Lamotrigine dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine dosage

lamictal

1114269 tn?1258680912 I was diagnosed as bipolar type 2 back in June 2005, and since then have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) on an increasing dosage. I have been at the max dosage that my doctor said is allowed (350 mg/day). So that means over 4 years that I've been taking this drug. I have found that since taking lamictal, my depression has all but vanished, but it does not control my manic behavior at all. So as an anti-depressant, I think it's very effective for me.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've had PNH for over 20 years and for the last 10 years or so the most effective dose was 400mg lamotrigine per day. But annoyingly it's got worse these past few months and I had to increase the dosage. I was discharged at Walton Centre in Liverpool several years ago but feel I'd like a new opinion. Does anyone know who or where new testing and research is taking place in the UK?
Avatar f tn Hello, The normal reference ranges for lamotrigine are 2 – 20 ug/mL during chronic therapy. Detecting drug levels in the blood help in proper seizure control and reduction of side effects of the drug. It helps us in identifying whether the drug is in a therapeutic range or not. The decision of dosage adjustments depends on the doctor’s discretion and varies person to person. Do write to us again with more information. Take care and good luck!
202665 tn?1248806733 * For real value, a user should have a drop down on the medications that allow you to select a dosage. You could do this in 5mg increments and go from 5-200. If someone is on mutiple medications - or even one - this would allow them to track there 'mood' according to the level of medication or combination they are trying. They could use this information to present to their healthcare provider when discussing treatment.
Avatar n tn It is important to know your detailed medical history, history of seizures and drug dosage and test results before advising you. It is advisable to consult your attending neurologist and discuss your concerns. Do write to me again on how you are doing. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn ve just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I take Depakote before i got pregnant and was taking prenatals just in case. Then when me and my husband found out i was pregnant, i was switched to Lamotrigine which is the safest for pregnant women with seizures. I know its really hard for us women with seizures now that we are carrying a life inside, we need to be extra careful. I understand you...
1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar f tn I HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL( lamotrigine) (FOR YEARS. NEVER MESS AROUND WITH THIS DRUG. IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.
925572 tn?1246540031 hi Malak for the pdoc it's better if you stabilize simply because the baby is of no concern to him, this is i'm afraid the responsibility of another person (your gaenacologist/obstetrician), so forget about what he's trying to convince you abt lamictal that it's is ok while you are pregnant, this is a research you have to do it yourself.
Avatar m tn Long story short I was on lamictal/lamotrigine for a couple years at 300mg per day. I was told to lower the dosage by 50% every week, and it's been 4 weeks now and today is the day I would go down to 30mg per day for a week. However, the 150mg pill can only get so small before it turns to dust, I am having no side effects from the tapering. Would it hurt me to just stop taking it now (at 37.5mg)?
Avatar m tn Ritalin should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients, such as those with a history of drug dependence or alcoholism, because such patients may increase dosage on their own initiative. Chronically abusive use can lead to marked tolerance and psychic dependence with varying degrees of abnormal behavior. Frank psychotic episodes can occur, especially with parenteral abuse.
Avatar f tn I have Bipolar I, and have been experiencing a great deal of relief from Lamictal/Lamotrigine for several years. However, my psychiatrist is starting to raise the dose, and I don't know why. I haven't been with this psychiatrist for very long. I was on the usual dose of 200mg/day; then, she raised it to 400mg/day. I'm not sure I felt much better from raising it, but it's possible, so I wasn't worried. Now, though, she wants to raise it to 600mg/day.

1310468 tn?1274863925 I have been on lamotrigine for just over a year, my vivid dreams can be very scary. They have started in the last 6 weeks. My doctor says that I am most likely having episodes of delirium. I have had to get tests done to find out, still waiting for the results. I also may be having absence seizures, for me this has been very hard as I thought that for me I had finally found the right medication. But it may not be. So I guess everyone does reacts differently.
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar n tn Can you post her last few sets of thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report? What thyroid med was she taking and what was the daily dosage? What symptoms was she having?
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. From http://epilepsy.med.nyu.edu/treatment/medications/lamotrigine "Lamotrigine has no effect on other seizure medicines. And unlike some other seizure medicines, it does not reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Avatar f tn The only things I can tell you are that none of this will happen quickly and that it does take time to get to a therapeutic dose of lamotrigine (Lamictal). When I tried it, I got 6-week starter packs, then after that dosage increases continued to take time. And, on top of the time it takes to build up, it will also take time for it to work. It's unfortunate and none of us like it, but that is simply how many of these drugs work.
Avatar f tn t notice any immediate difference when I started on lamotrigine. The way I understand it, mood stabilisers work much faster than anti-depressants, but they still take at least a week to build up properly. I've been on lithium, epilim and lamotrigine and none of them worked straight away. But that may just be me. My mother found that her mood stabiliser worked straight away.
574118 tn?1305135284 s available where you are, Latuda (lurasidone) just got approval for bipolar depression. It might be too expensive, though. Also, have you tried lamotrigine? Abilify is another good suggestion.
Avatar m tn Around a week ago, I decided to lower my dosage to 150mg. of Lamictal. This is what my psychiatrist had suggested 8 months ago might be capping my happiness. She left town and I had an appointment made with a new guy at a new place this week. About 10 days ago, noticed before the appt my script would run out. So, I had about 2-3 days where I would not be able to take any Lamictal at all. I decided to break down my 200mg pills into about 190mg,180mg... and then about 6-7 150mg. pills.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Lamotrigine 25 mg, Zyrtec, Levothyroxine 75mg, and Atenolol 50mg. I started Lamotrigine (lamictal generic) 2 weeks ago. On day 9, I developed severe diarrhea and cramps. It was slowed down with 1 pill of Immodium, but after 2 days I decided to eat a "regular" meal and got diarrhea again. So it's been on an off for 6 days, and this morning it was worse than it was the first day!
