925572 tn?1246540031 DOCTOROFMIND a psychiatrist on youtube said recently in a video there are a couple of safe psych meds for pregnancy, it wasn't one of them however and he only listed prozac and haldol although NAMI's website says prozac possibly causes serious birth problems and as for haldol it says you should tell your doctor if you're pregnant but says nothing about special precautions with pregnancy. Hell he doesn't even like prescribing meds unless he absolutely has to.
3140085 tn?1342843508 a few years ago the dr had me take topamax and i really liked it. can you take topamax with prozac? or would I just need the topamax only? I'm really in a bind because i can not afford to see the dr.
Avatar m tn Hi, my niece is 20 years old and this week had suicidal thoughts and was hospitalized for 3 days in a MH unit. She's been suffering from some moderate depression/anxiety for some time, but specifically connected to her period, her PMS was terrible! Anyway, she'd been taking a BCP which they changed and Prozac to help the PMDD, but now after the hospitalization, they've put her on Geodon 20, Lamotrigine 25 then increase eventually to 100, and Bupropion 37.5 to increase to 75 daily!!
Avatar f tn Anyway if you responded well to Prozac last time then I guess you could try and get some again. Ask some friends about social services in your area. A social worker might be able to help you out. Getting prescription drugs in NZ is fairly cheap. I think I paid $3 for 90 fluoxetine pills. Good luck and hope everything works out for you!
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
Avatar f tn Rest assured though thyroid problems, depression and bipolar are linked and can be managed with correct meds. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I been diagnos with bipolar(severe manic depression) years ago and have been on numerous meds but what I want to know is what is the best medication that stops the racing thoughts because it is really bothersome.
1745259 tn?1311370367 i was diagnosed with bipolar when i was about 15. i'm 26 now. i was hospitalized when i was first diagnosed. i've been on and off medication throughout the years. now that i'm married and have a child and my husband works over seas and i'm alone, i felt it nessesary to be on meds. the past several years have been esspecially hard for me. i have been working hard the past year to get myself stabilized and gosh, this is getting hard!
Avatar f tn Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn Sometimes people are actually allergic to a filler in a generic version of a pill, and not actually allergic to the drug (and eyes and throat swelling shut sounds like an allergic reaction, although I certainly can't tell you that for sure over the internet). As for the BP II--well, maybe. Those high activity levels or even the irritability could be signs of it, but they might not be.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
337492 tn?1212458836 It is soooo important for us bi polars to be on both a mood stabilazer and an anti deprressant. I take cel\exa and zyprexa and they have worked wonderfully for me. for 7 years now. fire your doc and get another one that will work with you. If you start feeling bad again just message me. you are in my prayers.I will listen anytime you need me to.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn Carbamazepine is the generic name for tegretol with dose 600-1600mg. This is one of 3 most classical drugs for bipolarity used especially in Britain (lithium, tegretol, depakote) and have become standard for half a century. In the USA they don't use it often because of its interactions with other drugs. They substitute it for oxcarbazepine (trileptal) 1200-2400mg. The latrter has less interactivity with other drugs.
2033870 tn?1329481339 Just do a google search on antidepressants and rapid cycling. I was ultra rapid cycling taking an antipsychotic, lamotrigine, and wellbutrin. I only started getting better when I did the research on antidepressants and insisted that I no longer take them. Very odd medication choices. I've taken neurontin but it was for pain related issues not mood. Have you been unable to take standard medication like lamotrigine, lithium, or diprovalex?
Avatar f tn The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700." Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient. You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Lamotrigine, Prazosin, and Quetiapine. I have also been diagnosed with H. Pylori, I was wondering if I could take Prevacid with these other medications? I have tried everything else and this would be a last resort.
Avatar m tn I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
1962464 tn?1344606673 Seroquel, cyclobenziprine, Celebrex, Lamotrigine, Prozac, Diclofenic, Simvastatin, and Levothyroxin. My doctor does a complete blood work up every three months and doesn't seem concerned about the combination of meds that I am taking. I know some of these are also prescribed for fybromyalgia pain. If I hurt this much while taking all these medication I hate to think about how I would feel without them.
Avatar f tn It took me 3 years to find the right combination of meds. Lamotrigine is one of my meds. It levels the bipolar swings for me, and doesn't make me a zombie, although if the level goes beyond 200mg a day I become quite fatigued. It is generally a very well tolerated drug with some of the lowest side effects. It may not work for you because brain chemistry is so individual, but it does work for a lot of people so your doc wasn't out of line in trying it.
Avatar f tn If someone who does not require Prozac takes it, as I did before, it is common to keep yawning and yawning until one's jaw becomes very fatigued. The yawning is not in response to tiredness but someone serotonin related, and at this time no one fully understands what is going on.
Avatar f tn Ugh i'm on Lamotrigine and I accidentally took a whole pill and not a half and the next-ish day I had this sore feeling in a part of my throat I couldn't pinpoint , it was weird. I have continuously felt like I was on the verge of getting sick...Hm. I've been really thirsty lately, too.
