Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine generic problems

lamictal

Avatar f tn I found this: (Lamotrigine is the generic name) "16. How does lamotrigine interact with prescription and over-the-counter medications? Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood.
Avatar m tn I take 200 mg of the generic, Lamotrigine but I have taken as much as 400mg. I have never had a problem with mania from it. However, lamotrigine works best in keeping depression away and does little in deterring mania. The mania you have been having may have nothing to do with lamotrigine but because it doesn't do anything for it when it comes on. Other mood stabilizers, like lithium and Depakote work well for mania. I would discuss the option of adding one of them to the lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn In the U.S., if there is a generic for a drug and not being on the name brand won't cause problems, they usually write the Rx for the generic so the pharmacy that fills the order knows it's ok with the doctor to give the generic, otherwise the pharmacy has to call and check with the doctor to make sure it's ok to give the generic, which is a waste of everyone's time.
3140085 tn?1342843508 Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.
Avatar f tn Looking for people who can relate to my husband and have a similar story to tell? My husband has been on Lamotrigine for a while now. On 7/30/2019 the brand of his lamotrigine was changed by the pharmacy from Zydus to Unichem. I asked the pharmacy if this would cause an issue and they stated they were the same. However, 21 days after starting this new brand he had a grandmal seizure in our car. We are grateful he is alive and was not injured. In addition no one else was hurt or injured.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed as being bipolar. The prescription that he got was a generic form of Lamictal. I visited him today & saw the pill bottle, it says "41" but there were only 9 pills left in the container. The date was Dec. 19 - that's only been 7 days ago & it says to take "1 for the lst 7 days & then take 2 a day". I asked him why there were so few in the bottle & he said the pharmacy didn't have enough to fill the entire prescription.
Avatar m tn I wonder why you are writing the generic names of drugs. I know quetiapine the generic of seroquel appeared lately this year as Astra zeneca doesn't possess the patent anymore but the brand lamictal still exists for lamotrigine. Sometimes the brand name is more potent but usually the generics are cheaper i suppose.
1576249 tn?1296087202 Lamotrigine is the generic for Lamictal.... I am also on Lamotrigine but because it its better known as its non-generic form i referred to it as Lamictal.
552012 tn?1272855991 Why are the prices on Lamictal (lamotrigine) so expensive in the US? I'll tell you why. Drug companies! My daughter is waiting for her health insurance to kick in from her job and was running low. She got 2 weeks filled at $5 a pill!!!! This is WALMART and GENERIC!!!! $5 a freaking pill!!!! I got them from a pharmacy in Canada for her for $1.05 a pill ! 60 for 105 dollars!!!!! Those of you worried about Obama being socialistic...tell me...what has capitalism done for you lately???
Avatar f tn Thyroid issues can mimick bipolar symptoms that is why they always say to get it checked out if you are having problems. If this is the first time you have ever had any problems with depression or mood I would get a second opinion. Usually people with bipolar have a history of mood episodes before being diagnosed. Just taking prozac when they say you are bipolar is bad medicine. SSRI's can make bipolar worse, especially if that is all you are being given.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
574118 tn?1305135284 I always wondered about whether a difference exists between the brand name and the generic form of a drug. My body failed to accept lamotrigine for example and wondered had i not taken lamictal say etc... so it seems there is a difference, here it is: http://blogs.psychcentral.
Avatar m tn ve been on norg-eth estra tri (I think the generic of Trinessa? Trisprintec? So many names for birth controls...) for years now, but have had issues with breakthrough bleeding as of the last few months. Thus, my doctor, who is also my GYN, prescribed a different brand. On Sunday the 21st of December I began Lomedia Fe with iron pills for the last few days of my AF. Now, I'm also on the generic of Lamictal, which is Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn I take Depakote before i got pregnant and was taking prenatals just in case. Then when me and my husband found out i was pregnant, i was switched to Lamotrigine which is the safest for pregnant women with seizures. I know its really hard for us women with seizures now that we are carrying a life inside, we need to be extra careful. I understand you...
Avatar f tn One of the mood stabilizers like lamotrigine, lithium, of valproate you may find helpful. Ziprexa is also a good one for many people but does cause a lot of weight gain but the weight gain does level off once you are on the drug for a while and it is very expensive but you can get assistance through the company to pay for it if needed. If you can you need to go and see a psychiatrist so they can help you with medications.
Avatar f tn t even tried them.I agree that you need a mood stabilizer first. I take Lamictal, generic (lamotrigine) and it works well for me. I also take an antidepressant. I disagree that SSRI or SNRI should never be taken. Without an antidepressant I become suicidal. I'd rather take a chance of cycling than dying. I have gone through several SSRIs and SNRIs and now am on an MAOI, which is an old antidepressant and not used that much.
Avatar m tn Since I am not sure what the branded names are for these in India, here are the generic names for the most common anti-epileptics for seizures of the gelastic type: carbamazepine, clobazam, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine and topiramate. These medications rarely stop the seizures completely but reduce the frequency and severity of them. I hope this helps, my prayers are with you and your son.
925572 tn?1246540031 DOCTOROFMIND a psychiatrist on youtube said recently in a video there are a couple of safe psych meds for pregnancy, it wasn't one of them however and he only listed prozac and haldol although NAMI's website says prozac possibly causes serious birth problems and as for haldol it says you should tell your doctor if you're pregnant but says nothing about special precautions with pregnancy. Hell he doesn't even like prescribing meds unless he absolutely has to.
899491 tn?1243773627 If you took 100 mg. more it would be a serious matter. They can advise you how to proceed. If your doctor isn't available speak to your pharmacist.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. From http://epilepsy.med.nyu.edu/treatment/medications/lamotrigine "Lamotrigine has no effect on other seizure medicines. And unlike some other seizure medicines, it does not reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Avatar f tn I HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL( lamotrigine) (FOR YEARS. NEVER MESS AROUND WITH THIS DRUG. IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.
