OK, now get you a calendar and put the amt to take on each day, even though starter pack say day#, The calendar helped me tremendously whan I started Lamictal. I crossed of each day on calendar when I took meds. Silly, But I rewarded myself with a small treat each time I completed a doseage amt for # of days, in the amt of time without stopping and starting. It is very important to do as MD for meds to be affective.
Been on about 3 months nownever had any problems with dizzy or clumsy ( no moe than normal) But the vision thing has been gradually getting worse, i just wrote it off to getting older, think i'llcheck with Doc now let yu know soon as i find out
I had the same fears when beginning Lamictal- the warnings are very terrifying-- but I experienced none of the rashes or side effects, and responded well to it in general. My psychiatrist feels it is one of the most effective drugs out there for bipolar despite this side effect, which from the research I have seen is rare, but serious.
If you are thinking of starting it, the doctor should start you out very slowly on what is called the "starter pack," which brings you up very slowly.
Lamactil is great! Like horselover said, it will take time to titrate up to the right levels. It took me almost 2 months. What a difference it has made. I've found that I've no longer got my carb cravings, but I think it's because it helps with impulsive behaviors, mine being serious disordered eating. (I'm a bulemic in remission, but was still binging) I found with all of the SSRI's that I was on, I had wicked cravings, gotta love brain impulses.
If you are up to 100mg, I am thinking this might be a new drug for you. I had to take a starter pack when I started to get to 100mg, and I have just now started sleeping. I feel great now, and sleep all night FINALLLLY, after a long time of the mania and not sleeping.
Talk to your doctor and let him know what's going on with you. You could indeed be in a mania state, but he/she might be able to help you through it.
Thanks for writing and answering my question. I did get a starter kit, and I finally took the first dose of Lamictal, and the side effect of being really, really drowsy wasn't bad, I knew that it would go away soon, but the other side effect I has stopped me cold, and i won't take it again. It made my heart beat really rapidly and pound, it felt like, out of my chest. THAT, I cannot handle, so back to the doctor I go.
Has anyone else had this side effect?
10 years ago I was misdiagnosed BP1 , taken off antidepressants, and onto Lamatrogine. While dosing up on the starter pack, I had panic attack after panic attack, finally went to a proper psychiatrist, he said I am not BP1. He immediately put me back on an antidepressant. Then I just suffered with irritability. So he added Seroquel at night. He is an addictionoligist as well and said doctors dont get addicts. They diagnose us improperly as BP1. I COULD NOT TOLERATE LAMICTAL.
So they started me on Lamictal a wk and a half ago. I feel more depressed than ever. I've taken lamictal before and it seems to help at obviously higher doses. Most of you know with Lamictal you have to start out slow. So I'm still on 25mg right now due to start 50mg in a few days. I don't know if I should contribute this(worsening depression) to the Lamictal or just say that it's not had enough time to work.

Hello, I do not have BPD, but PTSD. I have taken Lamictal, 25mg for over a year with no side effects and positive results. I had a bad episode and several flashbacks a few months ago. My Doc wants me to go up to 200mg. I am taking 50mg for two weeks then go up. So far no side effects but I am worried, 200mg seems like a lot. Will it not make me a zombie, emotionally flat like ssris? Has anyone been up to 200mg before?
tablets in a row in week three, or if you miss three tablets in a row during any of the first 3 weeks, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new package on the same day if you are a Day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking a pill every day until Sunday.
On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day. You may not have a period that month, but this is expected.
t eat much and I do believe that was a contributing factors since the last episode my doc put me on a starter kit of lamictal just 4 days on the meds and I already have panic attacks loss of appetite and tachycardia(fast heartbeat) and my auraos have amplified I hope it's the meds I have to talk to my doctor first
It IS from the Alli, have you read the pamplet that comes with the starter pack? it will explain it all. I had the same issue until I read the info packet. I guess that is why they insist on you getting the starter pack to start with(lol). You need to watch your intake of fat, the more fat you eat the more fat comes out of the other end. Fat is what you are referring to as the greesy orange stuff floating. Alli recommends not to consume more than 15grams of fat per meal.

IT YOU INCREASE YOUR DOSAGE BY MORE THAN 25MG AT A TIME FOR A WEEK, OR 50MG FOR 2 WEEKS ( AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ON LAMICTAL FOR SOME TIME AND YOUR DOCTOR FEELS THAT IT IS OK TO INCREASE IT BY 50MG EVERY TWO WEEKS) YOU CAN HAVE SOME TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS. YOU CAN GET A RASH THAT YOU BETTER GET TO A HOSPITAL RIGHT AWAY. IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.
I'm on microgestin 21 1-20 pack, I missed 4 pills in my first week, how do I take them now? Im a Sunday starter.
Hi I got my ears pierced about a month ago inside a small little shop in the city I read that there was a possibilty have getting hiv from a piercing gun the piercer wore glove got a pack of starter studs they seemed to be new he sprayed them down a few times shook them to make sure the cleanser got around then placed the stud in the gun I hesatated at first then finally let him do it from this experience would I be considered at risk
t start at as high a dosage as you did - I started with the Lamictal starter pack 25 mg, then 50 mg, then 100, and stabilized on that (it took a month) then went to 200mg, where I really felt stable at 200mg. All together, it took me about 2 months, but began to feel the effects of being stable at about 3 weeks.
It affects everyone differently, and with you jumping right into 100mg, I can't say for sure. Honestly, I have been told that 200mg is the maximum dosage!
