Lantus insulin glargine side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus insulin glargine side effects

lantus

Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
Avatar f tn I would continue to use insulin glargine, a recombinent insulin analogue (Lantus) without concern. This was the recommendation in the British Journal Lancet Vol 1, 374 issue 9649 p511-513 15 August 2009. The media has produced some fear based upon five studies that I have read, and used some statistical manipulation that would have failed me in "statistics one" in the eighth grade. The experimental protocols were pretty crummy.
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
726890 tn?1231163286 "My GP states this is normal and will eventually pass." It appears you are experiencing well known severe sides effects of Lantus. Have you spoken with your endo about your discomfort and other options? Go here and read "before taking insulin Glargine (Lantus)" http***www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a600027.html See if this applies to you.
Avatar f tn Montefiori Medical Center (Bronx, New York) performed an in-depth study of 240 women receiveing Lantus (insulin glargine) during pregnancy. The results were published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, April, 2009 (4) 208-10. They found the drug to be well-tolerated and advised continuing the use of Lantus during pregnancy. PubMed has no studies whatsoever that substantiate an adverse affect on pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar n tn Hi Dawn, Pizza can be tough to estimate, more because the carb content can vary so much from slice to slice and pizza to pizza. But although I'm just a mom like you, and not a doctor, it sounds like it's not just pizza causing high blood sugar. You didn't say what sort of long-lasting insulin she's on-- is it Novalin? Or Lantus/glargine? If you haven't tried Lantus (aka glargine) yet, I would strongly recommend talking to your endo about it.
Avatar f tn All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. These are the most COMMON side effects of Lantus. Redness, swelling, itching, or mild pain at the injection site.
Avatar n tn My blood sugars are out of whack and it just seems to be impossible to get them back to normal! I have just started taking glargine/lantus...but the control is still bad. Also, for those that have the pump...how is it and how has it affected your life style?
Avatar f tn Lantus (insulin Glargine) is a very SLOW release insulin, a so-called "24-hour" insulin. Because it does not rapidly alter glucose levels it is safe to use when driving. It isn't adviseable to increase the dose of Metformin. Other insulins have the tendency to rapidly (comparatively) alter levels of conscious and situational awareness. It is often prescribed together with Metformin and Glipozide. I would also hazard a guess that weight control is an issue.
Avatar f tn i was treated with himulin 30/70 insulin for a years and usually my fasting sugar is high (200-400) and now my new doctor give me lantus and apidra insulin instead of himulin insulin and now my fasting sugar reaches to 215 not exceeded. Are lantus and apidra combatable for me?? and what are the side effects of them??????????
Avatar m tn as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
Avatar n tn if you use too much insulin you can get hypos that said ive had no other side effects i have been on insulin for 17 years
Avatar n tn Lantus works by crystalizing under ths skin. The "other" 24 hour insulin is Levemir, by Novo-Nordisk. It does not crystalize, but attains it's 24 hour effect another way. If you are haing difficulty with Lantus, you have every right to ask to try an equivalent alternitive. If your doctor has a reson why he thinks this is not advisable, he will tell you. The switch from Lantus to Levemir for me required no dose adjustment, and it performed just as well as Lantus.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
1041656 tn?1253394619 There are a number of insulin related drugs on the market with varying degrees of side effects. Since you kept your medications [injectable & oral] a secret from us it's impossible to answer your question. However, you can perform your own research investigation by Googling the name of the drug followed by the words "side effects" [w/o the " "].
Avatar f tn m given RX for those, which I take for a short while, and decide that the side effects are worse than the tremors. Well this summer the tremors became really bad and a whole lot of other symptoms started too. In brief, the symptoms were ALL of the things you would feel if you became hypo BUT I have had high BS (200's) all summer too. I've experimented off and on all summer and definitely know that these symptoms occur on the days I take Novolg.
915277 tn?1252573113 Anyone out there on Lantus, and have you heard about this and will you stop using Lantus due to this news?? What bothers me about this news is that the study seems a bit shaky...but, I also feel, where there is smoke, can fire be far behind?? I, myself, am thinking of changing to Levemir, at least until the experts decide what to do. Only because, I have enough health problems, if I can save myself some anguish, I think I will...What's your take on this issue??
Avatar n tn The other girl who wrote to me was having severe headaches and chest pains with Lantus, so the side effects for each of us have been very different. She is also having higher blood pressure readings since switching to Levemir and that was what caused me to give up that one also. At least there are some older insulins to fall back on, but I am beginning to wonder what is in them as well. Hope this is helpful or at least thought provoking.
Avatar m tn com If you click on the Message board for Lantus glargine insulin, it will bring you to the message board on Lantus. I'm getting ready to take my kitty to the Vet for a dental, so won't have too much more time here. I'll try and get this other link directly to Lantus message board. I give Maggie Lantus every 12 hours, The links are hard for me to figure out how to post here, but here it is: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?
