Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.

So I decided to ask different psyctrist for opinion, he said SSRI class is not working for me so he told to try different class because it work well for anxiety. He gave Lamictal, and told me that we r going to increase the dose slowly to avoid rash. Yesterday was my 1st dose of Lamictal and ended up in ER because I had allergic reaction and blister rash in mouth. ER told me to stop the med.

I also want to add that I'm very glad that lamictal helps you. I felt lamictal helped me for years when I was really bad off. I have been off of it for two months now and have had no problems. Did you know that studies have found that bipolar disorder can actually lessen/disappear after the age of 25? I'm 29 now, and not even sure that I have it anymore. It certainly hasn't seemed like it for 3-4 years now.

I took a higher dosage before and they put me to sleep for over 24 plus hours. I had to practically beg them for a lower dosage. Its just that I dont want anything to happen to my family and I cant do anything because I am knock out.

I was put on lamictal for mania because I cannot take any of the traditional mania meds. Lamictal worked for me but I had side effects and had to stop it. Your dr is just following new medication lists.

Do you mean that is your starting dosage? You have to ramp up Lamictal dosage slow. I am at 200Mgs of Lamictal a day and it took me 2 months to reach that effective dosage.

have tried lithium but it did not work for me. am now on lamictal and up to100 with no effect yet. will keep trying though. talk to your pdoc about what meds might suit you.

I was diagnosed as Bipolar II after having been treated marginally for social anxiety and depression for 15 years. I withdrew from Paxil. I am slowly weaning from Klonopine while adding Lamictal. My beginning dose for one week was 25mg. This week, I am on 50mg. My racing thoughts have diminished as have confusion and rapid speech. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I am too happy. I worry that I am having mania. I have trouble controlling my laughter in public.

my son is taking 200 mg of lamictal in the morning and 200mg of lamictal in the everning (400mg daily) for seizure control. he has been on lamictal for approximately 3 years and has been a very successful drug. Just recently he went to the family doctor for routine blood work and they called the other day to say his lamictal level was 9.5. They say a normal level is 1 to 4. Should we be concerned about this number? What should we do? Our neurologist is in Colorado and is a 3.5 hour drive.

Well olanzapine, which I was on before I was diagnosed too, is actually an antipychotic and did cause a ton of weight gain for me too. I don't know about lamictal but I just wanted to say its not a main bipolar medication, so you have a lot of other options. Why not do some of your own research and find a list of medication that you think might help you, then present that to your doctor.

I saw my P-doc today and he said he has seen Lamictal work very well for this Soft or Bi-polar ll type of agitated anxiety based depression. He's trying me on that, slow at first. Correct you are; No doubt I will have to keep taking my AD medication. I get way too low without it. This damn ultra high anxiety needs to get in check though. Hoping Lamictal will level me out a bit. My AD is Mertazapine.

anyways, after all the side effects, i went back up to 20mg of Paxil. and down to a 25mg and a half of a 25mg Lamictal for a week, then to just a 25mg for a week, today is my first day on just one half of a 25mg. my psychiatrist said that i could just stop after the week of the 25mg, but i was afraid i'd have a seizure. she said that because i take a Klonopin every day, which is anti-seizure, that it would be enough to protect me..but i just want to be sure.

No sleepiness, no weight gain, ( that I can attribute to my meds anyway..ahem) and no englargement of the gums. I take 200mg of Lamictal. Like 007Bunny, I had to have my dosage increased, in order to control both depression and hypomania, after being taken off Zoloft. I did have a small rash, which I didn't mention to my doctor. I should have, due to the risk of Stevens-Johnson syndrome associated with Lamictal. It went away after a month or two, and never reappeared after that. I was up to 450 of Wellbutrin a day, but have now been lowered to 300mg. I am unsure how much my Zoloft dosage is.

Actually I eventually had to be transferred off Lamictal for that very reason although it was quite effective for close to 10 years.. From what my psychopharmcologist said (this could be verified by going to the medication website) "Lamictal can worsen mania at higher levels". That doesn't sound like that is what the cause is from what you are describing as it also has to be at a therapeutic dose to work. And during pregnancy any aspect of bipolar can worsen.
