arava

Avatar n tn i take the leflunomide (arava) but also take pills for the reflux, which does help. I take renitidine i believe it is called. I found it worked pretty good for the swelling myself. I am also on the Embrel, but still do not have R.A under control. I just wanted to say that the arava was the best drug i have taken up until i was put on the embrel. I live in B.
446049 tn?1649005835 A friend of a friend who had (IBS) chronic diarreah and her doctor started her on Cholestyramine which she got in packets and mixed with juice to drink. After a week her diarreah was gone and now has been gone for a little over 3 months. I know that it's prescribed for cholesterol issues, but it also has stopped her constant diarreah. The strange thing is her gastro doctor prescribed it and her cholesterol levels have always been fine.

Avatar f tn He has been on a combination of Arava 20 mg ( Hydroxychloroquine) and Plaquenil (Leflunomide) . He has been going severly downhill since January and has lost 40 pounds, has constant mucous drainage that he chokes on especially after meals, and has severe shortness of breath. Can these symptoms be a result of the medications he is taking? Is it safe for him to take two synthetic DMARDS at the same time?
Avatar n tn Has anyone taken Questran (cholestyramine)? Has it helped or cause worse problems. Does it actually stop the diarrhea? I am taking also Lomotil which has not helped much at all. I started it 2 days ago and have not noticed any change. If this med doesn't help than I will have to start on TPN. Thank you for any information you can give.
Avatar n tn Cheri70 is right low fat is the only way to go but you may have to start taking Cholestyramine which is a powdered medication that you can mix with juice or water that binds the excess bile. Often times, especially in women, you can have stomach irritation and develop Colitis if your Liver produces too much bile. The small Intestines usually absorbs bile but if there is too much it can enter the Colon and scorch the lining causing inflammation, pain, nausea, and a variety of other issues.
6708370 tn?1471490210 Pruritus due to liver disease is particularly resistant to therapy. Cholestyramine (Questran) 4 g/day, gradually increased to 24 g/day, is one option. If the pruritus does not respond or the patient cannot tolerate cholestyramine, rifampin (Rifadin) can be tried. Spider angiomas, Bier spots, and “paper-money” skin are all superficial vascular problems that may be related to liver disease.
168348 tn?1379357075 Maybe your should talk to your son's doctor about taking Cholestyramine powder. It's by prescription, and to take Benifiber. The Cholestyramine absorbs the fat. It was originally for cholesterol. I knew someone who took two products and she does well. You have to play with the Cholestyramine powder till you get the right dose so you don't get constipated. That's why you take the fiber.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed about 6 years ago and I was going at least 6 to 12 times a day and when I had to go I had to go now! Very urgent. I went to my family doc and he said I needed to bulk up with fiber. I didn't think that would help but I tried it. Tried a lot of things that didn't work. I then tried Cholestyramine. That helped with the urgency but I was still going 5 to 8 times a day.
168348 tn?1379357075 Sorry! I knew I had read something about your daughter!!!! I posted this about your son on the other thread thinking....oh, well, who cares! After I posted it, I realized that THIS was the post I was looking for! OOPS. Replace the references to your son for your daughter! MY BAD!!!! Maybe you should talk to your son's doctor about taking Cholestyramine powder. It's by prescription, and to take Benifiber. The Cholestyramine absorbs the fat. It was originally for cholesterol.
Avatar n tn Has anyone become pregnant while taking cholestyramine? I f yes, any side effects to fetus?
Avatar n tn Though it is frustrating, it resolves over a period of time. Taking cholestyramine will resolve the symptoms if it is bile acid diarrhea. 2. It can be due to other causes not related gallbladder or its removal. Some of the causes include irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease etc. You can find out whether you get relief with cholestyramine. Also try to avoid fatty food. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr.
Avatar m tn The itching has returned worse than ever.I used to control it with 2 packets of cholestyramine daily but it is not stopping it this time.My skin is killing me from the scratching which I know I shouldn't do but cant help myself because I get desperate for relief.Has anyone with cirrhosis who has had bad itching found anything over the counter that provided some relief from the itching.
