Common Questions and Answers about Lamotrigine and anxiety

Avatar f tn Lamotrigine? What exactly is that? I tried wellbutrin but took all emotions away and put me in zombie mode!
Avatar f tn Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood. Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine. Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been givin lamotrigine for panic attacks and anxiety, and did it work and what were the side effects i take xanax but my doctor dosent want me on that long term and now he tryin this..
Avatar f tn I really feel better mentally, no depression or pain, with lamotrigine, and I am so sad that I might have to give it up. I just saw my doctor yesterday and since it is February, she thinks that may be it is just a stomach virus... I need to live my life without having to pull over at gas station rest areas constantly! If this is caused by the lamotrigine, will I "adjust" and the diarrhea go away, or am I just really too sensitive to this medication?
Avatar n tn I am on 300mg cynbalta and 100mg of lamotrigine can I take these tohether without any interactions and if so what
Avatar f tn Your doctor will start you on low dose of lamotrigine and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 1 to 2 weeks. You may be more likely to develop a serious rash if you take a higher starting dose or increase your dose faster than your doctor tells you that you should. Your first doses of medication may be packaged in a starter kit that will clearly show you the right amount of medication to take each day during the first 5 weeks of your treatment.
Avatar f tn If it is stress anxiety related- this is not helping. Can these Meds create such tremors? And would they manifest after such a time? His blood tests indicated his Eilam levels to be ok.
Avatar f tn I realise the Klonopin is not an antidepessant. I never said it was. I said it was helping me with my anxiety. But I've tried other medications in the past so I have every reason to not want to try certain things. Seeing as how I was on Buspar and Zoloft separately, both made me sick to my stomach and the Zoloft made me even more depressed. So I'm not too fond of SSRI's at this point.
Avatar f tn My son is 25 and has seizure disorder. This past Thanksgiving, he had a total of 5 seizures over 24 hours necessitating a hospital visit and stay. They put him on a third seizure medication (Lamotrigine). I spoke with a neurologist at USF who didn't like that a 3rd medication was added before his previous two were maxed out--he was already on Keppra (max dosage) and Depakote (sprinkles--very low dose), so she titrated him up on the Depakote so we could get rid of the Lamotrigine.
Avatar f tn Hey all, my name is Daniel and I'm 21 years young. In about 2011 or so (i was like 17 I wanna say) I was perscribed Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. Taking that medication seems to have been the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Or, the most coincidental occurance I've ever heard of. Just a week after tapering daily to the regular dose, I began to feel what I called "crippling anxiety".
Avatar m tn I'm in the Uk and currently taking Quetiapine, Depakote and Lamotrigine. The Quetiapine for me was prescribed for rage and agitation, I don't feel any anti depressant properties from it, but it has saved my life. Lamotrigine was prescribed 7 weeks ago and I feel a lot better, I am doing things that I didn't think I'd ever feel I could do again. Nobody has ever specified what type of Bp I have, I have symptoms from across the spectrum, I have mixed episodes.
Avatar m tn I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off. This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
Avatar n tn Objective: Lamotrigine and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) are both safe and effective treatments for bipolar depression. Concerns exist that anticonvulsants may interfere with seizure expression during ECT or may exacerbate cognitive side effects, potentially affecting clinical response. This report examines the clinical use of concurrent ECT and lamotrigine for acute bipolar depression and the transition to maintenance therapy.
Avatar f tn I am very happy with the treatment so far, but today, I met with a Board Certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner who specializes in medications for anxiety and PTSD. She took a thorough medical history, spent over 3 hours gathering an immense amount of pertinent information. After reviewing the medications I was already taking (to avoid any conflicts) she recommended Lamotrigine for my intense anxiety.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I take lamotrigine - 200mg -- and it has worked well for me with no side effects. It is usually weight neutral meaning it doesn't affect your appetite. I have taken other mood stabilizers and didn't like the side effects - lithium, bad hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting; depakote, hair loss, weight gain; seroquel, extreme sleepiness Do remember that this is my experience and yours may be different.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a first time pregnant mom to be at 35 and I have some complex med problems that require maintenance meds. I'm epileptic with a small brain tumor and taking Lamotrigine, which I know isn't great for the baby. But I'm low dose (200 mgs a day) and a seizure will most likely cause more injury to the baby than stopping. I also have an anxiety disorder and chronic pain due to a failed knee surgery a few years ago.
1756969 tn?1332437163 ve been taking Lamotrigine for over a year. It caused no changes in my weight or appetite. And I swear by the medication.
Avatar f tn I've taken Klonpin which is the medication with the most mood stabilizing effects and it wasn't very strong. Good for anxiety though. If I was having troubles I'd choose lithium (I can't take it because I only have one kidney). Although there are other mood stablizers out there such as Depakote and Lamotrigine. I take lamotrigine.
Avatar n tn I have generalized anxiety that starts when I first wake up and lasts through most of the day. It's a very unpleasant feeling in my chest. I've had it for a number of months and am desperate for relief. I'm on Lamotrigine and Seroquel but they don't have any effect. Does anyone else have anxiety that lasts all day, every day? And what can I do? Please help.
Avatar f tn Finally I tried Abilify and it works great in combo with the lamotrigine. I feel like myself. Not depressed, not elevated, just me. I have different friends who have found different meds that work. I would seriously consider not taking any more Zoloft and calling your psychiatrist. You don't want to end up in the psyc ward. Be honest with her and tell her your concerns. Maybe she'll have some ideas. You may also want to consider a new pdoc.
1576249 tn?1296087202 I was diagnosed with panic disorder in high school and took all sorts of anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants with no relief. About a year ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism caused by graves disease(which causes metabolic problems, mood, anxiousness, insomnia, fast heart rate), in the last few months my thyroid is in remission so I was taken off anti-thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn The study found five cases of oral clefts in infants in a study of 564 pregnancies (that is one in 113 cases) where the mother was taking lamotrigine and no other antiepileptic drugs. This is higher than the worldwide incidence which is one in 700." Overall, there are reports for and against Lamotrigine in pregnancy. The treatment has to be individualized for each patient. You will need a regular monitoring of the fetal growth.
