lamictal

Avatar n tn Can I take chantix if currently taking lamotrigine (150 mg 2x daily) for epilepsy (petit-mal)
1114269 tn?1258684512 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn Since for us driven manic by AD, if you beat depression without an AD then no more depression for start the first face of the coin, and by not taking an AD then no second face too i.e. no mania. So by not having neither depression nor mania then no BP. Simple. I also demanded from the forum to start looking for an AD that doesn't bring mania. Although nobody came to rescue me by suggesting one, i tried in the meantime lexapro/cipralex, seroxat/paxil/ some tricyclics, stablon/coaxil etc..
1806584 tn?1316211637 By the way, the standard dosage for Lamictal is 200 mg. It may help with your depression if you up the Lamictal. Just a thought. Take care.
Avatar n tn I could be everything, but a psychiatrist. But for the anxiety and also for the angst clonazepam can get to be very usefull. And for the mood variations between depression and anxiety there's a mood stabilizer (Untill now, I haven't had any side effects, but that can variate from person to person, of course) that also has a mild effect as an anti-depressant wich name is lamotrigine. But, anyway, you may consult and talk seriously with you terapist/psychiatrist about that.
899491 tn?1243777227 Then I have days like today that I feel real irritable. Is that depression or mania still lurking around? Here's my dosage regimens so far. My first two week my doc put on Lamotrigine 25 mg x one per day Last monday he put me on 25mg x two per day for two weeks. June 1st I have a appointment again....most likely increase my dosage again. How much will I take of Lamotrigine before I feel my normal self again?
Avatar f tn the dopiness mentioned was more of a drugged out stupor for me and only occurred at dosage changes. Tingling in the fingers or toes lessens over time; occasionally have bad days. I do tend to have numbness in the tips of my fingers most of the time. These things I've gotten use to. What I've finally discovered from reading here, is the cause of the hair loss which was extreme over the last six months.

980052 tn?1262970679 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed back in 2000, while living in CA, and knowing something was not right was liberating for me. My psychiatrist told me that often, a low level depression often follows an adult with ADD and prescribed Welbutrin once a day. I was also put on Neurontin and Dexadrine. At that point, all hell broke loose and I got worse. Rambled when talking or writing, and my ability to finish tasks got worse. So he put me on Klonapin to moderate the affects of the speed. I was a mess.
202665 tn?1248810333 I saw the listing for lamotrigine just after I sent the original request. thanks. Regarding the dosage question - since depression medications/dosage is not an exact science yet, the meds and dosages change pretty often when you first go on them until you hit a balance. i know mine changed about every two weeks for the first couple of months and I was tracking the med and dosage myself along with my moods to review with the doctor.
Avatar m tn There are several of us on here who have a similar eye complaint: seeing a bright flash, like the afterimage of a flash bulb, when we blink, and sometimes, on upgaze. This is transient symptom for most of us, lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. When the "spot" in our visual field passes over a dark background, the spot appears light. When the spot passes over a light background, it appears dark.
574118 tn?1305138884 And mixed states, mania and depression at the same time, are the highest risk for suicide. Pure depression can leave people without the energy to actually go through with suicide, but adding in the manic energy can create the perfect storm. Wellbutrin on average is LESS likely to make people manic, but there are always exceptions. Abilify is mood stabilizing, and is not an AD (many people think it is due to marketing)--it's an atypical antipsychotic.
1310468 tn?1274867525 I have been on lamotrigine for just over a year, my vivid dreams can be very scary. They have started in the last 6 weeks. My doctor says that I am most likely having episodes of delirium. I have had to get tests done to find out, still waiting for the results. I also may be having absence seizures, for me this has been very hard as I thought that for me I had finally found the right medication. But it may not be. So I guess everyone does reacts differently.
Avatar m tn I have not had any trouble taking Lamotrigine 250mg BID for atypical seizures. Methylphenidate 20mg BID commonly called Ritalin, prescribed for concentration issues. I have taken these for well over 2 years now with no indication of petite mal or grand mal seizures, or seizures of any kind. My ability to concentrate has increased dramatically. I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Ambien for 5 years now and take anywhere from 20-30mg, plus Lamotrigine for Depression, Ropinirole for RLS, and a few others. The Ambien does not work well for me anymore and this past month my insomnia has escalated. In addition to the RLS I have body jolts, hallucinations while I'm falling asleep, and these electrical zapping sensations throughout my body.
