Levaquin and enterococcus

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and enterococcus

levaquin

Avatar f tn Now, with the frequency and urgency issues are more prevalent (and the itching and stinging pains more of a distraction), my semen has just been retested and shows Enterococcus faecalis (test says sensitive to Penicilin and Vancomycin). Conventional, well respected doctor recommends antibiotics for a month to treat, but given I have been on so many antibiotics (NonHodgkins Lymphoma-Chemo/Radiation) in last few years, I am loath to do another course unless absolutely necessary. 1.
Avatar n tn I finished the course and went back for culture and it still came back positive for enterococcus. She then put me on a higher dose of Ampicilling (850mg) and said I should see a Urologist or Urogyn. I went to Urologist and have had a bladder/kidney ultrasound which was negative, postvoid residual scan results = scant, and I am scheduled for a cystoscopy next week. I have taken Cipro 500, Levofloxacin 2 different times and I still have this enterococcus bacteria. It will not go away.
Avatar f tn It is also found in soil, water and plants. Entrococcus faecalis is transmitted by touch and can also be contracted through public restrooms and animal fecal matter. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn I have some red sports on my penis and I was absolutely sure it is candida ( because it had all the simptoms: bad smell, white discarghe, ichness etc) and I made a penile swab, but the only result was enterococcus spp. Could this be the cause of my balanitis? or is it possible to have something else, that didn't come up at the lab.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
Avatar m tn I've been recently diagnosed with enterococcus and it caused urinary tract infection. Now, my question is - could enterococcus be transmitted on other persons through kissing (via saliva etc.)? Is it present in the mouth? And in what ways enterococcus is transmitted anyway? What kind of complications could it cause?
Avatar f tn Initial tests done at 36 hrs from onset presentation were pcr swab, igm and igg and all were negatives (lab corp). main symptoms were swelling of vulva and 3 small ulcerations, low fever and minor lymph swelling. At 8 weeks igm and igg redone and both negative. At 17 wks, igg was redone and still negative. I am with a new partner who is negative and thus don't want to stop suppressive therapy.
Avatar f tn If they are, I just recommend that you do the prebiotic/probiotic thing along with for your best chance to get over this. And if it keeps going on and on, fecal transplants apparently do wonders. Let me know how you are doing, I feel your pain.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar m tn Also my wife has been experiencing dysuria/frequency/little blood in urine, back pain, burning that was severe a few weeks ago it went away after about 5 days, but I was scared and treated her with Levaquin after she refused to go to ER. We have been having protected intercourse, I'm still concerned about HSV, any other way I can get a good confirmatory diagnosis for that?
Avatar n tn After that, strep was gone, but e colli was there, so Bactrim was prescribed for 5 days. 3rd time only enterococcus faecalis was reported and nothing was prescribed until after 20days the doctor repeated examination. 4th swab indicated presence of strep b (second time) and enterococcus faecalis, amoxiscilin is prescribed for 8-10 days. I have Raynaud syn suspected, tonsillectomy done, mitral valve prolapse, acne papulopustulosa, painful menstruations, but regular, and sometimes UTI.
Avatar n tn s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?
Avatar f tn Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.
Avatar m tn Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar n tn The typical symptoms of prostatitis are fever, pelvic, testicle, or rectal pain, frequent and painful urination and ejaculation and incomplete emptying of bladder. In addition to the antibiotics, use medications to help relieve bothersome symptoms, such as alpha blockers to relieve urinary symptoms and anti-inflammatory medications for pain. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.
Avatar f tn 2016 for recurrent Sepsis. The offending bacteria include E. Choli, Enterococcus, and others that live happily in the bowel. Admissions have ranged from 4 to 9 days. After the 4th admission, doctors said they didn't know what the underlying problem was, and suggested I might have better luck at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere. After two visits to Mayo in MN, where nothing was found, I was admitted the 5th time back home.
793305 tn?1493925518 I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!
1070570 tn?1283436213 Other enterococcal species known to cause human infection include Enterococcus avium, Enterococcus gallinarum, Enterococcus casseliflavus, Enterococcus durans, Enterococcus raffinosus and Enterococcus mundtii.[1] E faecium represents most vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Isolation of enterococci resistant to multiple antibiotics has become increasingly common in the hospital setting.
Avatar m tn Enterococcus faecalis is suspectible to Ampicilin, penicilin, rifampin, norfloxacin, vancomycin, linezolid and is resistant to tetracycline and synercid.I'm temporary in US and I have no insurance and I wonder is it wise to take any of these antibiotics, even though I was told by a doctor that antibiotic hardly get to this area and do the work,is there any possibility to eliminate this bacteria in my urine?
