Levaquin and asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and asthma

levaquin

Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
1373852 tn?1307843048 I would like to know if drugs such as levaquin and cipro and the medicines they use to keep a person in a medical coma can cause fibromyalgia or symptoms like it that persist once the person is recovered from the original illness.I had a bad asthma attack nine months ago,was put in a medical coma for respiratory failure because of it.I have had every test or almost.cbc, autoimmune, hiv, hep c,b,a.I have had emg, eeg, nerve conduction, brain mri, cervical spine.
Avatar f tn my nose was bleeding and i had a fever, 2 days after finishing levaquin. asthma clinic sent me for a cat scan of my head which showed a horrible infection in my sinuses. coughing was out of control. they put me on a 2 wk regimen of avelox. i am not having any side effects from it, but infection continues to get worse. at this point i feel no end in sight for this infection. it is feeding off the antibiotics and in my mind i will never get well.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.
Avatar n tn I'm a 44-year old female, with asthmatic allergic response to cats since childhood. I smoked off and on from 18-39, about 5 pack-years. I've lived near a cat (outdoors with access to my husband's study) for 18 years, and have treated my asthma with albuterol, adding ventolin when necessary. About 12 weeks ago I caught bronchitis, then wildfires broke out near my home that made the air unhealthy for about 2 weeks. This provoked a severe asthma attack -- for three weeks.
Avatar n tn She told me that the pain under my shoulder blade and top shoulder came from asthma, and I needed to stretch those muscles, and that stretching according to her belief would cure it. Obviously, she's never had asthma. I didn't mention to her that a few weeks previous that I had tightness in the center of my chest.
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
215342 tn?1287838418 What you describe sounds like badly controlled asthma. Asthma can cause coughing like that and coughing like that can cause vomiting. Also lot of phlegm can make you nauseous and with the coughing can make you vomit. If you are still coughing (hope not) you should go back to the doctor controlling your asthma. Ideal is to have asthma well enough controlled so that you dont cough at all. Asthma can cause permanent damage to your airways if not controlled.
Avatar f tn pneumonia last year. asthma (take singulair) Ulcerative colitis when i was 19 and had total colectomy. Most recently i have tendonitis in both wrists and it is progressing despite steroid injections, volaren cream (have to be careful of oral nsaids d/t asthma), splinting and physical therapy. I have had raynauds type symptoms in hands over past 3 years and stiffness in elbows.
1580703 tn?1651904887 With a personal best peak flow measurement of 600-625, a drop to 425 is quite significant. Your asthma was clearly uncontrolled and it may well have been necessary for your doctor to have prescribed prednisone/solumedrol. You may have been predisposed to the throat infection by the steroids or the infection may have caused both the sore throat and aggravated the asthma. We can only speculate on the preceding. The good news is that the infection finally seems to have resolved.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I refuse to take Symbicort and am coughing a lot less and have less exercise induced asthma. I just use my rescue inahler as needed. ( approx. 3 times a week.) Also discovered I am allergic to Lexapro. I would break out in a rash 2 hours after taking the drug and have a asthma attack. So I take Ativan (1mg) as needed for anxiety. For allergies I find Claritin works the best....
Avatar f tn I am allergic to penicillin and related antibiotics, but my physician has me keep albuterol and a mild antibiotic on hand in case protracted respiratory symptoms develop, usually after a cold. OK. This happened recently. I had a cold and then the usual subsequent respiratory problems. I held off, then went to the bronchodilator. When my symptoms persisted and I felt worse, I finally decided to take the antibiotic (Azithromycin). This has worked before; this time it didn't.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar n tn s say that the doctor calls me before the weekend and says that I did indeed have a bacterial infection that the Levaquin treated and all other tests came back negative (this is a hypothetical situation obviously). I started taking it today (Monday); by the time Saturday rolls around, I will have taken my 6/7 dose. My question is this: will I still be able to transmit any infection that I may have right now? Or will the Levaquin have made it so I am no longer contagious?
Avatar f tn Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems. I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection.
Avatar m tn Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.
Avatar m tn I was on levaquin a couple years ago, it made me very sick to my stomach and gave me some joint pain. I didn't realize until after I took it that it can damage tendons and I read it can also cause hernias. I would never take it again. That's just my opinion, I would also ask for something else.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar f tn I also have gurgling sounds in my left lung that also are not constant. I have seen my MD and did levaquin and steroids. The steroids seemed to help for a while. I also went to pulmonary MD who did some spirometry test on a computer but he said they were normal. Of course i didnt cough or have any symptoms during my visit but they are still present. I had a chest xray apparently normal. These coughing fits to the point of gagging are horrible.
Avatar f tn History of IBD with surgery so NSAIDs hurt my stomach plus I have asthma which it exacerbates. Even the voltaren gel bothers my asthma and stomach. Today headache/neck pain/facial swelling/nausea/arm pain/fatigue, when will it end? Plan to talk to pcp about seeing a rheumatologist. I see second opinion ortho in November. Feel like I'm crashing, its getting so difficult to hide how bad I feel and I'm scared.
Avatar n tn The typical symptoms of prostatitis are fever, pelvic, testicle, or rectal pain, frequent and painful urination and ejaculation and incomplete emptying of bladder. In addition to the antibiotics, use medications to help relieve bothersome symptoms, such as alpha blockers to relieve urinary symptoms and anti-inflammatory medications for pain. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn If you have been taking levaquin, do not have a urine chlamydia test. Levaquin cures chlamydia and would make the test negative, even if you were infected recently. At this point, there is no point in having any more chlamydia testing at all.
793305 tn?1493925518 I would trust the pharmacist. I have had levaquin and synthroid and it has been fine. They have website that you can search the reaction of medications with each other. Just google it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn At this point I still had a bit of swelling in the testicle and spoke with my urologist and was prescribed another course of levaquin. ive taken it for 7 days now and see that i am still having the clear discharge and have some discomfort. also, i was also treated for a mycoplasma pnemonia infection about 3 weeks prior and was given clarithomycin for 10 days. i went to a new doctor, because I just moved out of state, and am waiting the results of a urinalysis.
Avatar f tn I have had two ear infections, have taken 3 courses of antibiotics, the last one being Levaquin and Cipro eardrops. I have had a constant runny nose the entire time and recently whenever I blow my nose I have bloody mucus. I also feel congested and am having a hard time hearing. I am also tired a lot, more than usual. I have seen my ENT numerous times and he lately concluded that its my severe allergies and changed my medication but so far no changes.
