to catch a falling heavy object or lifting an extremely heavy object with an extended arm. Consult an orthopaedic surgeon for evaluation.
Avatar m tn You would need to follow up with a physiotherapist and also try conservative treatment initially. Supraspinatus and infraspinatus are part of the rotator cuff muscles and any tear does not suggest surgery and it can be repaired with proper therapy. If this does not work out then surgery is required to correct this. Take care!
Avatar m tn It is 3months since rotator cuff torn and large biceps torn operation . My hand was numb and not swollen for weeks, then swelling started and increased . Despite much exercising fingers and hand feel tired and weak joints hurt when stressed and have limited movement. Hand specialist diagnosed RSD. Is it hopelessly damaged by operation?
Avatar m tn I have had 3 steriod shots, lidicain shot, meds, physical therapy and also rest, nothing is working. I have had rotator cuff and slap tear surgeries in past and know i have arthritis but the doc is stuck on the arthritis and i have had no relief. I think something else is going on its been 3 months with no relief. help!!!
Avatar f tn Rotator cuff muscles are supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subcapsularis and to deal with the pain, the only thing you can do is to restrict the movements of these muscles & anti inflammatory drugs & ice packing. Take care!
1021719 tn?1297370001 It is always good to go for strengthening of muscles and your Rotator cuff by Physical therapy to cure this and keep surgery as the last option. Take care and follow up near your Orthopedician.
Avatar f tn I have been to 3 doctors and the first one said i was fine, second said i had bursitis and rotator cuff tendinitis and told me i just have to live in pain, third one says its instability and the PT says its biceps tendonosis and myofascial pain. MRI was done 5 mos ago but due to position rotator cuff and labrum tears cant be determined, just showed significant strain/sprain.
Avatar m tn They may also occur in association with rotator cuff tendonitis and tears. Oftentimes, however, the exact cause of the superior labral tear is not known. Diagnosis A superior labral tear is diagnosed when a patient complains of clicking in the shoulder associated with vague pain the front or top of the shoulder. Physical exam techniques such as the crank test are used to support the diagnosis. An MRI may also reveal the tear.
Avatar m tn Oh my gosh, rotator cuff injuries! Worst and things people really struggle with often. I take it you are seeing an orthopedist? This would be best if you are not. I'm all in favor of least invasive first. You've tried PT. But the degree of tear may mean that it is going to need more. Sigh. Yes, try the cortisone. I'd do that before surgery. Problem with surgery is that sometimes patients don't get the full range of motion back.
900662 tn?1469390305 It was a fight the get the MRI, I had the MRI this past week and had a follow up with my PCP, all he could say after looking at the report this is BAD -BAD and you need surgery. I have two tears in rotator cuff and bunch of other stuff I've seem to hurt that also needs repair. I see the ortho surgeon on Wednesday.
