I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly!
If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
This report examines the clinical use of concurrent ECT and lamotrigine for acute bipolar depression and the transition to maintenance therapy.
Methods: Nine patients with acute bipolar depression were simultaneously treated with a course of ECT while titrating lamotrigine for maintenance therapy. We compared mean stimulus intensity, mean seizure duration, and mean time to orientation after treatment for each patient during treatment with their highest and lowest lamotrigine dose.
Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood.
Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine.
Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
I asked my neurologist about sleep and he told me to take the Lamotrigine 250x2 1 time/day. From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
I am on 300mg cynbalta and 100mg of lamotrigine can I take these tohether without any interactions and if so what

[citation needed] Lamotrigine has been studied as an adjunctive therapy for treatment of refractory unipolar depression, attaining efficacy on the secondary metric for treatment outcomes (Clinical Global Impressions), but not the primary metrics (Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression).
However, lamotrigine works best in keeping depression away and does little in deterring mania. The mania you have been having may have nothing to do with lamotrigine but because it doesn't do anything for it when it comes on. Other mood stabilizers, like lithium and Depakote work well for mania. I would discuss the option of adding one of them to the lamotrigine.
I'm currently on the combo. It's working alright for me. I still get frequent manic episodes and psychosis (I'm schizoaffective, but neither drug does anything for psychosis anyways) but I've only had one depressive episode in the last 5 years, and I'm a rapid cycler.I had about 10 depressive episodes in 2-3 years and they stopped completely when I started lamotrigine (well, apart from the one, but it was work related).
Rest assured though thyroid problems, depression and bipolar are linked and can be managed with correct meds. Hope this helps.
Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks
Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?
My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
t truly depression just straight out inability to function. She is actually doing well now on 100mg of Lamictal and 1500 of Lithium.
I will say though it did take several therapist and 3 different Psychiatrists before we found the right doctors.
50mg lamotrigine and 75mg Wellbutrin (bupropion extended release)
10PM: 50mg lamotrigine
These medicines worked for me well for 8 months or so till the passing away of a family member. I didn't think I was in mourning but I guess it did affect me. And now either medicines/times are either not good enough or are contributing to my anxiety.