Avatar f tn My Dr prescribed cholestyramine powder to take before lunch to help stop the diarrhea. She also suggested taking otc bile salts or pancreatic enzymes as well. I am a bit confused, isn't the problem too much bile salts in my system? Also, why take a cholesterol medication for gallbladder diarrhea issues? Are there any negatives to taking it? Ie..strain on liver, etc? Also, any other recommendations? Is the diarrhea typically forever after gallbladder removal or will it subside?
Avatar m tn Now at 7-months later, I am still having problems with diarrhea, bloating, gas, etc. The doc provided prescription cholestyramine for oral, back in August daily. Then doc cut to a package every other day. Then I cut to 1/2 pack every other day. I take with either apple or craneberry juice. The water like diarrhea, leaking, bloating still occurs. Also I go to the bathroom near 4-times daily and then about 2 more times at night. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Avatar m tn it is called Cholestyramine. If you are in doubt of what it is and how it looks, please look it up on WebMD. or another trusted site. I have a few extra cans available. I no longer need the amount i used to use. This has been a godsend for me and it can be for you too. These are brand new sealed containers that are current, stored properly and in date. Each can measures 378 grams and is 42 measured doses. I paid $95.00 per can at Rite Aid Pharmacy.
Avatar n tn t be all re-absorbed in small intestine, as usually, so it reaches the colon, where it causes burning pain. It is a drug cholestyramine, which binds this excessive bile and both the drug and bile are excreted with the stool then. Fibers, as ground flax-seeds, colloidal bentonite, and psyllium husk may have the same effect as cholestyramine, so maybe these should be tried.
332074 tn?1229560525 I was also diagnoised with a spastic colon when 19 and I have been struggling with my colon issues since my surgery. I was taking Lialdia for my colon and then my insurance changed and I can not afford to get it anymore. So now my colon is hurting and I am having what feels like severe gas pain in the upper right quadran of my stomach under my right breast. Could all of these issues be related to my gallbladder removal? Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn I believe you are referring to a fecal transplant - a procedure not FDA approved. I asked about this in a Crohn's and Colitis forum a few days ago with several expert physicians. Their response is that the extreme doses of antibiotics to completely clear out all bacteria in the GI tract is extremely dangerous - possibly deadly. Much research also suggests that the bacteria in our GI has developed over our lifetime and removing it could cause more auto-immune issues than it fixes.
Avatar n tn I took Benadryl for awhile then was prescribed another antihistamine. Finally was prescribed Cholestyramine. It all but totally eliminated the itching.
216175 tn?1226095585 which is a pretty sucky good thing ya kno. but one thing i noticed that helped was my doc also put me on cholestyramine. its a cholesterol lowering medicine but in the case of lymes it acts as a binding agent. all the bugs that are killed and the toxins they produce from dying from the meds build up in your intestines are binded to the cholestyramine and eliminated from your body. the only con is that it will give you really loose watery stool so your body will take time to adjust to the med.
Avatar n tn I had the same surgery and everything in April. Since your gallbladder is gone, there is no reservoir for bile, so it's pretty much pouring out into your intestines. Try asking your doctor for a Rx for Cholestyramine. It's a medicine you drink that will bind with the over-flowing bile so you're not in so much pain. Oh and stay away from fatty foods...they don't digest very well after this surgery.
Avatar n tn Anti-diarrheal medications, such as loperamide (Imodium A-D) Medications that impair absorption of bile acids, such as cholestyramine or aluminum hydroxide You may also consider limiting foods that can worsen diarrhea in general, including: Caffeine Dairy products Greasy foods Very sweet foods
428506 tn?1296557399 I suppose I could have titled this "How I've treated my Lyme is year," but after writing awhile I went with the above. Since I don't swing by as often as I used to, I'll start off by noting that I was dx-ed with Lyme and Bart in late 2008, based largely on exclusion of other conditions and clinical presentation. That is, no firm blood tests. I was treated by an ILADS LLMD on combination oral antibiotics for over 3 years. In 2010 I relocated from MD to the Midwest.
