Lamictal for schizophrenia

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal for schizophrenia

lamictal

1021784 tn?1306363011 As the above poster has repeated, Latuda is almost exclusively used to treat Schizophrenia, but she adds that it is prescribed for "other uses." After a great deal more reading and three phone calls, I have found that the ONLY other condition Latuda is used for is bi-polar disorder and most doctors prescribe it as a last ditch attempt due to its side effects. As the preceeding poster advised......"Ask your doctor WHY he prescribed this for you.
Avatar m tn have tried lithium but it did not work for me. am now on lamictal and up to100 with no effect yet. will keep trying though. talk to your pdoc about what meds might suit you.
Avatar f tn I am on day 6 cold turkey off percocets. I realize the underlying issue is depression/coping. Today I saw a NP and was prescribed Saphris 5mg SL every night and started on Lamictal with a tapering increase in dose over the next month. Im not comfortable with the Saphris though,,,its an "atypical antipsychotic" and used for people with Bipolar I disorder and schizophrenia?????
Avatar n tn s just want to get me on a med., but I have to go slowly. I was on Lamictal for two years, but I convinced myself it was making me gain weight, so I weaned myself off. I should have just stayed on, as it was doing the trick for me. Now my dr. wants me to try something new. Ugh. I have so much anxiety over the weight gain aspect that I'm having painc attacks.
192368 tn?1224204130 I have only read that Geodon is great for schizophrenia, and those other symptoms. Will it work for me and bring me out of this blue funk Ive been in for months? Im really concerned. Any input is great! thanks!
2133558 tn?1368828158 Hi I am 28 years old and have been dealing with seizures my whole life. Yeah it does suck and I have been taking 20 different meds from age 12 to 27. I am on two meds now and they work like a charm. I did take Lamictal but that didn't work for me. Now I am on Keppra and Dilatin. They work for me but you never know if it will work for you.
997928 tn?1252444237 I've been taking Lamictal for about 3 months, but can't stand the side effects anymore! I feel like I traded anxiety for ADD. I can't focus, have short-term memory loss, speak slowly, and have an exceding amount of mucus in my throat. I was taking 300mg. Now I'm at 225mg. It has helped to take down the dose, but it's still very annoying! I take it with 300mg of Effexor XR which I have been taking for several years.
1154462 tn?1327434379 He also mentioned that at times seeing repeated visions of family or close relatives is common during the early morning times, however its definitely not early schizophrenia. He also advised me to keep the crisis hotline # in my phone in case my husband is away on travel and a similar incident should happen then.
Avatar f tn I think I can help a bit with your questions, in the past year I have been taking fur out of those five; no lamictal for me..though currently being considered. At my worst I was extremely debilitated and there was talk of admitting to to a unit, fot months I could barely function, the drugs as they came on board slowly helped me, but were no miracle cure.
Avatar f tn I had been doing so well on the lamictal and cymbalta that I thought I had no need for psychiatrist for the last 10 months or so. Now, bam, I need one and who wants to start with a patient that already has SJS. When I had dbl couverage insurance I could get in anywhere. (least of problems) 4. I've seen, neurologist, internal med.
Avatar n tn I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.
Avatar f tn I know that hallucinations and hearing things are a main symptom of Schizophrenia but since my daughters last Bi-polar episode she swears she is seeing colors move. Like the "popcorn" stuff on the ceilings and the paint behind it- she says the paint is moving. It is worse when she gets upset. Reading is almost impossible because she says the letters are moving, worse on the computer. I don't know if this is a new developing symptom, a med side affect or what?
Avatar f tn He did not see me when I had 3 SEVERELY psychotic episodes all within about two years before I finally was put on an antipsychotic Zyprexa 7 to 8 years ago which worked like a charm. However, I am now on Abilify at 45 mg. and Lamictal 100mg. for now. I am curious as to why he seems to be so insistent about the ADD because every other doctor I have ever been to has without a doubt diagnosed me with schizophrenia.
Avatar n tn The antipsychotic agent I am on is in Phase II FDA study (read through my posts) and has far less side effects than the current ones and is more effective but let me wait until they understand it better as its not a known quantity yet (and its been researched on schizophrenia, not ptsd). If the Lamictal is showing good results your psychiatrist might consider tapering down the Lithium gradually.
Avatar f tn I have been to Dr. A for years and have taken SSRI's on and off. The best was Celexa and did great on it for a year. It just made me have trouble waking up and made me late to work every morning. Then I moved and went to a new psychiatrist, Dr. H, who knows me less but was more thorough like taking blood and mouth swab test, etc. He seems to think I have a mood disorder (bipolar spectrum) on the the depressive side and thinks Mood Stabilizers like Lamictal would be better for me.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
370801 tn?1264405018 I take Wellbutrin and Lamictal combo - it seems to have helped me a considerable amount since starting it about 6 months ago. The Wellbutrin makes me anxious alone. I haven't been diagnosed as bipolar, although the wellbutrin alone makes me ocd / add like symptoms where I can't sit still, and my mind won't calm down and I spend too much money and just get too worked up. I don't really have full out mania - so who knows.
Avatar n tn I have been told by a therapist that I have derealization, but she isn't sure why because I don't have the social history to cause it. Everyone seems to say this is caused by anxiety, but that seems ridiculous because I don't get physical signs of anxiety like racing heart, short of breath, etc. plus it is constant.. It's nothing more or less than the way my head feels. I will try to explain...
Avatar m tn i need something for hypo mania and deppreshion..will the lamictal take care of them both?? at 25 mgs 1 aday 2 weeks then 50 mgs aday 2 weeks then 100 mgs aday till seen?????????
477048 tn?1215567947 Why couldn't you go back on the Effexor xr if it was so effective for you? I had thought that Lamictal was pricey, too. Does your Dr. feel that you have BP? Not sure why she prescribed this. Based upon your post, it seems like Effexor xr worked the best for you. I'd suggest that you let your Dr. know that you felt your best on the Effexor xr, and perhaps something can be worked out. Are there samples available that your doctor could provide to you to help you with the financial aspects?
Avatar f tn So I decided to ask different psyctrist for opinion, he said SSRI class is not working for me so he told to try different class because it work well for anxiety. He gave Lamictal, and told me that we r going to increase the dose slowly to avoid rash. Yesterday was my 1st dose of Lamictal and ended up in ER because I had allergic reaction and blister rash in mouth. ER told me to stop the med.
629808 tn?1222245070 Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.
980052 tn?1262967079 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
