Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine and effexor

lamictal

Avatar f tn Lamictal 300mg, Effexor XR 300mg, and now just recently started taking Adderol for the distraction caused by the Lamictal. So far the Adderol hasn't had much affect. Would you recommend as a replacement for Lamictal?
497482 tn?1212948534 Do you normally prefer to sleep on your side, back or stomach? Are you waking up short of breath on your back only? Have you gained any weight recently? If so, you may be slowly developing a sleep-breathing problem.
674607 tn?1240017232 Finally, eight years ago, I was put on medication--first for depression and then for BP2 (Lamotrigine, Effexor, Lithium, Risperdal, Clonazepam). Still, I am rarely symptom-free. On good days, I may feel only worried, incompetent, unworthy, and fatigued. On bad days, it's either depression, nasty hypomania, or a mixture of both. On and on it goes, medication and all, with rarely a break between.
Avatar f tn nursegirl6572 the psychiatrist has diagnosed and has prescribed me Effexor XR 75mg for 6 days and after Effexor 150mg for three weeks at night only.Tablet Neuxam(alprazolam) 0.5 mg starting from 1/2 morning and 1 & 1/2 in the evening and reduce weekly to 1 & 1/2 , 1 and 1/2 only at evening.
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar f tn I got a partial response from Geodone (called Zeldox where I live) and lamotrigine, but I started to lose weight rapidly (got down to a size 2) so they switched to Abilify and my life is sooo much better. I really can't believe the difference. Each person reacts differently to meds. I have one friend who felt horrid on Abilify and does wonderfully on Zeldox. I know my pdoc said his most common combination is Seroquel for sleep and lamotrigine to stabilize.
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
483818 tn?1232684772 The meds I can remember taking, and I dont remember them all are paxil, celexa, effexor, prozack, citalopram, clonazepam, lamotrigine, and there are defanitly more than I cannot remember the names of. I just dont know what to do anymore... By the way, i believe Effexor should be taken off of the market. The dreams they cause cannot be a good thing. I was waking up screaming thinking there was blood all over me, calling people to make sure I didn't actually kill them.

Avatar f tn Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
1699382 tn?1307603715 Here it is lamotrigine and seroquel that my pdoc most often prescribes for bipolar 2 (I am not on that but that is too long of a story and not really relevant) You need to talk to your doctor. Everything you describe is a side effect of Effexor. If they do take you off Effexor expect to be sick for a couple of weeks, maybe less because you haven't been on it very long. It has the worst withdrawl effects of any of the antidepressants.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar m tn did the psychiatrist ever refer you to a psychologist for CBT?
Avatar f tn The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700." Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient. You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Lamotrigine, Prazosin, and Quetiapine. I have also been diagnosed with H. Pylori, I was wondering if I could take Prevacid with these other medications? I have tried everything else and this would be a last resort.
Avatar f tn ll with flu like symptoms which left him with weak muscles severe constant head pain ( still) extreme fatigue and a series of other issues. It took months of running to gp and hospital to get answers - this was initially that he had signs of having a Tia then it was two tia's then we were contacted to go in to hosp for further tests as scan had shown vasculitis in brain - then this was ruled out . Back to TIA .
Avatar m tn I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
Avatar f tn Ugh i'm on Lamotrigine and I accidentally took a whole pill and not a half and the next-ish day I had this sore feeling in a part of my throat I couldn't pinpoint , it was weird. I have continuously felt like I was on the verge of getting sick...Hm. I've been really thirsty lately, too.
