Avatar f tn Does Lamictal help with anxiety AND depression? I'm just not sure how anxiety and depression is a mood disorder. I thought you had to be manic to have a mood disorder. I really appreciate everyone's help!
Avatar m tn Hello, I've been experiencing severe bouts of depression on and off with horrible anxiety since I was about 14 years old. I'm now 21 and I was diagnosed as bipolar II last year and since then I've been experimenting with different medications with my psychiatrist to help find the best possible treatment. I tried lamictal for a while but it didn't work for me and I think it made my anxiety worse.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar f tn However, I have felt that the depression, change in mood, higher anxiety, and confusion has started slowly but is here. Can my meds. stop working or helping me after a period of time?
Avatar n tn It has no affinity for anxiety, but it can help with depression. Lamictal is not approved to treat anxiety disorders, only for epilepsy and manic depression. Nortriptyline is a secondary amine antidepressant of the tricyclic class. It increases the turn-over of Norepinephrine in the central nervous system. It also produces alpha-1 blockade, and in this respect, could dull an exaggerated "fight or flight" response.
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar m tn I saw my P-doc today and he said he has seen Lamictal work very well for this Soft or Bi-polar ll type of agitated anxiety based depression. He's trying me on that, slow at first. Correct you are; No doubt I will have to keep taking my AD medication. I get way too low without it. This damn ultra high anxiety needs to get in check though. Hoping Lamictal will level me out a bit. My AD is Mertazapine.
333664 tn?1220800790 s made depression worse. Currently take lamictal for depression and klonopin for anxiety/panic disorder. Lexepro started panic attacks and still have them one year later. I still have spotty panic attacks and depression with the use of said drugs. Upped the dose of lamictal from 25 to 50 mg. a day and now have insomnia with depression. Klonopin seems to work well for anxiety but not the panic attacks. Still waiting for a depression med that works. By the way .5mg klonopin mornings and evenings.
Avatar m tn It was under control with bupropion and lamictal but I still did not feel like the depression was lifted. doc suggested going off of bupropion and switch to paxil. It has been 11 days. still taking the bupropion 150 and lamictal 100 but have had to start taking a lot more klonopin because to the rise in anxiety and I don't like taking this.
Avatar f tn I have anxiety, obsessive worry (ruminating over and over), social anxiety, depression, and get emotional (cry or get angry). So my lifelong doc says I have anxiety/depression and had me on Celexa. I've already tried a number of other SSRI's. The Celexa helps me alot with depression, social anxiety, and obsessive worry. But it makes me very tired, oversleep, and sexual side effects, and it gives me some physical feelings of anxiety in my chest.
Avatar f tn m 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..
874521 tn?1424116797 s depression which is responsible for the acknowledged 20% mortality in BP whether in BP1 or 2 especially the latter very pronounced. Now lamictal is good for depression so is seroquel which is often used as a monotherapy because it has an antidepressant effect. In mania seroquel is best, don't say lithium or tegretol, remember that in lithium NOT only drink a lot of water but plenty of water with flush it out, too cumbersome. Seroquel is best.
Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
Avatar m tn have tried lithium but it did not work for me. am now on lamictal and up to100 with no effect yet. will keep trying though. talk to your pdoc about what meds might suit you.
739988 tn?1386672969 I mean like I take a med for depression, a med for mania, is there one for anxiety? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn It came out in the newspaper a few weeks ago that anti-depressants like prozac are no more effective than a placebo at fighting depression. Previously withheld study results were released. The major pharmaceuticals have been scamming us all. Try St John's Wort. You can take up to 3000 mg a day, or so. Use a good sunscreen, since it can make your skin phytosensitive. You could also try Sam(e), but you have to get the right kind, I guess, from Natures Way.
925572 tn?1246540031 however I must comment that since being on lamictal(lamotrigine)...I DO NOT suffer from any anxiety or depression..therefore the memory loss cannot be attributed to this...the memory/spelling/word finding issues have only started this last year and since I BEGAN using this medication. I did not think of there being a connection UNTIL I read the post from Malak.
Avatar f tn [citation needed] Lamotrigine has been studied as an adjunctive therapy for treatment of refractory unipolar depression, attaining efficacy on the secondary metric for treatment outcomes (Clinical Global Impressions), but not the primary metrics (Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression).
574118 tn?1305135284 But a good mood stabilizer treats both mania and depression. Sometimes two mood stabilizers are neccessary (including for me in the past). As for question 1 Lamictal does have anti-depressent properties for myself when I used it included. As for question 2 I was taken off Lamictal because it had worsened mania but that was at 325 mg. and also after it worked many years without worsening mania and it was quite helpful. Give it a chance As for question 3 Anafranil is an SSRI anti-depressent.
Avatar f tn I was feeling panic, anxiety, depression, overall feelings of doom. My pdoc told me that he thought I was having bad side effects from the Geodon, so now I am off of it. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 400mg per day (for bipolar 1). I still feel confused, sedated, and overall just bad. I feel like I have the flu almost. This has gone on for months and I can't seem to shake it.
980052 tn?1262967079 Lamictal caused mental dulling and word finding issues for me.
Avatar f tn When I was in a hospital for post-partum depression the doctor I had tried me on Lamictal but I developed a rash on my arm. My meds were switched that same day after a dose of benadryl.
Avatar f tn I have been to Dr. A for years and have taken SSRI's on and off. The best was Celexa and did great on it for a year. It just made me have trouble waking up and made me late to work every morning. Then I moved and went to a new psychiatrist, Dr. H, who knows me less but was more thorough like taking blood and mouth swab test, etc. He seems to think I have a mood disorder (bipolar spectrum) on the the depressive side and thinks Mood Stabilizers like Lamictal would be better for me.
997928 tn?1252444237 I've been taking Lamictal for about 3 months, but can't stand the side effects anymore! I feel like I traded anxiety for ADD. I can't focus, have short-term memory loss, speak slowly, and have an exceding amount of mucus in my throat. I was taking 300mg. Now I'm at 225mg. It has helped to take down the dose, but it's still very annoying! I take it with 300mg of Effexor XR which I have been taking for several years.
