Avatar n tn I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.
Avatar f tn combination of medications for someone who needs to suppress menstrual periods and is also taking Lexapro and Lamictal for Major Depression with Bipolar 2 ? My daughter tried taking Yasmin continually (not taking the "fake" week of pills for 3 months) but experiences almost daily cramping, hot and cold flashes, nausea. The gyne was stumped as to which BC pill would be best, as Yasmin is for the PMDD, but causes the side effects for her.
Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
Avatar f tn The old doc that I’m seeing again, that I’ve seen for years says I only have anxiety and depression. The new doc I saw for a few months says it’s mood disorder and that I was on the wrong type of meds. He was more thorough, giving me a questionnaire, going over family history, and wanting to take my blood to make sure med levels were right etc. But the old doc knows me longer. I don’t know who is right. Do I have anxiety/depression or is it mood disorder.
Avatar f tn ve had depression lingering most of my life and then major depression every once in awhile when something scary or major happens (double depression). Who's right?
Avatar f tn It came out in the newspaper a few weeks ago that anti-depressants like prozac are no more effective than a placebo at fighting depression. Previously withheld study results were released. The major pharmaceuticals have been scamming us all. Try St John's Wort. You can take up to 3000 mg a day, or so. Use a good sunscreen, since it can make your skin phytosensitive. You could also try Sam(e), but you have to get the right kind, I guess, from Natures Way.
644988 tn?1236364548 I know that from what I was informed by my psychiatrist (that would be reflected by the information on the medication website) a working dose of Lamictal is 150 mg. and it has to be titrated at a 25 mg. a week dose. I only found it effective at that dose as well and it took a higher dose than that to work in full.
Avatar f tn When I was in a hospital for post-partum depression the doctor I had tried me on Lamictal but I developed a rash on my arm. My meds were switched that same day after a dose of benadryl.
Avatar f tn Did anyone took Lamictal for anxiety and depression? Did it work, and how soon did it started working? Did anyone started feeling normal and had their old life back? Did anyone felt the itching, and how long it lasted? I am very worried, i need this med to be working for me soon because i going through very tough time in my relationship. 629808 tn?1222245070 Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.
980052 tn?1262967079 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
Avatar f tn I started Lamictal three weeks ago and am at 200mg. Started Latuda about four days ago at 80 mg. Serequel 100mg to sleep. Doc says I might have BP. Not sure if it's BP or deep depression. How long does it take for these meds to work? I'm on and off and teary and a bit sick. I'm not hopeless anymore, but still very scared. Does anyone have advice?
Avatar f tn HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....
925572 tn?1246540031 Now this forum is for BP, there are others for panic disorder, GAD, major depression and Schizoph.. now all you have to do is to ask whether anybody has a loss in concentration and memory. I bet all of them will agree. Besides if someone here asks: I have some itching in my neck and i take lithium, do you think folks that it might be from lithium. I bet everybody will agree and will start to feel itchings in the neck. This is called chronic worrying from the illness itself.
Avatar f tn m 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..
Avatar m tn Well, depression is a necessary criterion for BP II, so if that diagnosis is correct, you do have depression, but you have hypomania as well. The problem with getting the diagnosis is that it's almost entirely self report, since most people don't go to get help during hypomanic periods. Anxiety can come with bipolar, or be a separate thing. I recommend you go to psycheducation.org to read more about BP II.
Avatar m tn i need something for hypo mania and deppreshion..will the lamictal take care of them both?? at 25 mgs 1 aday 2 weeks then 50 mgs aday 2 weeks then 100 mgs aday till seen?????????
Avatar f tn gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
Avatar n tn I have been on and off an Effexor/Lamictal combination for a number of years - going off of it when I've lost health insurance or just can't afford it. This time around I've been on it about 1 1/2 years and due to paperwork issues, my new prescription didn't arrive per usual, so my psychiatrist had me immediately go from 600 mg effexor to 300 mg, and now to 150 mg in less then a week. I've also gone down from 450 mg of lamictal to 150 mg.
1134609 tn?1269272200 s not a whole lot of mood swings involved; just depression. I have read, that even after completely cessation of nicotine, major depression is very prevalent. So, I've been through a few ADs, but most of them were the next generation (Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, etc..) and they all increased my cycling.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist just prescribed Lemectal to me for major depression. She chose this med because I have experienced debilitating side effects with most SSRI and SSNI meds, and she said Lemectal has few reported side effects. I have taken St. John's Wort for 18 years to treat my chronic, low-grade depression, and when I stop taking it, I slide into a real funk and become easily angered and irritated by ordinary situations.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm a 30-year-old male. I was recently diagnosed with major depression and started taking generic Wellbutrin XL. Within a week of taking Wellbutrin 150 mg, I noticed changes in my libido, which continued to decrease. After two weeks I moved up to 300 mg, and my libido became almost nonexistent and I've been unable to have a complete erection. I've been on Wellbutrin for 4 weeks now and my sexual side effects have not subsided.
Avatar f tn I am on Carbamazeptine, that is for my Epilepsy and Depression. I found that it did not work for my Bipolar even though i was on 800mg and yes, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and kidney function. If you are concerned about it talk to your Psychiatrist about other options. I did! It is your body and you do have control over what goes into it.
Avatar n tn Thank you everyone, for your replies. I did see my dr. yesterday. I've had major depressive disorder for years, and have tried many ADs. I'm also on interferons for MS, and the interferons themselves can cause depression, even in someone without it. The depression makes me do less, and eat more. The dr. diagnosed me with bipolar, which is really surprising to me, as I don't have real manic episodes. She wants me to try Geodon.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.
Avatar f tn My mother is bipolar, and I was also diagnosed with major depresive disorder. I am also on limictal and has been the only medication that has worked for my depression. I just went through what they said was a manic episode. They have not diagnosed me with bipolar but instead diagnosed me as mood disorder nos. I am still not completely sure what that diagnosis means, but I am on additional medications now to treat the mania. I am 27. If you ever go manic I think that is when you will know.