574118 tn?1305138884 Will I go back to depression? My question if someone is OK on some dosage is that alright or it will have to go up eventually. Again, suppose it will continue OK like this, is this medically wrong ? and no matter what dose is OK for me my illness will worsen unless i reach the 100mg at least. To put it differently, for the better sake of my BP so that it doesn't worsen with time should I use a therapeutic dose irrespective of what I feel.
1220347 tn?1345432121 I'm still depressed even while taking the maximum dosage of lexapro, and I still have fast mood swings, and even though I'm only taking half the maximum dosage, my regular doctor, who isn't experienced in depression, is afraid that if I increase the dosage, I might suffer from side effects (are there even any?). Anyways, my doctor suggested I make an appointment with a psychiatrist, which I will, to see if I have better options when it comes to the meds.
Avatar n tn For treatment of bipolar disorder: Adults not taking valproic acid (e.g., Depakote) and not taking carbamazepine (e.g., Tegretol), phenobarbital (e.g., Luminal), phenytoin (e.g., Dilantin), and/or primidone (e.g., Mysoline)—At first, 25 milligrams (mg) of lamotrigine once a day for two weeks, then a total of 50 each day for two weeks. After this, your doctor may increase the dose gradually if needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 200 mg a day.
Avatar f tn I was on it for years and found it quite helpful (had to quit because it gave me the shakes). One often reads that Lamotrigine works better for depression than for hypomania. So in the end it is also possible that Lithium may turn out to be effective for you. Do keep in close touch with your pdoc.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the responses! Ill just enjoy it whiler I have it then! And hopefully if will just get better and better and better! Now, if I had something for my awful memory! I use to have a very sharp memory. But my STM has went straight down-hill in the last few years.
574118 tn?1305138884 thanks Narnia tegretol is still used in UK along with the other commonwealth countries not in the USA only rarely because of interactivity. lamictal i use for BP depression but because i used a cipralex for a while yesterday i had a mixed states. So i am confused whether it's from the AD or lamictal. I guess from the AD. I had stopped it 2 days ago. with lamictal contrary to tegretol for whichg you need regular blood tests it doesn't so it's safer i suppose.
Avatar m tn My understanding is lamotrigine isn't as good for the highs as depakote or lithium. Most of the antipsychotics will have the same weight gain effects, and have more long term effects like metabolic syndrome and diabetes. It may also just be the dosage is too high. Sometimes even a little bit less of a dose will lessen the flattening without wrecking the clinical aspects. It also wouldn't hurt to add Omega Oils to the mix. I take 2000mg a day and really notice a difference.
918275 tn?1254072352 I know it's hard right now. It sounds like you haven't found the right meds for your depression or they haven't had time to work yet. Unfortunately, a lot of bipolar meds cause weight gain. Try to exercise as much as you can (this is good for depression too!). My husband and I just got the Wii Fit (a video game) that helps you exercise. Anything that gets you moving!! I used to think that exercise couldn't help with depression, but I have found that it does help.
1699382 tn?1307607315 For me birthcontrol levels out my moods, but I have heard of others for whom it is a problem. If you take lamotrigine (Lamictal) it can interfere with Estrogen based birthcontrol pills, so unless you want to be a momma progesterone based pills may be a better choice. Too for some of them you take them all the time so you don't get a period. That is a plus for me!
Avatar n tn I'm 17 y/o and 2months ago I was diagnosed with bipolar, schizophrenia and psychosis. I'm not really sure what exactly schizophrenia and psychosis are but I am taking lamotrigine as a mood stabilizer. I never really noticed my mood swings until they started getting more dramatic so I asked my mother for help. I thought I would be getting better but I find myself getting extremely agitated and angry for minimal to no reason whatsoever.
Avatar f tn Klonopin compliments Lamotrigine and is controling my bi[polar well. I tried to get off of it for an experiement to see how I was doing.
