Lantus type 1

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus type 1

lantus

Avatar f tn I use Novorapid as my quick acting and have low doses of that (10, 6, 8) and 16 Lantus. I have been type 1 diabteic for 26 years (since I was 5) and have not had problems with my weight but in the last 6 weeks have gained 5.1kg I am very active and am finding this hard to deal with. Can anyone shed any light on to what I can do to loose weight as i have tried everything ! I am considering going onto an Insulin pump.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but am a long-time type 1 diabetic who also takes Lantus and Humalog insulins and who has also done weight training at times in my life. I think you may be able to understand what is happening if you look at how your body immediately responds to both kinds of excercise and then look at what happens hours later after both kinds of exercise. In cardio exercise, you are working hard for a reasonably short period of time, burning LOTS of carbs and calories quickly.
Avatar n tn just found out my son has type 1, he was in the hospital for a week with out of control bs levels of over 500. he works on a sliding scale and carb count for his insulin and gets 15 mg of lantus everynight. i am still having alot of trouble with his high bs at night. i have that stupid fear of giving him to much insulin and then he gets lantus. i guess the ?
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diabetic and I have been using insulin for as long as 11 years. I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
Avatar f tn I'm 29 and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 18 months ago. it has been extremely difficult to lose weight since I got on insulin. i am on lantas/humalog and exercise regularly. If I work to reduce my lantus dosage while maintaining a proper blood sugar will that aid weight loss? Does anything out there help to boost metabolism in diabetics? Frustrated! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn So that may be part of the problem -- the fats slow down the digestive process. Do call his doctor and ask for help. Type 1 diabetes is not a disease whereby the doctor can automatically say, "you need x amount of insulin" -- each person's dosage must be tailored exactly to that particular person, considering their activity, metabolism, and diet. So it probably just isn't quite right yet. Don't lose heart. Adjustments will probably solve the problem.
Avatar m tn and I know i'm a type 1 diabetic because I have been taking humalog and lantus for last 11 years and havent in the last 2 months with the exception of 1 or 2 injections.
Avatar n tn I have type 1 diabetes and am on Lantus. I was wondering though what the difference between 70/30 and Lantus is. My understanding is that they are both long lasting insulins, but I don't know much else. Does anyone know?
Avatar n tn ve been a type 1 for 37 years and believe it or not, also forgot to take my lantus last night. I very recently (three days ago) started splitting my dose due to doctor's recommendation so it's only half a dose I missed.
Avatar n tn I take my bolld sugars of a morning fasting and they are like 167-191, I take 1000 mg of janumet and 18 units of lantus before bed, of a morning I take 20 Units of lantus, 45 mg actos why am I having problems regulating my blood sugars, I also take 7 units of novalog after every meal??? Do you have any other sugustions??
Avatar n tn We can, however, share our type 1 experiences based on our own life experiences in dealing with type 1 diabetes. My daughter is currently on the insulin pump and only goes on Lantus/Humalog when her pump is malfunctioning. Thankfully (for us), this hasn't happened in so long that I cannot remember what the formula is to calculate the lantus.
Avatar n tn Dear Danielle, As you may know, we are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We are alsmo most versed in Type 1 diabetes, based on our personal experiences. Be sure to check out whatever you read here or elsewhere on the Internet with a physician who knows your husband's particulars. My first suggestion is that you be sure to work with an Endocrinologist and not a 'GP' for treatment of diabetes. An endocrinologist is a specialist who treats this type of disease.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with type one 3 weeks ago. I have noticed that no matter what I do the lantus stings after I inject it before I go to bed. Is this common? Is there any tricks anyone has learned that has helped them?
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn Continuing to give shots in the same location can build up scar tissues and make it more painful. My brother is also Type 1, he also uses Lantus, and he primarily uses his stomach for injection sties because he says it's less painful. There are also several different techniques to giving shots. Is she injecting too quickly? That much insulin being pushed into the skin too quickly can also cause pain.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but the mom of a type 1 child. I would check with your endocrinologist or CDE. The peak times that are in the package, are the averages, each person is different. Some people the insulin might last 20 hours others 24. I would check with your doctor on how to adjust your insulin to avoid the highs and lows. For example, Humalog is supposed to peak in 2 hours. In my daughter it seems to peak in 3 hours.
Avatar n tn 7, 1:9 and 1:18 so I take one unit of insulin for every 7, 9 or 18 carbs.) I would suggest also the book Using Insulin by John Walsh.
Avatar n tn Hello handsome, I am one of the volunteers here and a mother of a child living with type 1. My son who is 10 was diagnosed at age 3. Also, my sister was diagnosed at age 24. (9 yrs.ago) 1)Where can i find up-to-date true research updates on diabetes? I would go to JDRF's main page and sign up for their newsletter, as well as reading some information pertaining to research. http://jdrf.org/ This page below is another one you should check out.
Avatar n tn I assume you get regularly tested for thyroid to make sure that isn't the cause of your weight gain and you don't need an adjustment in thyroid meds. Insulin doesn't make people gain weight, though sometimes people lose weight when initially diagnosed with very high numbers and when their blood sugar gets under control they continue eating the same way and gain weight. Another cause of weight gain in Type 1's is insulin resistance.
Avatar n tn I recently read on here somewhere that Lantus is usually given at bedtime because it lasts 18-24 hours and that by the time it is dwindling the dinner injection is given kind of as the bridge between the first Lantus injection and the next one the following evening. Thus making a steady regimen. However I quite frequently fail to give myself injections at dinner. I am just careless sometimes.
Avatar n tn I have been type 1 diabetic for 24 years now (female), and I am using lantus(once a day) and humalog(3 times) for the last 5 years. between bedtime and breakfast I am having a drop in BGs of around 10-13 mmols. and then in the mornings, after breakfast BGs shoot up, so my normal carb-insulin ratio doesnt work well. I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour.
1461465 tn?1285865061 Another bit of left field input. It is interesting to me that your husband is doing well on only Lantus and Metformin which is a type 2 oral med. Most type 1's need a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals as well or they are high two hours after eating (over 140). You don't say how long your husband has been diagnosed, he could still be in his honeymoon period. But if he is overweight you might want to clarify that he is not, in fact type 2. (antibody tests would confirm).
