Lamotrigine reaction

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine reaction

lamictal

Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if anyone has ever has an adverse reaction to Lamotrigine i.e. breaking out in rash, very itchy, red patches all over skin? I'm afraid to try other drugs due to this? Any suggestions? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Lamotrigine 25 mg, Zyrtec, Levothyroxine 75mg, and Atenolol 50mg. I started Lamotrigine (lamictal generic) 2 weeks ago. On day 9, I developed severe diarrhea and cramps. It was slowed down with 1 pill of Immodium, but after 2 days I decided to eat a "regular" meal and got diarrhea again. So it's been on an off for 6 days, and this morning it was worse than it was the first day!
Avatar m tn If you have had a better reaction to the brand version of a medication than a generic it would be essential to let your psychiatrist know that. If you have always been on the generic it most likely is the medication itself but you could discuss this with your psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn I have not heard about this reaction but I'm going to do some research as you've aroused my curiosity. I suggest you post this in the Ask A Doctor forum - Dr. Gould - for his opinion, too. I'm also going to ask my psychiatrist when I see him in July about this subject. I'm assuming that you were treated for severe depression - resistant to antidepressant therapy? You could also search under google - Dr.
Avatar m tn I had about 10 depressive episodes in 2-3 years and they stopped completely when I started lamotrigine (well, apart from the one, but it was work related). You probably already know lamotrigine (Lamictal) works better for the depression side more than the manic side.
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. From http://epilepsy.med.nyu.edu/treatment/medications/lamotrigine "Lamotrigine has no effect on other seizure medicines. And unlike some other seizure medicines, it does not reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Avatar f tn Ive been on Klonopin for 2 months now and it has helped a lot with my anxiety. But it doesn't seem to be helping me with my mood swings. I'm very against SSRI's though I've been given prescriptions for Zoloft and Celexa, tried neither. I was prescribed Seroquel and it was horrible. I was also prescribed Risperdal but was hesitant to try it due to the reaction I had with the Seroquel.
Avatar f tn i was just wanting to know if lamotrigine and quetiapine can cause sore throats I've been taking these meds for 4 days and I started getting sick after day 2
1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar f tn Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take lamotrigine when u have hepatitis c? My psychiatrist just started me on 25 mg..is it safe for my liver..I'm not being treated for my hep c..any info will help..
Avatar n tn I´ve been taking 200 mg of lamotrigine for a while -about 3 years. But. My swinging moods along the year have not really changed. My doctor insists in the 200 mg. doses. I´m esceptic. Conclusion: I´m about to drop lamotrigine and start all over again. I´m a natural optimistic. Thanks for answering.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn I HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL( lamotrigine) (FOR YEARS. NEVER MESS AROUND WITH THIS DRUG. IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.
Avatar m tn Lamotrigine has been successful in controlling rapid cycling and mixed bipolar states in people who have not received adequate relief from lithium, carbamazepine and/or valproate. It also appears that lamotrigine has significantly more antidepressant potency than either carbamazepine or valproate. Lamotrigine is also useful as part of the treatment of some people with major (unipolar) depression.
Avatar f tn The reaction may not happen with other medications, or maybe a different class of medications like a mood stabilizer like lamotrigine. Which is a lot less harsh on the system and doesn't have such long term effects, but is more for the ups and downs and won't help much with psychosis. If she has psychosis, probably going to end up on some sort of antipsychotic. The drug companies are pushing Abilify for bipolar but it isn't always the answer.
1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn Havent been in the sun. Ive been taking lamotrigine for about 2 weeks and I know its associated with some serious rashes. Went to GP when the rash wasnt this bad and she said its probably something viral and possibly the medication, talk to the person who prescribed the lamotrgine. Finally got a hold of prescribing nurse practioner who, over the phone, said to stop taking it and just take benedryl, it will be gone by this weekend. Benedryl is putting me to sleep but not doing anything.
899491 tn?1243773627 How are you feeling about quitting the Lamotrigine? Was it working for you otherwise? Are they gonna switch you to something else? Man, I hope you feel better soon, and the rash doesn't progress into Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Sending many positive thoughts your way.
