lamictal side effects medication

I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better,but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.

I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?

So i went a visited a nurse practitioner yesterday and it went very well. I am on some new medication as of last night called "Lamictal". I would like to know who has tried this medication and what it has done for them. please get back to me.

That is the starting effective dose of Lamictal from what I believe though you could ask your psychiatrist. I did have some heavy side effects from Lamictal when I started it but they went away in time. I am not sure if all those side effects are from the Lamictal but you should definitely discuss them with your psychiatrist and you could look on the medication website as well and ask your pharmacist in the meantime for more information.

I thought the medication side effects were bad, but the withdrawal at times is worst. As far as keeping my psychiatrist informed, I have been and he still isn't convinced the lamictal is causing this. Needless to say I have an appt to see a new psychiatrist. He is suppose to be an expert with TBI and the problems we face. Thanks again.

My specific experience with the two medications may vary as I have schizoaffective disorder. Seroquel (brand name for the other medication you mentioned) is an antipsychotic and like all current antipsychotics the short term side effects are the potential of weight gain and short term movement disorders. I found it to be sedating but each person responds differently to each medication. It does have strong mood stabilization properties.

lamictal has a warning in the side effect booklet about taking with birth control; yes, it can (and usually does) minimize your birth control effectiveness. might wanna talk to your doctor, though.

I love love love being on Lamictal. It truly has been wonderful as far as depression/mood my only negative comment about it is I have trouble sleeping sometime.

The majority of the pts in the USA and Canada are under lamictal so i assumed it's good unless the company has a good marketing policy. But since millions of people are using it i don't think they all suffer from memory loss. In any case you may be right the med is comparatively recent and it will take time untril they realise the danger of using it if there is one.

He gave me some reading material and we discussed the side effects. Many of the side effects were similar to that of the other meds that I had already been on. The main issue for me is that it has raised my sugar levels. So I have to watch what I eat more than what I did before. BUT, ..... It has been the only medicine that finally helped me! (There was a small timeframe that Abilify was added, but I no longer take it).

Lamictal can occasionally cause extra pyramidal side effects and as an adverse side effect tardive dyskinesia. That is where I acquired it from. I do know that all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects which are typically blurred vision, dry mouth and sometimes trouble urinating so you could speak to your psychiatrist about that as one potential cause.

i say my new neoro today and he wanted me to look at 3 other meds(lamictal, topomax, and trileptal) and they all have just as bad or more side effects including severe acne. ive been trying to ghave a good attitude but its starting to get to me and it has almost eliminated my social life. i dont care what ppl think. acne does make a difference and i dont think a good looking girl would like me with my face all messed up.

ve been titrating down from 300mg by 25mg/wk and the side effects have been horrific; nausea, headaches, blurred vision. The side effects from toxicity still exist; itching,burning/tingling, pins &amp; needles, bone ache and stiffness in legs all still exist as well.

and now Lamictal, for the past two years. Of all the many meds I have taken, Lamictal has produced the least side effects. No sleepiness, no weight gain, ( that I can attribute to my meds anyway..ahem) and no englargement of the gums. In short I would say from my personal experience it's the best anti-seizure med out there. I only take 200mg a day, so it may be different for others who take a higher or lower dosage. the fact that you have no side effects when you go off the medication is not a reflection of the potency of the medication .many people can go all these medications without any side effects. You sound to me as if you are overly reliant on the medications to control your mood. Remember that you have a mind also and you can solve problems and deal with relationships and all of that influences your mood.

IMOVANE (14mg) for the past 3 months or so IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS i have been experiencing the following symptoms (and in a very serious way) * fatigue * nausea * Shaking/ tremor (BAD) * reflux * Night sweats * vivid dreams * decreased appetite * anxiety ++ * no interest in sex at all * stiff muscles I have to take the cymbalta but want to wein myself off the others- is there any explaination as to why im feeling these side effects?? Two of the medications (Cymbalta, Geodon) you are taking can commonly (especially Geodon) cause extra pyramidal side effects (temporary movement disorders) such as akathesia which can be treated with a side effect pill. I had that problem with Lamictal but with that it is a statistically rare adverse side effect. If you are feeling any cognitive confusion that should go away in time. Once the Lamictal begins to work in full you can ask your psychiatrist about adjusting your other medications.

That is one of the side effects monitored for with lithium with the monthly blood test and not as much of a problem with other mood stabilizers but every medication has its specific set of side effects. Lithium does have a fair amount of side effects but its also highly effective. I personally found Lamictal quite effective for rapid cycling but every person has their own experience.
