Lamictal side effects sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal side effects sleep

lamictal

Avatar f tn Some side effects get less. Some go away. You need to give meds at least a few weeks to see what is going on. The only exception for that is a massive weight gain or a life threatening reaction. I have found my own choice after 4 years but would not like to discuss it on the forum and would not like to give you my plan because it is only for me. Drugs work differently for everyone. Anyways, there are ways to avoid the sleepiness with the drugs if it begins to interfere with your life.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
337492 tn?1212458836 I am starting to feel better, but I am having side effects. I have been on the lithium for a year so I am not worried about it, but I feel jittery, am shaky, and my heart rate is staying at 100 BPM. Will this calm down as the med gets in my system? 150 mg per day taken at 75 mg x2. I just want to make sure I will be ok. I see my new doctor on Tuesday. Thanks.
Avatar n tn ve been on Wellbutrin for 4 weeks now and my sexual side effects have not subsided. I specifically chose to take Wellbutrin because of its reputation for rarely causing sexual side effects, because even while depressed I had a pretty healthy sex life. However, I recently read that studies have shown that, although less common than with SSRI antidepressants, Wellbutrin can cause sexual side effects, such as decreased libido and impotence.
355133 tn?1241569648 ve been titrating down from 300mg by 25mg/wk and the side effects have been horrific; nausea, headaches, blurred vision. The side effects from toxicity still exist; itching,burning/tingling, pins & needles, bone ache and stiffness in legs all still exist as well.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I never experienced any side effects from lamictal and my hysband suffers from bp2 also and takes it without any side effects. I tried nuerontin made me feel awful. So tired, but lamictal helped me from not being able to drive to work even after a full nights sleep, to being almost normal as far as fatigue goes. I'm afraid to try lyrica because I already have weight issues and a major side effect is weight gain.
Avatar f tn - I looked up lamictal and sure enough there it was. Your body starts having REALLY bad side effects when it detects an OVERDOSE. I called the doctor and sure enough - he gets on the phone with me - we talk. I would take the medicine and fine, then when it starts being absorbed all hell breaks loose. I stayed off the medicine for one day - went back on the next day at 300 mg.
1246883 tn?1285547973 ve tried over the past 15 years, this stuff has had the least number of side-effects, and overall, the side-effects that the vast majority of people have experienced are far less severe than all the other BP drugs out there, and if anything, are minor nusiances that are easily either dealt with or ignored, and will dissipate over the course of treatment. It was also perfectly safe for me to take while pregnant, so long as I supplemented with high doses of folic acid.
Avatar f tn I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?
874521 tn?1424116797 Lamictal can occasionally cause extra pyramidal side effects and as an adverse side effect tardive dyskinesia. That is where I acquired it from. Go to the medication website (the prescription information part) under "adverse side effects" and print that out for your psychiatrist. They can determine whether its e.p.s. (in which case it can be treated with a side effect pill) or tardive which means it must be changed to another medication.
Avatar f tn I had some minor nausea when I was on Lamictal. Like all medications I took it with milk instead of water. That helped. Sometimes having some food (a light non fattening snack) does as well. That coats the stomach. As for the other side effects I didn't experience those. As I transferred from lithium to Lamictal I got more of my personality back as well as energy without being manic.
Avatar f tn You might want to take it slow as you go on it as a couple of the side effects can be disquieting. My only side effect was a severe increase in sexdrive. I'm that way anyway but it was more so after starting the drug. In my opinion it is a good drug and it has a lot of benefits. Good luck with it.
607502 tn?1288247540 Why are you changing from seroquel to lamictal? I am just curious as I perhaps too might be changing from seroquel to something else in the near future. It's some unwanted side effects for me.I tried stopping the med unsupervised (don't do this at home) and I had a real job sleeping afterwards, so perhaps be prepared for that (I am back on now until I can see my pdoc).
Avatar f tn At 2 1/2 months on lithium, I went psychotic again. Hence the Lamictal. So far the side effects are unnoticeable. I am titrating slow and watching closely. My normal hypo mania and agitation or depression cycles are back, but I don't mind that, I wanted back to drug free before trying another drug. They wanted me to drop lithium to finish it right when the Lamictal was at a therapeutic dose.
Avatar n tn My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds. The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
Avatar m tn The side effects you are describing can occur as an adverse reaction to Lamictal but it also could be a matter of interactions with the other medications. What might be going on could have a variety of causes. Its also important to think whether it has helped you or not. All of this could be discussed with your psychiatrist so they could come to an appropriate decision within their clinical discretion.
1154462 tn?1327434379 Actually, flu like symptoms are some of the infrequent side effects of Lamictal. Between 1 and 5% of folks have that kind of reaction to it.I kicked up my dose of Lamictal last week and had the chills for two days, but it went away. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you get a rash. It a rash appears, then you need to be concerned. If this does happen, get a hold of you doctor right away..
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
Avatar n tn lamictal has a warning in the side effect booklet about taking with birth control; yes, it can (and usually does) minimize your birth control effectiveness. might wanna talk to your doctor, though.
