Lantus injection sites

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus injection sites

lantus

Avatar n tn you can take them at the same time in different injection sites but do not mix them. Says so rite on the Lantus warning label.
Avatar n tn Hi, you want to do a subcutaneous injection, not an intramuscular injection. Certainly you can do it in your legs, but you need to 'pinch and inch' Ie. lift up the skin to inject. Use a shorter needled. The only way to find out if this works for you is to try it. Other sites to inject includes butt, arms (usually the soft under the arm part, etc).
Avatar n tn Well, in regards to the injection site, my Mom has been using her arm, as her Doctor told her that by using your stomach, the fat tissue can cause the insulin to not be released into the body properly, causing it to not work as well. Also, my Mmom has tried all three injection sites, Leg, Arm, and Stomach. She bruises so easily in those areas, but not as badly in her arm.
Avatar n tn Because excess heat can activate Lantus post injection, patients are being warned against things such as saunas and hot tubs due to the possibility of severe hypoglycemia. But I've also seen 'hot showers' included as well. I've been wondering - how hot is 'hot'? In the winter I'm always freezing, and a hot shower was great before bed. I've been hesitant to enjoy such a pleasure since starting Lantus though.
Avatar m tn Larry, I would recommend that you make an appointment with a diabetes educator so he/she can watch your technique, injection sites, etc. as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
Avatar n tn t see mentioned, yet, is the possibility that your son might need to find some new injection sites, or possibly do a better job of rotating injection sites. It is well known that overused injection sites can eventually cause poor absorption of injected insulin, resulting in poor control of blood sugar levels. After many years of injections, some areas may we worn out. You should consider this and try injections in areas of the body that have not previously been used.
Avatar f tn I seemed to be gaining a lot of weight since being on Lantus for the last two years as well I have mood swings and irritability and now started having severe lows right after injecting the Lantus (it usually happens if I bleed after my shot and has happened since switching to the Solostar disposable pen needle. Anyone else have any bad reactions to the Lantus.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else experiencing this. I think I really need some more injection sites to use besides the abdomen and the upper legs.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Avatar n tn Even thou i hate the reactions from fast acting insulin. Lantus works ok i guess, was worried at first about hitting blood on an injection due to it's a 24 hr. insulin.
Avatar f tn You can use both Novalog and Lantus, but not in the same syringe and not at the same injection site. Lantus is usually administered at night to bring your glucose levels down to normal in the morning. If you have abnormal glucose levels at bedtime, one philosophy is to bring them down to normal using a small amount of short acting insulin and then use the lantus to make sure they will be normal in the morning.
Avatar f tn Hi Malli52! Can I suggest trying a couple of things? First I'd definitely be doing several days worth of 3am bg checks, just to be on the safe side. The more bg information you have, the better you'll be at arriving at the correct insulin dosage for you. Also, I'd discuss with your endo, switching your PM lantus to an AM injection.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that no matter what I do the lantus stings after I inject it before I go to bed. Is this common? Is there any tricks anyone has learned that has helped them?
Avatar f tn Was prescribed Lantus 1yr and half ago and for all that time I was telling various doctors and the pharmacy that my sense of smell had been altered that all perfume smelt terrible. I even posted this on the internet. Also that my face cheeks get rash. All the Doctors and Pharmacies ignored me saying they had never heard of such a side effect. Further to much worse facial rash I insisted to go off the Lantus and get something else.
Avatar n tn If you are injecting Lantus as your long-lasting insulin, and are injecting it in the morning, the Lantus will probably wear off between 20-24 hours after injection, causing glucose levels to rise in the morning until that morning's dose can kick in and cover it. You need insulin whether you eat or not, for a normal body produces and uses small amounts of insulin all day long, not just when we eat. That's why we take the long-lasting insulins -- to cover a base need for insulin.
Avatar m tn Do not dilute Lantus and do not mix Lantus with any other type of insulin. And, do not switch to another brand or type of insulin or change the dose or dosage time of any type of insulin you are using without first talking to your doctor.
Avatar n tn I recently read on here somewhere that Lantus is usually given at bedtime because it lasts 18-24 hours and that by the time it is dwindling the dinner injection is given kind of as the bridge between the first Lantus injection and the next one the following evening. Thus making a steady regimen. However I quite frequently fail to give myself injections at dinner. I am just careless sometimes.
Avatar n tn if you need to take units of novalog but doctor want you to take lantus too is that ok to take both at same time
Avatar f tn It is a once a week injection that I take along with my daily Metformin and nightly Lantus injection. It has worked really well over the past year. Has anyone else used it? Others I have spoken with have never heard of it. And on top of that, I spoke with a customer service rep at Brystol-Myers who said it was not intended to be used with insulin.
Avatar n tn Now he is reacting to the nickel in the stainless steel of his insulin needles, and is developing hives at his injection sites. I have contacted several syringe manufacturers but have not been able to find any that make a nickel-free needle. In fact, some needles are actually nickel-coated. An insulin pump is not an option for us. Our insurance will not pay for it, plus Sean takes karate 5x/week (not good to get kicked in an insulin pump, right?
Avatar n tn Believe it or not, this happened to me yesterday. I take 85 units of Lantus in the am, and I think I hit a vein. As the injection went in, I didn't get the "burn", and I could taste it in my mouth. About a half hour later, I started to crash....450 grams of carbs later, I got my sugar up to about 200. It settled down a little later to about 140. As an RN, I should know better to pull back on the syringe to check for blood return before injecting. I was in a hurry...
1353681 tn?1387083733 Insurance forced me transition from Lantus to Levemir in February, and I haven't seen any difference in effectiveness. I am only taking one injection before bed, and it's worked just as well as Lantus in keeping my morning numbers in range. The biggest difference I noticed was that Lantus would burn every time I injected and Levemir does not.
Avatar n tn My Dr gave me a vial (not a pen) of Lantus to see if I perfered it that way. I forgot it in my pocket for six hours. Is it ruined?
Avatar n tn I have been type 1 diabetic for 24 years now (female), and I am using lantus(once a day) and humalog(3 times) for the last 5 years. between bedtime and breakfast I am having a drop in BGs of around 10-13 mmols. and then in the mornings, after breakfast BGs shoot up, so my normal carb-insulin ratio doesnt work well. I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour.
