Lamotrigine and ssri

Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine and ssri

lamictal

Avatar f tn My current doctor says after the massive weightlifting and shortened muscles, my system can´t separate being happy and stress, that´s why the SSRI/SNRI gives a stresses me up and starts the muscle cramps. However, after discontinued Lamictal, I was prescribed Depakote/Valproat, but didn´t gave me anything near Lamictal in terms of relaxing me. Last Monday I got to try Lamictal again, with the goal of reaching 100mg and stay there.
Avatar f tn Meds are pretty individual. Lamotrigine would be the one I'd ask for. It has a low side effect profile and is good more for the downs than the ups. If you are up more than you are down - lithium may be a better choice. Although with lithium you will need regular blood testing. Depakene is the other mood stabilizer but I know very little about it except it can make your hair fall out. I had a hard go around with the antipsychotics. Lots of side effects But finally Abilify works great for me.
Avatar m tn ve been taking quetiapine and lamotrigine to treat bipolar disorder for about 1.5 years. My doctor says the cause of my dysfunction is that I have low sex drive, and it makes sense. Is there any suggestion?
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar f tn The study listed other pharmacologic treatments for skin picking, such as inositol, clomipramine, doxepin, inositol, lamotrigine, olanzapine, naltrexone and riluzole. In addition, the study suggested that the prescription medication worked best if combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy. Avatar f tn Just to add to what nursegirl said, it is also quite common to be on a benzo and an ssri long term if the ssri doesn't do the job by itself.
644988 tn?1236364548 5 yrs), Reboxetine 12mgs (18months), Lamotrigine 150mgs (6months) and Lithium 400 at night (one week...so unlikely to be relevant). Anyone got any useful thoughts??
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
2033870 tn?1329481339 Just do a google search on antidepressants and rapid cycling. I was ultra rapid cycling taking an antipsychotic, lamotrigine, and wellbutrin. I only started getting better when I did the research on antidepressants and insisted that I no longer take them. Very odd medication choices. I've taken neurontin but it was for pain related issues not mood. Have you been unable to take standard medication like lamotrigine, lithium, or diprovalex?
7390486 tn?1395024820 I am very sorry for the passings of your brother and father. I lost a sibling and my father also. I was still on mood stabilizers and not very well, so my meds got shored up. I was terribly distraught about them being gone and dreaded waking up and facing another day knowing that. The grief eases up. It took myself a couple of years before I noticed it wasn't so constant. Grief is very personal, so I won't pretend to know what you are going through.
Avatar f tn Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar m tn It is an atypical antidepressant that is not an SSRI. It has worked well for me in the past and it is what I am currently taking. Another option that might work would be basic Prozac. I have not taken it but it often gets overlooked these days because the drug companies have new fancy SSRIs they want people to take. Depression is frustrating. Finding a medication that works for it can almost be worse sometimes, because it can take 4-6 weeks to really judge if they are working.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm here kind of as a guest. In answer to your question, I began exhibiting severe signs of clinical depression at around 13, diagnosed with it at 14 and subsequently put on different antidepressants until about 20, then got off meds entirely. I thought I was,"fine" for several years til I turned 26, lost my job, couldn't pay my bills or my apartment, developed debilitating anxiety and begged my mother to put in me in a psychiatric hospital. That was all pre-meds as well.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar m tn ve put her on Geodon 20, Lamotrigine 25 then increase eventually to 100, and Bupropion 37.5 to increase to 75 daily!!! Isn't that a bit much for her problem? It seems to me like she'd being treated for Bipolar instead of PMDD. Can you give me any ideas of why she needs all these very strong meds with bad side effects when this is her first episode of depression?? Thank you very much.
Avatar n tn I have been on SSRI And SNRI with nothing helping the depression and only the anxiety. Please do not state that there is only one Bipolar when you are not a health professional.
Avatar f tn The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700." Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient. You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Lamotrigine, Prazosin, and Quetiapine. I have also been diagnosed with H. Pylori, I was wondering if I could take Prevacid with these other medications? I have tried everything else and this would be a last resort.
Avatar m tn I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
