Lantus blood sugar log

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus blood sugar log

lantus

Avatar n tn For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours. In terms of being hungry, have you checked your blood sugar when you are feeling so hungry? Maybe you're low. If that's the case, maybe you can lower the amount Lantus or Levemir.
Avatar n tn I found that I would become high after dinner so I would take more Humalog, however, this would make me crave sugar and sweets, it would drop my blood sugar levels, and it seemed like I was eating more just to make sure that I was safe...then I would spike from the sugar and have to start all over again with more insulin. I found that it made it very difficult to maintain my weight despite exercising regularly which was a huge source of frustration for me.
Avatar n tn The Symogi effect is the tendency of the blood sugar to rise as a result of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can trigger release of hormones such as glucagon that raise blood sugar. The liver would normally respond to declining blood sugar by increasing glycogenolysis, as I discussed above. But insulin inhibits glycogenolysis, and as you may have observed, low blood sugar occurs most often near an insulin peak.
Avatar n tn I do keep a detailed log of my blood sugar levels (What I ate, what I did, etc..), and as I mentioned, I watch what I eat and I am not overweight and very active.
Avatar n tn I am proud to say her blood sugar has been within range every time I have checked over past 5 days. Except... Her blood sugar has tested low all four times I tested either while she was in bath or just out. She has tested between 57 and 68. Is anyone aware of "wrinkled fingers" from exposure to water causing low blood sugar readings? Her bath is just luke warm not REAL hot.
Icecream It is also important to know what to do when you recognize signs of low blood sugar. I suggest you have your blood sugar meter near so you can check things out if you feel this way. Low blood sugar is typically defined as a reading below 70mg/dL so have something handy (orange juice) or other quick sugar sources to quickly raise your blood sugar and follow that sugar burst by having a meal or at least a piece of toast. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn I have just switched from Mixtard/Actrapid to Lantus/Actrapid 3 days ago due to very poor blood sugar control at night and in the morning. The current dosage of Lantus is 15 units in the morning with additional 15 units of Actrapic before evety meal i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner. Blood sugar level in the morning shoots up to 15-16mmol (fasting), by noon it will remain at 9-12mmol (before lunch) and will gradually comes down to 4-5mmol before dinner.
Avatar f tn (stent placement) I am currently taking Metformin 1000 mg x 2 twice daily, plus Lantus Solostar, 27 units. When I began the insulin, my blood glucose was over 400! Now it is down between 200 - 230 in the morning. They want to put me on a different type of insulin to take with meals. I don't want to do that. Is there anything I can do to lower my blood sugar naturally without taking more insulin?
Avatar m tn Diabetes is a disease where the body does not proses carbohydrates properly resulting in high blood sugar (BG). lantus is a background insulin, lasts about 24 hours. lantus just keeps you idling along. When you eat carbs it raises BG as your body digests the food. so you need insulin to lower your BG the same way that food raises BG. When you eat or when your BG is too high you need to take insulin that is faster acting than Lantus.
Avatar f tn Have you tested your blood sugar? The only "side effects" of missing your doses would be high blood sugar.
Avatar n tn His blood sugar at 9pm was 155 I gave him the Lantus as ordered. At 2am he was shaky, sweaty, and weak.was the Lantus dose to much for his blood sugar level?I should mention he ate supper late 7pm.I'm wondering if I gave it to close to thr humolog dose before supper.
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar f tn Even if my sugar is good before bed and I take my lantus it is always high in the morning. Any reason and any advise?
Avatar n tn You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night. But since my blood sugar always drops at night, it caused a lot of lows for me. I switched to taking it in the morning and everything works better now. My nephew's blood sugar also drops at night.
Avatar n tn I too have had a couple of bad low sugar episodes... But not from Lantus, but from mistaking my Humalog pen for my Lantus pen. They are not exactly easy to tell apart when you are tired (I take it at night). I was taking 16 units, so imagine the same of Humalog! Wow! Cram those glucose tabs!!! On a pump now (or rather the pod) for the past couple days. Harder to goof up.
Avatar n tn This only resulted in the same 9am sugar, and a lower 1pm sugar. I have tried decreasing my Lantus the night before, thinking that its too much, because my sugars are decreasing throghout the day. This didn't change anything. On a non-school day, I didn't notice my sugars reducing during the day, so I don't believe that my Lantus dosage is incorrect. The only thing I can think of that can cause this low sugar at 1pm is the absorbtion rate of my Novolog from breakfast.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Avatar f tn Do NOT dilute or mix Lantus® with any other insulin or solution. It will not work as intended and you may lose blood sugar control, which could be serious. Lantus® must only be used if the solution is clear and colorless with no particles visible.
Avatar m tn The proper dose of lantus is the one that controls your blood sugar. IF your blood sugar fasting is 270 then you need to increase your lantus dose. Ideally your fasting glucose will be in the 80 - 100 range). Your dr allowing you to have a blood sugar of 180 before taking medications is also keeping you consistently high. Typically people with diabetes will have a correction factor to bring blood sugars down to target.
Avatar n tn I find that it is pretty much impossible to drop severely low in that period of time with Lantus, if the dosage is correct and the last blood test was normal. It could be that the oral meds plus the Lantus are too much for him and his dosage needs to be adjusted. If it is happening often, have him test frequently for awhile and write down the results to he has a record of the patterns. Then he needs to work with his doctor to perhaps lower the dosage of one of the medicines.
Avatar m tn The blood sugar numbers you provide show your levels to be running slightly elevated most of the time. Normal blood sugar is 65-110. The goal of your treatment is to keep your blood sugar within those limits at all times. I would suggest that you speak with your endocrinologist about how best to adjust your diet and insulin to maintain your blood sugar within normal limits.
